15 Wrestlers in Need of Better Finishers

FinisherBannerThere was a night recently — I can’t recall which show, or even which match it was, but something hit me. I watched someone finish a match, and I looked on in bewilderment.

“THAT?!? That was a finisher?!?” I thought to myself. And it got my thought process rolling, that for every amazing or electric finisher, there are bound to be some duds. So here are a few wrestlers that I think are in desperate need of either a completely new finisher, or at the very least, some refinements to their finisher.

As athletic as this Women’s Division competitor is made out to be, she deserves a much better finisher than what amounts to slamming her butt into her opponent’s face. Give her something coming off the top rope perhaps. Or a nasty submission maneuver. But a butt in the face? Not here.

So I see American Alpha on the list and no Ambrose?

Stf respectable? It is so bad, and at least it was powerful before, because he beat people with it, but now it would surprise me a lot to see AJ tap to it.
The whole idea of a finisher is kinda stupid, but needed. When The Undertaker has time to go Last Ride, why not just do the old Tompstone (very believeable finisher might I add) which is more powerful than a drop on the back.

The spear may not look like much but it is effective and as much as I like the butterfly ddt, ambrose needs a new finish

The finisher and the fact that they book him as a lunatic are the main reasons I hate to watch Ambrose.

I would easily trade the Spear for the Butterfly DDT in this list.

Remember WWECW Big Show had that sick Cobra Clutch backbreaker? Sometimes he would toss them around a bit? He could definitely use it again!

  • Bite Me You Loser

It’s really hard to come up with a unique finisher these days. Now WWE tends to nerf moves due to injury fears.

Yes, both The Ascension and The Shining Stars are ripping off Total Elimination, as did The Basham Brothers before them (they called it the Ball and Gag) but did you know the Eliminators ripped off the move from another great tag team themselves? That’s right the Eliminators weren’t the first to use Total Elimination. I’m going to drop some wrestling history on you now. Jim Cornette’s Midnight Express of “Loverboy” Dennis Condrey and “Beautiful” Bobby Eaton were using Total Elimination (which The Express called the Double Goozle) as one of their multiple finishers (they also used the Veg-o-matic and the Rocket Launcher) more than a decade before the letters ECW entered the wrestling lexicon. You can see the Double Goozle at the end of this match from 1985: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HQGNWmCHX4 .
