2016 Royal Rumble: Could-Would-Should

WWE
Feels like it’s been a long time since we did one of these, but in any case, it is time for the first Could-Would-Should predictions of 2016. For this round, we are looking at the lineup for Sunday’s Royal Rumble.

Pre-show Fatal Fourway

How it could go:

At the risk of sounding cynical, does anyone care? This one seems like an odd one to get two guys into the Rumble. And it also feels like this one could have…should have…been done on RAW. But any one of these teams could move on, though a couple make more sense than the rest.

How it should go:

Away, quickly and quietly. I will admit it, I don’t always watch the pre-show. Matches like this? They will make sure that trend continues. Beyond that, I have a hunch Mark Henry and Jack Swagger win this one, though the Dudleys wouldn’t be a bad choice either.

How I wish it would go:

This is one I frankly don’t care about enough to have a wish. Though it is nice to see Sandow on a PPV card, even if it is the pre-show.

Divas Championship Match

How it could go:

Ric gets involved, causing Becky to be distracted and Charlotte capitalizes. Dirtiest players in the game retain.

How it should go:

I want this to be a Divas showcase. Both women involved are talented enough that this one deserves 10 or 12 minutes at least-and, arguably, does not need Ric.

How I wish it would go:

I want to see Becky win this one. I don’t think she will, but I would like to see that. She’s showing off well, and I think giving her a run with the title would be worthwhile. If she flops, or doesn’t gain the traction as hoped, she drops it again either at Fastlane or ‘Mania.

Last Man Standing Match

How it could go:

These guys seem to have a genuine animosity for one another. It’s probably just a work, but regardless, it makes for a compelling story. This could go 20 minutes and people would likely be begging for more. Calling it now, this ought to be a strong contender for match of the night.

How it should go:

This one is hard to figure. I didn’t expect Owens to drop the strap when he did, even though Ambrose was certainly worthy of the title. I can easily make a case for each man to walk out as champion-and could make a case that whomever leaves this match without a belt, could easily find himself in the final four of the Rumble itself.

How I wish it would go:

Match of the night, that is all. Not asking too much, am I?

US Title Match

How it could go:

Well, judging on their past encounters, this one could go either way. Really. I honestly didn’t expect Kalisto to win the belt last week, much less drop it back to Del Rio in the same week. So, it’s a coin flip here.

How it should go:

These two work contrasting styles to a degree. Both are technically capable wrestlers, but Del Rio in this instance is the powerhouse to Kalisto’s speedy, high flying style. If there is a match on the card that should challenge Owens and Ambrose for match of the night, it should be this one.

How I wish it would go:

As good as their last two tilts, though I would like to see this one happen without any interference. That’s not too much to ask, is it? Yes, I know Del Rio is a heel, but that doesn’t mean he has to use heel tactics to win constantly.

Tag Team Title Match

How it could go:

Someone could decide that New Day just isn’t over anymore (they’d be wrong, and considered insane), and The Usos could leave as champions.

How it should go:

I don’t particularly like New Day, but they do get reactions, and that matters a lot. So I doubt they drop the belts now. Or to The Usos. I really thought Bubba Ray and Devon would get their coveted 10th reign, so perhaps that happens at WrestleMania. But no change here.

How I wish it would go:

Just looking for a good strong tag team match. Hopefully one that is trombone free, but I have a feeling Xavier will have something new for us.

Royal Rumble

How it could go:

Roman could run the table, eliminate a ton of Superstars, last longer in the Rumble than anyone, ever, and retain his title. And probably be over less by the end of the night than he is now.

How it should go:

I get it, babyfaces have been overcoming insurmountable odds in this business for a long, long time. I don’t think any set of odds has truly been as daunting, so it would be pretty hard to imagine Roman still champion at the end of the show. And, in fact, I don’t think he should be.

How I wish it would go:

I’ve made my predictions for this one elsewhere. I am expecting a final four of Lesnar, Reigns, Wyatt and Del Rio–though I am not really certain it has to be ADR. I expect a screwy ending where someone who was already eliminated pulls Reigns out, giving the title to Brock. It would work, especially if WWE wants to get fans more sympathetic to Roman. Image a night where he broke the record for time in a Rumble, and his own record for eliminations. And he lost. Beyond that, I want some strong surprises, returns or debuts. This Rumble HAS to be better than last year.

Why do I have a feeling Matt Hardy is going to be in the Rumble?

      Lol he’s in TNA

        As their Champion no less!

The rate WWE is signing TNA guys at the minute who knows. Plus Dixie cannot afford to turn down any buyout amount atm.

        • Joseph Lisnow

instead of buying tna as a whole (like with WCW), Vince is picking their top talent. i like his style (no pun intended).

Apart from AA returned to ring of honor in July last year and has had nothing to do with TNA for about 6 months

Joe’s just confused because he did one taping that TNA used for the title series because he’s clueless about anything non-wwe…

I’m expecting to see either Steamboat or Sting to turn up to be in Becky’s corner somehow
