Ask WNZ: Does Daniel Bryan Fade Away?

WWE Championship
With his surprise, but somewhat anticipated retirement, here’s one to ponder. Will Daniel Bryan stay involved in WWE in some capacity? Or will he fade away, outside of some random appearances.

Dorathy Gass:

I do not see Daniel Bryan ‘fading’ away from the WWE picture anytime soon; especially when he has approximately three years left on his contract.

They’ll still use him for media appearances, speaking engagements, and potentially onscreen roles for television programming, pay-per-views, etc. There was even word he might become an NXT coach. Whether he does this, or  gets a show on the Network, or does things backstage; well that’s up to Danielson himself in the end. Despite the fact that he can’t wrestle anymore, thanks to the career he built around pro wrestling, I believe the sky’s the limit for him. His ‘underdog’s climb to the top’ story in itself can be used as a platform for motivational speaking; and DB is an incredible speaker, that is able to truly captivate his audience, use humor during appropriate times, and deliver an eloquent speech; something fans were blown away by during his 2015 HOF speech, when he inducted Connor “The Crusher” Michalek, and his recent retirement speech on RAW.

All in all, DB is highly profitable for the WWE; and one can see this popularity and main stream appeal from his retirement announcement that blew up Twitter, other social media sites, and main stream media recently. WWE needs to find a role for him within the company that will help secure a long term future for him, because once that contract ends; who knows where DB move onto.

John Deegan:

I actually like the idea of fading away. And it’s not because I don’t like the guy.

I remember early on, people were asking him if he’d do something like guest announce while he was out, and he basically said if he couldn’t wrestle, it was too hard to be around, so he was staying away. So part of me wonders, now that he’s never getting back to wrestling, will it still be so hard that he just stays away?

I can see him doing the random, few-times-a-year guest appearance. I can see him hanging around the Hall of Fame show, and probably WrestleManias too. But outside of those-maybe 10 appearances at most-I think he fades away. I think he truly wants to move into the next chapter of his life, and it will be harder if he doesn’t let go of his former career.

Joseph Lisnow:

Daniel Bryan loves to wrestle and now that option seems to be gone. I feel Bryan would be open to a project with the company, but working for the WWE and not being able to get in the ring to perform could be too much (at least for now). It’s been a long two years for Bryan. He started the Yes! Movement, which helped push him into the main event of WrestleMania XXX and the WWE Championship. The title was stripped from Bryan and he fought back from injury the following year to capture the IC Championship. Same thing happened and Bryan had to be stripped of another title. Bryan was never able to enjoy his title reigns. Looking at Bryan’s age and popularity, there’s no doubt he will be missed each week. If Bryan wants a family, here’s the right time. For the first time since he was about 18 years old, Bryan doesn’t have to focus on wrestling and the difficult touring schedule. Bryan can finally look forward to life away from wrestling, which might be easier if he disappears for a few months to recollect his thoughts.

    • El Marichachi

Never be as obscure as a fat 40 + year old Virgin posing as a model. Tell Your mom that her last check bounced so I only accept cash now.

      • Lisa

          • Edynol

            Your memory is flawed.

          • Lisa

            Still kicking your a**.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

With all that kicking I bet youre real outta breath aren’t ya Albert?

          • Lisa

Shut up, you fool. And by the way, the fact that I’m doing very well in my modeling career doesn’t mean I can’t post comments on this site. I’ve been a wrestling fan since I was an infant and no success in life will take away my passion for wrestling.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

Pretty sure you weren’t a fan of anything as an infant other than your moms teet…hmmm…guess nothing has changed has it?

          • Lisa

I’m an independent, financially stable young woman.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

Sweet. I tell you at the end of all of these that im just joking,I don’t dislike you, youre just kinda fun to bounce off. In all honesty i feel like this has run its course, and its getting kinda boring.

          • Lisa

If you’re bored I have a suggestion for ya: get outta here.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

            Lisa,turn it off.

        • Lisa

Your foolishness never ceases to amaze me.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

Good,I’m glad I can help with the expansion of things that amaze you;now do us all a favor, pull a Shining and go find a maze to get lost in.

          • Lisa

Your dad should have used a condom.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

Once again Lisa wins most creative and original comeback award…Lisa is a good name,in the same way caitlyn is for Bruce. I think we should have a competition to see who can guess your real name 1st…I’m going with Charles…

          • Lisa

Again proving how shallow minded you are.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

That may be the FUNNIEST thing you’ve said yet, difference is i have made it VERY clear that im just goofing around. I can turn my “gimmick” off,you can’t. Youre destined to be an annoying little gnat who likes to get on websites most likely not just this one,and pretend to be something you aren’t. Nobody believes the nonsense you put out,if you were truly a model,I really doubt you’d be on here antagonizing a bunch of people for the hell of it. We all know youre a dude, and you have some sort of superiority complex that you have to try and act like youre so much smarter and above everyone else…get real…youre probably a 16 year old overweight kid, that’s never had a kiss…orr youre an overweight 45 yearold who kicks it in his mommy’s basement and also has never had his first kiss.. But I’ll stop there as im sure you have a very heavy photoshop to do of you hanging out with roman reigns or John cena…

          • Lisa

It’s good that you admit you’re fooling around. Well, I have no time for jokers and clowns. I’m 100% real – no gimmicks, no BS.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

I said I could turn it off whenever I wanted, as I have. You on the other hand, cannot.

          • Lisa

I cant run away from who I am. I’m not into wearing other people’s masks.

          • HOAK KOGAAN

            What’s majora without a mask?

          • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??

            Please don’t be mean Lisa.

      • Lisa

        F___ off.

  • PlanoStu

If his wife retires, then stay home and be the best dad. If not, go be a manager or work in NXT

  • Edynol

I am hoping he won’t fade away, but I can’t say for certain that he won’t. It sucks to say, as I am one of his biggest fans, but once someone is done wrestling, people tend to stop thinking about them unless they are on TV. Exception are people like Piper, Hogan, Austin, etc. People who were on top for a long time. Bryan was loved by many, but he was only on top for a few years. He’s definitely a HOFer, but he’ll be remembered more like Edge, Bret Hart, Ultimate Warrior, etc. A great wrestler loved by almost everyone, but never “the guy”. When Hogan left for WCW, ratings dropped big time. When Piper quit, ratings dropped significantly. When Austin retired, ratings dropped hugely until came back as co GM with Bischoff. I mean, Not even the Rock or HBK leaving affected ratings all that much.

DB hasn’t had that kind of affect. We haven’t seen a huge ratings drop since he’s been out. But for me, I still have hope his retirement isn’t permanent. With new medical technology coming out pretty frequently, maybe there will come a way to treat brain injuries so he can come back someday. It’s not likely, but it’s possible. I mean, we can make blind people see and deaf people hear now. That was “impossible” a few years ago. So who knows?
