If the spoilers are true, then yes. Is it the way I’d book the match? Probably not. I’ve already written about this, but to be honest, I don’t think the Goldberg versus Lesnar program needs the Universal title – but – the JeriKO feud may. I also think that Kevin Owens has done a phenomenal job as champion as of late and deserves to walk into Wrestelmania 33 holding that gold. But, that’s just my opinion.
So, yes, Goldberg will probably win, but if I had my way, he wouldn’t!
On one hand, I think he can and will. And part of me thinks it would be awesome.
But, then logic kicks in, and I think this could be a bad idea. Like, a really bad idea.
Why bad? Well, let’s see. Goldberg is a part-timer. Lesnar? Yeah, he’s a part-timer too. So, how on Earth is it really appealing to see one part-time guy challenge another part-time guy, to see who would hold the title and show up only on select shows? It isn’t. That, and Goldberg/Lesnar is a draw (in theory) regardless of titles. So, adding a belt isn’t needed.
For me, they let Goldberg win. But, at WM33, we get a Money In The Bank Ladder match, or some other match with a stipulation that allows someone to challenge the winner then and there. And so, while Goldberg or Lesnar could win the match and be champ, neither would leave Orlando as champion.
It seems likely Goldberg will gain the title. Goldberg vs. Brock Lesnar and Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho seem like almost locks for WrestleMania. My issue, is the Goldberg-Lesanr feud doesn’t need the title. Here are two part-time wrestlers who as over as possible. Owens has done a wonderful job being champion after WWE needed to redo plans due to Finn Balor’s injury. He deserves to walk into WrestleMania with the title.
Watching how Owens interacts with fans on TV and social media, he’s probably none too happy about his title reign coming to an ended by Goldberg. I have a feeling Goldberg getting the title will be looked at as one of the major mistakes by WWE during the build for WrestleMania 33.
