Brand Extension Needs More Championships

WWE Championship
Don’t get me wrong, I am quite excited with what is going on within the WWE right. Brand extension means, more talent flooding into the organization, a wider pool, more incredible matches, and a lot of surprises at every corner. Which means more focus on each show (RAW, SmackDown, and even NXT), targeted storylines, and much more opportunities across the board for WWE talent.

Still, I worry about some of my favorites. Especially those who have so much potential, and seem to climbing up that WWE ladder, into the main event picture; possibly the title race picture. But with only one major WWE title, and two secondary ones, across a platform of two shows, how is a superstar going to really climb up that ladder of success? Focusing on the male talent, superstars like Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Cesaro, and even Baron Corbin are incredible, and fighting for their spot in the main event scene, as well as chance for a shot at the title, potentially to main event Wrestlemania someday. But how can there even be that type of potential, with such an increase of talent (almost double), with everyone vying for one major title?

And sure, there had been a tease this Monday Night, with the RAW announce team dropping the words ‘World Heavyweight’ in WWE Championship, that set a flood of speculation on Twitter and Facebook. But is another top-tier title the solution. In many ways, the World Heavyweight Championship, back in the day, seemed to lack luster, when compared to the WWE title.

On the one hand, I love the idea of there being one WWE Champion: one top guy, who gets the privilege of being on both brands, which truly makes the WWE Champion something special. It also then takes away from any idea, that a secondary World Heavyweight Championship is any less prestigious, and if the goal is to elevate SmackDown, then having the WWE Champ on both brands, will help to do so.

And this is truly where Creative steps in. Creating storylines where gold doesn’t have to be the focal point of a program. In fact, don’t the greatest feuds stem from personal, or real-life situations?

So, yes, I’m torn, but I guess what I’m suggesting, is an increase in mid-card, and upper-mid card championships. Bring back the European title, the Television title; and heighten the prestige on the Intercontinental title, and United States Championship a notch. There is still a holy grail for competitors to attain, but yet there is also an opportunity for superstars within the perspective brands to taste gold.

WNZ fans, what do you think? Should the WWE add another high-tier World Championship belt into the mix, or add more mid-card belts? Maybe no belts need to be added, or perhaps ‘all of the above’. Let me know your thoughts, by commenting below!

I’m so against co-op world titles…even if Smackdown does surpasses Raw in ratings after the draft its still the B show…so ur gonna have a B Top Champion…but its gonna happen and to me the only titles they need to add are the ones that I pitched a couple of times…the RAW Championship and the SMACKDOWN Championship (exclusive TV titles)…I think these titles would really get talent over and actually will not get talent lost in the shuffle

Your negativity is way to high you need to CUT IT

lol stop confusing logic with negativity and you wanna be like me? I held that B+ championship u haven’t lol

        • T-Rock (#TeamHollywood)

Again who follows logic in the wwe and T-Rock has held many titles then you have in a life time
*Crowd chants T-ROCK T-ROCK T-ROCK T-ROCK T-ROCK* See the fact of the matter is this that the brand split needs to happen or get rid of smackdown ecw nxt all together T-Rock is tired of seeing Smackdown being the raw rerun show, T-Rock is tired of seeing the same people in the number one contender spot because theirs only one world championship, hell T-Rock is tired of seeing the world strongest man doing nothing in his career because he can’t get any screen time. When all thats said and when all the dust has settle as Drowen would say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE so get ready because T-Rock and the millions *CROWD AND MILLIONS* of T-Rock fans are getting ready to see new people being in the main event, getting ready to see solo ppvs for the separate brands, and lastly see T-Rock show be back the A show IF YOU HEARRRRRRRRR WHAT T-ROCK IS TYPING *Raises the hollywood eyebrows and throws the mic*

Having another title is pointless. The IC Title picture has gotten better over the years. They haven’t put that much meaning on the US Title picture over the years (that’s something they have to work on for the brand split) with the exception of John Cena’s US Title reign last year. We don’t know how many people WWE are actually going to bring back for the draft so instead of adding another title, how about they find ways to improve and develop some of the mid carders that they have.

Cruiserweight title all I want to see come back

I agree somewhat but my problem is that it pigeon holes the character and whatever reality is to be suspended now say when Kalisto was beating Ryback etc? would be that much more difficult.remember the show isn’t geared to us it’s to the masses who aren’t as invested in the if they show guys who are small compete vs each other I’m afraid it they branched out to the big boys the majority won’t buy it..without it they’ve been brainwashed to buy the fact that the small guy wins

  • jcice13

I said long ago that there should be a TV title.after all it’s a TV show and they can dust off the old NWA or WCW one and use that storyline as lineage

I know I probably been pushing this hard on WNZ but I want to see it too lol but instead of those classic titles…since its the “NEW ERA” (I’m still looking for the “New” in this era lol) bring in NEW EXCLUSIVE TV titles…Raw Championship & SD! championship
But the stipulation is that the champ has hold for specific amount of time to challenge for either secondary title or top title
Maybe like 60 days – Secondary
Maybe like 100 days – Top Titles

He can only challenge for a title after announcing cash in

He can challenge on Show/PPVs/Network Specials

The TV titles are exclusively defended on the shows

After vacancy the new champion will be determined by tournaments NOT BATTLE ROYALS

If you want to have the brands completely separate, you need to operate them as separate promotions. That was the problem before with the brand split. It started to become too muddled together. In order for SmackDown and Raw to be seen as equals, they need separate but equal World Titles, Secondary titles, Tag titles, Women’s titles. Or make the tag titles exclusive to one brand, and the Women’s Division exclusive to the other. But definitely have to have no cross over to build interest in each, and that would make the supercard shows, that much more special.
