Can A Face Turn Save The Wyatts’ Burial At Wrestlemania 32?

Wyatt Family
I expected big things for The Wyatt Family at Wrestlemania 32, despite the fact that they weren’t officially booked within WWE’s largest pay-per-view (PPV) of the year, and I was incredibly disappointed. Sure, I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I thought the promo segment between The Wyatts, The Rock, and a surprise appearance from John Cena wasn’t entertaining: I just wish the WWE had gone with another faction … any faction … other than the Wyatts.

And while I was entertained, I was disappointed.

It’s hard for me to disagree with good ol’ J.R., especially since he has lived and breathed the business (for much longer than I have), and I am simply a spectator: but I do disagree with him, wholeheartedly. The Wrestlemania 32 promo with “The Great One”, and the “Cenation Leader” not only hurt the Wyatts, but it buried them. It mocked them, and their evil and cult-like ways. It made them look inferior, and the six-second match The Rock had against Erik Rowan demolished Rowan’s credibility as a wrestler; all in the name of continuing to make The Rock look strong, yet also not chance an injury on the Hollywood superstar. There was no need for The Rock to pin Rowan in that fashion, or even have a match at WM 32; no one was expecting it, the WWE Universe is fully aware that thanks his film career and the studios he has to report to, he can no longer risk getting injured in match – even for Wrestlemania. It not only discredited Rowan, in my opinion, it was just plain lame for The Rock as well. And I don’t want anyone to think that I’m putting down Dwayne, or John Cena for that matter. I’m a huge fan of both men, and I’m not even sure it was their call to make, really. I understand the that there was a need for The Rock to have a huge role at WM 32; something more than just announcing the record-breaking crowd. He needed to get a little physical, without getting too physical; after all, the man had just spent months on social media hyping up the fact that he would be at WWE’s flagship event. While I understood the need to include John Cena at WM (while too, not having him in a match, as he is not fully cleared); it truly did not have to be something that was executed at the expense of the Wyatts. Haven’t they helped build up enough talents, including part-timers? How would I have booked it? I probably would have either chosen another faction (i.e. The Social Outcasts). If it had to be a promo with The Wyatts (reports are coming out that The Rock requested to work with the stable) perhaps it could’ve simply been a promo, with no ‘blink-of-an-eye’ match; where also Bray Wyatt escaped the ring before the beat down, once John hit the ramp; leaving Rowan and Strowman to their own devices. Still, burials can be forgotten or pushed aside, IF a push begins to unravel, and I am hoping that the post-Mania RAW was an indication of greater things.

Okay J.R., perhaps this is something we can agree on.

Yes, creatively speaking, The Wyatts have had a rough spot as of late, simply because of the way they have been booked. They do have a majority of the fans in their corner, which is a good thing; but if they continue to be booked in a way where faces can mock them and undermine their superiority – well then, it just seems futile to even continue with these characters. Bray’s promos are incredible; his cryptic messaging sends chills and gives goosebumps, however, even I, as a fan of his, tend to roll my eyes now and again, because the WWE has failed to properly book him to back up what he is saying. It just seems redundant, and erodes at the credibility of his character and the stable.

Alas, a tease of a face turn, could turn things around for Bray, and his followers. One person on social media put it best: The Wyatts have already attacked all the main faces within the company, perhaps a turn was evident. And I’m hoping this turn means that there will be a push that goes along with it as well: a push towards the main event picture, bookings within PPV matches, and maybe a title race program. What if, Reigns was to turn heel, as the Wyatts turn babyface? What if, The Wyatts were to attack The Authority? What if the idea for turning Bray face, is WWE’s hope that they can experience another organic movement with the Wyatts that they experienced with Daniel Bryan? The ONLY good thing to come out of the WM 32 promo, was The Rock’s oh-so-subtle observation of the fact that the stable did light up the AT&T Stadium, and he was spot on: 101, 673 hands, all simultaneously lifting up their lightened phones, in solidarity, paying homage to Bray and his family of followers, as they entered the Wrestlemania 32 ring.

Could this build up mean something bigger for the Wyatts? Could we be ushering in the Wyatt Era come Wrestlemania 33?

I’m hoping so. As much as the Wyatts were buried at WM 32, the redemption that was felt on the post-Mania edition of RAW was perfect timing to help erase that memory in the mind of fans, and have everyone realize the true value that Bray, as well as Strowman and Rowan (not to forget an injured Luke Harper) have on the company, and the potential to have them truly dominant, and win over the WWE Universe.

WNZ fans, what are your thoughts on The Wyatt family, their WM 32 moment, and a tease of a future face turn?

The Wyatts need to start taking out everyone and forget the endless need for people to be either a face or a heel, just let them be them without a pointless label

I think it was a great rub for Bray to have that promo with the Rock. I do agree that Bray has been booked horribly and that he should be the next Face of Fear and not be a punchline. A face turn could work by not having the family acknowledge they’re faces and destroy mostly everyone. They can feud with the LON and then break up that group and then move onto New Day or Social Outcasts until Balor Club comes to fruition. But that’s my thoughts. I agree with most of your post.

all it would take is just a couple of weeks for the family to get rolling again and really putting people out,,heel/face? doesn’t matter, just book them the way they should and it will take care of itself..this isn’t brain surgery people, just proper story telling and writing…at least they’re doing jobs for top notch big guys and not a midget like Ryberg had to lose to.and even with that lose they can make him rise again…so putting the Wyatts over would be a snap..

No way we’re they buried. They’re heels right. So they’re getting beat on by the two top faces in the company. So what, it’s mania it happens. Wyatts were not buried. Maybe Rowen was, but that’s it.
