Heel Seth Rollins, Is The Best Seth Rollins

WWE World Heavyweight title
Still reeling from Extreme Rules and the May 23rd edition of Monday Night RAW; it’s clear, Seth Rollins is back, with his eyes are firmly set on recapturing the WWE World Heavyweight Title (a title he never really lost).

As the crowd cheered Rollins during the closing of the pay-per-view (PPV), and then once again, as he opened RAW, the WWE Universe was undoubtedly happy to see Rollins return; so naturally one would think he might return as face, especially with the huge reaction fans had when he got injured, and the outpouring of well wishes on social media, as Rollins worked hard to get better, and re-enter in-ring competition.

Meh, the brass decided to keep him heel.

At first, I was a little disappointed, watching his speech, as he pointed out the distain some within the WWE Universe had towards him, prior to his injury. All I could think was, “Man, the WWE higher ups will go to any lengths to continue to build up Roman, keep him face, and hold back Rollins.”

Still, as Seth went on and on, and the cheers quickly turned to boos, I was reminded of just why I love Seth Rollins so much. He’s a phenomenal heel. He reminds me of a young Ric Flair in many ways. And who better to help elevate Roman Reigns? Send in the heel; send in the man who can work up the fans enough, so that when Reigns comes in, (perhaps) people will be compelled to cheer, just because the heel is being taken down.

And keeping Rollins a heel is by no means ‘holding him back’; it’s a continuation of a fantastic evolution within his persona. Not to mention the fact the WWE needs a strong, main event heel; and one that is there full time. Chris Jericho has been playing a strong heel character since his turn, just prior to Wrestlemania, and while he can hold his own (still) in a main event match, his time in the title picture race has past. Kevin Owens is honing his heel status, and he’s right up there with Seth as one of the best currently on the roster, however he seems to be lingering in upper-mid card status, perhaps waiting for his time to be called up. So, there really is no main event heel within the roster that could enter the title picture, and threaten Roman. Well, I guess there is now …

At the end of the day, a heel Rollins, is the best kind of Seth Rollins. It’s just who he is, its what his character is about. That ego, that laugh, his weasel-like tendencies to kiss The Authority’s butt (or anyone in authority now), and garner the protection he needs to succeed; yet still kill it in the ring, and back it up on the mic.

So, while someday, I’m sure, we will all be greeted with a baby face Seth Rollins, as his character will definitely evolve to that at some point; for now, I’m enjoying heel Rollins. It’s not only the best scenario, considering the current Champion, and roster situation: it’s also what’s best for business.

Regardless people wont be compelled to cheer for roman. They still will boo him regardless. He has faced many a heel before and they still boo. People will cheer rollins regardless as he has earned that kind of respect. They were cheering for him b4 his injury so. Only the mindless sheep(the ppl who cheer for reigns) will boo rollins. But those are in the minority so.

Seth same as KO will one day turn themselves Tweener or face, both are great at getting cheap heet ie your generic town / football team suck etc etc the normal stuff, but both can tell a story in the ring which gets them the real heet. However both are very popular, KO isn’t far off being a tweener now, and give SR 3 to 6 months he will go down the same path

Whilst Rollins will get some heel heat for the time being, it’s very different to the hate (aka X-Pac heat) Reigns will get for the rest of his career. WWE need to pull the plug on Reigns.

My only issue with Seth coming back as heel is that you’ve got to wonder whether WWE’s stuck in their idea of who Rollins is supposed to be. They create ‘boxes’ for their characters and seldom ever deviate outside of them. That’s what created the problems of Cena and Reigns.
