Should Triple H Retain?

WrestleMania 32
When it comes to WrestleMania 32, it’s long been thought that the main event is going to be Roman Reigns’ most recent coronation attempt, crowd reactions be damned. And if you listen to those reactions, just when it seemed as though he’d turned a corner and was getting over, fans soured on him again. He’s not even splitting the crowds-he actually seems more disliked than Cena.

Which has me thinking. Many fans have been expecting a Reigns win for months-since even before Reigns earned the right to be in the main event, even before Reigns won the championship in the early Winter. But what if the plan changed? Or could change? I know a lot of us think that the entire card for ‘Mania has been etched in stone, winners are already known and it’s just academic. But the reality is, how often have we heard about Vince not telling a wrestler he’s going over, until right before he goes over? It’s entirely possible that, as of my writing this (mid-March), McMahon has not completely made up his mind to put the belt back on the decidedly-not-popular Reigns.

So, without a MITB briefcase in play (yet), what could that mean?

What if Hunter were to actually retain? Would that be a better option?

Yes and no, and here’s why.

No, because as much as so many are not fond of Roman, there are many who don’t like the Attitude Era guys coming back. Especially ones who are winning championships. Some feel that by doing so, you hold the younger guys back-whether their guy is Kevin Owens, Dean Ambrose, Finn Balor, etc. And for as much as it might pain them to put the belt back on Reigns, at least he’s new blood.

Yes, because Hunter is the alpha heel right now. No one is hated more, and his experience in the ring and on the mic is virtually second to none. And while it’s experience younger guys can’t get while he’s in the spotlight, having him be the lead heel isn’t exactly a bad thing. And here’s the other reason: for a while last year, the rumored match for Seth Rollins was a match against Hunter, back when there was teased tension in The Authority. Obviously, that never happened. Not yet, anyways.

So I ask you this, to make the point. Which match would you be more excited about: Reigns versus Rollins, or Hunter versus Rollins?

To me, Hunter and Rollins wins, and it’s not even close. So for now, I am actually leaning toward hoping Reigns loses, and letting Hunter remain champion until Seth Rollins makes his expected return over the Summer. Whether you bring back Rollins as a heel or a face, that match has the potential to draw, and it cements Seth’s position. I do think, if that would be the match, that he’d be coming back as a face, but for the moment that’s the least of anyone’s concerns.

So, dear readers. Do you keep the championship on Hunter for a bit longer? Or are you ready for the Roman Empire?

The way i see it is roman reigns wins the title at wrestlemania then he has two more matches agains triple h (retains the title) and i believe jericho becomes number one contender and feuds with roman. Then you have dean ambrose win MITB and cash it on roman turning dean heel and feud against each other. Triple h winning i don’t see him feuding with anybody but roman, i still think triple h vs rollins will happen at wrestlemania next year.

My vision of it was Triple H retains at Mania but there would be some crazy things going on like in his match with Sting.

Dean Ambrose gets the surprise win over Lesnar, not a solid victory but Lesnar kicks out a second too late. Dean is rolling right now and WWE is no stranger to riding the winds of a star’s sudden boost in popularity.

Anyways, at Payback, the match is made Triple H vs. Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose. Reigns is happy about this because he knows Triple H is going to get some payback (pun intended). However, during the match, Dean Ambrose being the unpredictable guy who he is may find both opponents laid out or maybe Triple H fell out of the ring. He gets the pinfall on Reigns and wins the title to a big reaction.

Everyone (including Triple H) anticipates Roman snapping and turning on Dean despite Roman assuring everyone that he’s happy for him and accepts that it happens in a triple threat match. To stir the pot, Triple H makes Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules in some kind of brutal match like Last Man Standing. Triple H makes himself special guest referee so he can stir the pot even more, counting slow and encouraging them to destroy each other while he watches.

Even with a heel turn fans won’t buy into it. Mark my words fans will start to chant “you can’t wrestle” !!!!!! …….. Roman needs a few months off TV maybe after Payback just to rebuild his character.

I wasn’t suggesting Reigns turn heel. The storyline focuses on Triple H’s goal to ruin Ambrose and Reigns while Ambrose holds the title to the crowd’s delight and while Reigns is humbled. Reigns needs to not be the focal point at the moment. I’d like to see Reigns and the Rock square off in FL next year where they’re both from. Plant the seeds this year and next being the Rock showing Reigns that he’s still got a lot to learn.

If Hunter doesn’t lose the title at Mania, he’ll lose it at Raw next night (I don’t know against who). Hunter will maybe be cheered at Mania, but only because he’s facing Roman. Next night with the belt he’ll be booed. I don’t see HHH with the belt any longer.

  • Mark Ogletree

Put the belt on him then have him turn all paranoid heel. Just a thought

  • Bryskers

Neh. HHH should not hold any title at this point.
I don’t care how desastrous Reigns could be as the champ’, a 46 y-o men should not represent the company. If it’s to put over a younger talent (like right now with reigns, then it’s fine, but if it’s not, then no)

My guess is Roman will win at mania. A surprise return of Seth Rollins will cost triple H the match causing a feud build up for extreme rules. Roman stands as the champ, Dean Ambrose will then step up as the number one contender after beating Brock. With Seth training in ring again, could be a way to show that his healing has accelerated allowing him to return sooner than thought. Even if it’s just Seth showing up to hit Triple H with a chair would cause a good face turn for him and allow him to make a return without taking a big bump doing a big finisher move.

  • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??????

Roman wins at ‘Mania, then feuds with Ambrose. I wouldn’t turn Ambrose heel at all. Roman wins the 1st match at Extreme Rules. Then the next night on Raw or the next PPV, Dean wins the 2nd match and the title and beats Roman again in the 3rd match. I say turn Roman heel after the third match and have him side with HHH & the Authority. Roman cuts a promo saying that he joined the Authority because of the power and money, he’s sick of the fans booing him and preferring Ambrose over him and saying that his friendship with Ambrose was all a sham and that he would beat Ambrose any day and any time. Roman wins the title again at Summerslam.

Meanwhile, when Rollins comes back from his injury, he’s still with the Authority but causes tension in the group by saying he wants a title match. HHH says no, not for the moment and books Seth vs Dean in a main event match for Raw with the stipulation being that if Dean loses, he can no longer get a WWE Title shot. Dean wins by DQ after Roman interferes, causing more tension between him and Seth. Then next week on Raw, HHH books a handicap match with Seth and Roman vs Dean. During the match, Seth betrays Reigns and starts attacking HHH and he starts feuding with HHH with the storyline being that Seth is mad that HHH failed to stop Roman at ‘Mania and HHH stooped low by aligning himself with Roman and preferring Roman instead of Seth as the new face of the company, while Dean continues to feud with Roman for the title. Seth of course wins the feud with HHH and then after the feud, he either feuds with both Dean and Roman, setting up the triple threat match the fans all have been waiting for.

HHH must retain at WM and that’s the best for the fans as well for the business too.

  • MEH

Reigns wins the title in a confusing manner with The Rock at ringside, tempers flare and Reigns lays the Rock out and walks up the ramp with VKM. WWE logo appears and there’s classic Rock selling in the ring as if he’s looking for the logo in pain, fade to black.
