The League Of Nations Is Just Lame

WWE Championship
From their name, to their ‘leader’, to their new entrance music; I simply cannot get into the newly formed faction of the League of Nations (LON). Separately, the four superstars that create the stable have much to offer, yet pulling them together seems lame at best. When they initially debuted, there seemed to be so much promise, but lack of reaction from fans may have them sinking into oblivion.

Perhaps it is bad booking, but the LON is just plain weak. The lack of momentum the foursome is experiencing with the fans and live crowds could simply be due to the fact that it seemed storylines were moving one way, and then instantaneously zapped into an entirely different direction. When The League of Nations originally debuted on the November 30th edition of RAW, Sheamus was the WWE World Heavyweight Champion; Rusev had returned to RAW; U.S. Champion Alberto Del Rio was getting reacquainted with the WWE Universe; and it was nice to see King Barrett placed into the mix. They had a great recipe for success, and so much potential: WWE talents outside the U.S.A forming an alliance (good concept), two of them holding WWE gold, and all solid heels. They used the numbers game to show dominance during their debut, and Del Rio kicked Colter to the curb to further enhance his heel status. It all seemed kind of cool at the time, and many, including myself, were curious to see where this would go. But then it seemed to fizzle … so fast. So what happened?

Well, as much as I am a fan, Roman Reigns happened. Listen, it’s no secret, I’m happy he is WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but the idea of a stable is to be dominant through numbers, aggression, and thus win through cheating. The LON did not really achieve that at the 2015 Tables, Ladders, and Chairs (TLC) pay-per-view (PPV) when they helped Sheamus retain the WWE title. They barely were able to subdue Reigns, and Sheamus barely got the win thanks to them. Getting brutal beaten up by Reigns post-match, didn’t help them look strong; but it wasn’t the end of the world. The idea was to strengthen Reigns’ character, show he was unstoppable, and bring Triple H to the ring and hype up the brutal beating of WWE’s COO. Too many, including myself, Reigns beating up the LON was an afterthought to what happened to Triple H. Still, the night after TLC during the December 14th edition of RAW, the same night Reigns won his WWE title, they once again all got beaten up by Reigns, which further weakened the idea of a strong LON faction. How can anyone take them seriously when one man can rid the three of them? And I say three, because unfortunately, somewhere during the mix, King Barrett has sustained an injury; which certainly does not add to helping LON’s momentum, considering the faction is so new.

It almost seems like leading into TLC, WWE Officials were holding off passing the title to Reigns, and than post-TLC (add in the crowd’s reaction, social media, etc.) there was a snap decision to place the title on Reigns at RAW. I could be wrong; this is just how it seemed to me. The domino affect meant sacrificing the LON, in order to help Reigns look strong. In general, Sheamus losing the WWE Championship so early into the forming snapped the faction’s momentum immediately.

Perhaps its even just chemistry. All four superstars have in-ring talent, mic skills, and pretty solid gimmicks. Were roles really established within the faction from the get-go? Did they even really have time to establish roles within the whirl wind of Reigns’ rise in popularity and push? Okay, so Sheamus was the leader, naturally because he was the WWE Champ when the stable was formed. Barrett perhaps the mouthpiece? Rusev (sans Lana, which I think also hurt the faction) the enforcer? What role did/does Del Rio have?

According to, Kevin Owens was originally set to join the group, however his son was quite ill the week LON debuted; and therefore Kevin was at home with his family, missing the opportunity to join the stable. While no parent takes pleasure in their child getting sick, I bet there is a small part of Kevin that is relieved he did not have any part of the group, and that he was where he should be when LON debuted.

So WNZ fans, what do you think about The League of Nations? Lame or perhaps they need more time? Leave your comments below!

  • mitland

I was pretty excited for this group when it first came about, but it seems to be a bust. Then again new day seemed like a bust at first too.

  • Jazmine Monique Perciann Gordo

The LON have became oblivious, they do have promising wrestlers in the stable, but they aren’t too good to me as a team

  • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??

I think they should end it. Everyone hates poor Sheamus lol, Rusev gets hurt from time to time, King Barrett has been lost in the mix ever since he became King of the Ring and Del Rio is the only one that’s getting over. It doesn’t help when a group of talented jobbers (Social Outcasts) is more over than the League of Nations lol.

    • MikeLo #NewNation

      I like Sheamus lol

      • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??

He’s good but everyone hates the poor guy lol.

    • MikeLo #NewNation

Rusev has always been meh.. To me

      • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??

He’s all right. Kind of felt bad for him when they made him into a joke during that breakup with Lana storyline.

        • jcice13

right??? they took this nasty mean unbeatable character and turned him into a sniffling baby…now they want him to be a bad guy again? I guess creative thinks we all have short term memory lose..

    • MikeLo #NewNation

And Barrett well… I think we all know his story

  • Damian Starr

Promising stable but sorry Dorathy this is all on Reigns booking! making him out to be unstopable and beating all of them up and taking the title off shemus made the group irrelevant

  • jcice13

I am against the majority of wrestling groups…when they get lazy and have nothing to write for the characters they like to put them all together and think just because they are fairly decent to good characters putting them together will make them all the more really is this outcast group? I have no problem with them only because they’re all basically jobbers and they can do the same thing together or apart so putting them together gives them ALL more air time..maybe if they didn’t waste so much tv time on rerunning certain angles over and over and gave that time to some other performers to do their thing the show might be better..all I know is that tonight on Smackdown we’ll see 20 minutes wasted on what happened on RAW and that truly is a waste of time since the odds of 98% of the viewers watching Smackdown already saw RAW

  • Mostafa Majzoub

I have a feeling that they will get squashed by the wyatts at WM
    Then WWE breaks the group

  • MEH

I hated this group from the get go but thought let me give them a chance. You have 4 great heels and what makes great heels? It’s them being dastardly and untrustworthy. ADR character does not fit this mould and it’s even evident when they’re together, it always seems like a battle for him to be the leader and not Sheamus. Rusev doesn’t belong either and has fallen so far it’s a shame what they have done to him. Not too long ago there was a few of us wanting a match at this Wrestlemania of him against The Rock, I even was pulling for Kurt Angle to get on board with this guy but nope WWE dropped the ball and unfortunately I don’t see him getting any traction moving forward unless he becomes a face (which I don’t think will work) or pushing the boundaries way beyond what he previously accomplished before they made him weak.
