Is Mick Foley As GM For The Long Haul?

WWE Network
After tons of anticipation, the July 18th edition of Monday Night RAW came and went; and with it, it brought much excitement, action, and entertainment. A big reason for this, was the announcement of GMs for both RAW and SmackDown: with Stephanie choosing Mick Foley, and Shane choosing Daniel Bryan.

Now, Daniel Bryan wasn’t a huge surprise, especially for those fans that frequent this site and internet; as a mishap on WWE.com last week seemed to foreshadow this appointment. But Mick Foley … well, Mick was someone that completely makes sense, but wasn’t someone I expected – and certainly wasn’t on by top five list of who I thought RAW’s GM would be.

I was taken aback last night that two baby face GMs were announced. Then I realized, that a storyline unfolding, where Stephanie and Foley don’t see eye-to-eye, makes for good T.V.; it also seems like Foley may be walking a fine line between face and heel right now … but only time can truly tell on that one.

And yes, GM Foley will do an incredible job to entertain fans. Heck, he has a tremendous amount of experience in this, as he was once RAW Commissioner from 2000 to 2001, but I guess he feels like a short-term solution. Someone who stays for a bit, and then will be gone before you know it.

Why?

Well, first off, Mick Foley is quite busy, and seems to have a lot on the go – in general. Some of it revolves around the WWE and its Network, and some projects are his own. Speaking of busy, it’s hard to ignore that he was named GM, timed perfectly around his WWE Network reality television is being premiered shortly. Was he announced as GM, to fill some time, create a storyline, that will build a foundation for another GM to step into his shoes (all while hyping up Holey Foley in the meantime). I don’t know, that’s what it seems like to me.

And there would be nothing wrong with that. This is sports entertainment after all, that’s what it is all about. WWE takes it one step further, by strategically placing its superstars in storylines and programs to hype up their other initiatives, whether that be WWE Studio movies or Total Divas. So, why not with the brand GMs? Why not with Foley. It does make sense. Plus, having a short-term GM booted out, and bringing in a new GM will help continue the shock value on programming. After all, the Universe has been bombarded with surprise returns and debuts as of late. Once the draft is complete, those kind of superstar surprises, might be a little far and few between.

At the end of the day, Foley makes a fine GM, spectacular persona, and there is sure to be friction between he and Stephanie; which will create an entertaining storyline. But, is he in it for the long haul? I don’t think so, but I do think his GM storyline, and potential exit will lay an incredible foundation for the next person to step into his RAW GM shoes.

WNZ fans! What do you think about last night’s GM announcements? Think Mick Foley will be RAW GM for a long while … or is he there short-term? Leave your comments below!

I hope this isn’t a short term run for Mick as GM but it probably would be. HHH is bound to return to television at some point this year and take over Raw again and maybe set up a match against Shane to see who’s the better person at running a show or to kayfabe take over the whole company.
