Should New Day Make History?

Xavier Woods
… And when I pose this question, I am referring to not only the fact that they are your two-time W-W-E Tag Team Champions (insert Xavier Woods’ sultry voice here); but, should they also be given a record reign, at that.

As of this writing, the New Day have been holding those coveted tag titles for 276+ days. One can’t help but notice, they sure are inching closer and closer to breaking Paul London and Brian Kendrick’s longest-reigning tag team championship record.

So, here’s my thought: if Nikki Bella could shatter AJ Lee’s record last year, why couldn’t The New Day achieve this historic goal.

The tag team division is heating up as it is. While The New Day have been, (and are) quite entertaining, despite the fact that they haven’t had a solid program with another team in ages, getting closer to achieving that historic reign could turn into a storyline for them. The anticipation, the countdown, a slew of other teams looking to bring them down; they wouldn’t necessarily need a one-on-one tag team program, and it may be able to draw attention to others in the division.

Now, to whether or not they deserve to make history. In my opinion, I think they’ve earned that spot. It has to be difficult to come up with new, fresh, and creative ways to entertain a crowd, especially when you aren’t in a solid program with another team. Yet New Day nails it, week in and week out. On top of that, they turned an unappealing gimmick, into gold; and are able to add some comedy to the show, yet still be considered a force to be reckoned with when it comes to in-ring action.

With only really about 60 or 70 days to go before they potentially hit that record, which really leads The New Day into SummerSlam season, why shouldn’t Creative keep the gold on them? The only real contenders to the titles at this point would be either Enzo and Cass (although, they have time to taste WWE gold), The Vaudevillians (although they lost their shot at Extreme Rules), or The Dudleys (albeit, their time might be running out, and it would be nice to see them reach number ten …); but honestly, is a couple of months really going to affect anything either way?

*dances like Big E and dislocate my hips* They ought to become the longest reigning defending WWE tag team champions. For them to turn a almost dead gimmick into comedy gold, it’s amazing and props to WWE for sticking to them and letting them be themselves since you know most people with unappealing gimmicks in the WWE get lost in the shuffle right away. Can’t wait for them to face Gallows and Anderson for the tag team titles.

I want them to hold the titles until American Alpha challenges them for it.

      Lol that’s too long

Hold the titles up until a day before they break the record and then let either the Dudleys or Bullet Club beat them. Instant heel heat.

I say by this point either have them break the record or if not get the titles off of them asap! I’m kind of weird about little details like that and it would annoy the hell out of me if they got so close to the record but didn’t break it. It’s time for a fresh face on top of the record books

They might as well I’m sure they’d like to get Paul Londons name out the record books

Absolutely they should break the record. Best team in wwe for years. They’ve lit up the division and made it entertaining again.

When they were first formed I hated the New Day gimmick and thought it was a very stereotypical act, but these guys turned it around and I have loved the majority of their work minus a few things that just plain out sucked like the time machine and the Edge and Christian talk show thing on one of the recent ppv’s. Let them break the record then lose the next night or whatever.
