NXT In A Nutshell: New Beginnings

Good evening ladies and gentlemen! It’s the first NXT following TakeOver, and there is much to cover. Finn Balor will address the NXT Universe. We might start to get answers about the mystery new tag team who crushed the former champions. And we open the whole show with a nice graphic honoring those lost in Orlando over the weekend.

With that out of the way, let’s get down to business!

Best Match of the night:

The matches tonight were good, not great. That being said, I would say TM61’s first NXT win was really good, but this nod goes to Dillinger versus Andrade. Cien looks good out of the gates, but Dillinger is really coming into his own. Consider me impressed.

Worst match of the night:

Nothing was really a stinker-just that the match that lands here? Well it wasn’t much of a match, as the Authors took out the moving guys. It was a chance for us to see what these two could do, but the match itself was unremarkable. What do you expect though? It was a squash.

Crowd Chants of the Night:

let’s go ‘Mella

Where’s Alexa

Ten! Ten! Ten!

there was a chant going at the beginning of the Cien/Dillinger battle, but¬† I couldn’t pick up on it. Let me know if you caught it…

Thank you Finn

Please don’t go

How you doin’

you deserve it

too sweet

this is awesome

Yes! Yes! Yes!

Star of the Night

I give this to Shinsuke and Finn. Clearly these guys know how to work a room, as the crowd went nuts to see what these guys would say or do next.

Spot of the Night:

The more I see it the more I like it, and now it has a name. Carmella’s Cone of Silence.

And how could you not like Thunder Valley, a pretty slick looking finisher for TM61.

Jobber of the Night:

Whatever those guys were called who fought the Authors of Pain. Seriously, they were manhandled, and never ever had a chance. If you looked up the definition of “jobber” in wikipedia, it would be perfectly acceptable to see their image on that page. Seriously.

Upset of the Night:

Sometimes we get them, sometimes we don’t. Tonight? Well, tonight’s one of those nights where we just didn’t have one. It happens.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

Finn Balor stood in the middle of the ring, repeatedly asking the question: “what is next for Finn Balor?”

After asking it so many times, things got interesting as we learned not so much what, but rather who. Down came the Japanese sensation, Shinsuke Nakamura!

Nakamura came and called Finn the Icon of NXT, but said that if Shinsuke Nakamura wants to be the champion, he first has to beat The Icon of NXT. Thus, we know what’s next for Finn!

Botch of the night:

Maybe I am slipping folks, but tonight I just did not see one.

Commentary of the night:

The tattooed one has him. Now the other one–NXT announce team, since they don’t know who is who yet.

The great great grand daddy of Murphy defeated the great great grand daddy of Thorne at Thunderdome

You do know Thunderdome isn’t a real location in Australia?

LOL Moment of the night:

Nothing major, but I did LOL at the banter between Phillips and Graves during the debut match for the Authors of Pain, with the team trying to sell that the behemoths came out of nowhere-to the point that they were calling them “the tattooed one” and “the other one”.

Noteworthy Moment:

Paul Ellering is in NXT. And with him, he has brought a dominant-looking team, dubbed the Authors of Pain. With a combined weight of over 600 pounds, these two brutes could soon be dominating the tag ranks. Seriously folks, if these guys aren’t relegated to an attraction, and are given a legitimate chance? They have the size and brute strength to scare just about anyone.

Blake and Murphy reunited. For now, anyways. But really, all anyone was concerned about was one very important question: where’s Alexa!

Overall lowlights:

Hardly a lowlight in the general sense, but I think a lot of folks expected Finn to say farewell and be sent off into the sunset. WWE had other ideas though, so we are going to get another dream match. Hardly a low note, however. But I put it here because I bet a lot of folks were expecting the farewell and a reunion with folks on the main roster, and that didn’t happen yet.

Overall highlights:

Top to bottom, a good show.

Loved Finn’s promo. Shinsuke’s was just as strong.

Hard not to be jazzed after the overall card though. With new blood like Cien and the Authors of Pain, plus newcomers like Shinsuke. NXT is where the fun and action are at!

After the final bell:

Seriously hard to not be excited about a match pitting Finn Balor against Shinsuke Nakamura. I don’t know how long we will have to wait, but I am sure it will be worth it.

The tag division is getting crowded with talent again, as we have not only the Authors, but also TM61. It should be an action packed summer, that’s for sure.

Authors of Pain, w/Paul Ellering, crush two jobbers.

Haven’t had a chance to watch yet, but the chanting was probably “He’s 100″ for Cien.
