NXT Takeover: Back To Brooklyn Staff Predictions

It’s a double header weekend for WWE, as they have Takeover and SummerSlam. First, we worry about NXT’s Takeover.

6 matches have been booked for the show and we here at Wrestlenewz felt the urge to predict the card, like every other wrestling fan. We gave it our best attempt and here’s what the staff came up with.

Don’t forget to add your own predictions in our comments section. Let’s see if anyone correctly predicts all 6 matches.

Takeover: Back To Brooklyn play by play coverage is being handled by WrestleNewz and it begins at around 8 PM EST. We’ll also have the fallout, so stay tuned.

NXT Championship: Samoa Joe vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

John: Now, here’s an epic clash. And honestly, for me, it’s a coin flip. It’s a big match for Joe, one of his biggest defenses thus far. And while the easy answer is to have Joe drop the belt to Shinsuke, allowing Joe to then move up to the main roster, I think it might not happen just yet. If anything, I see a Nakamura win, with Joe sticking around for at least a rematch before he moves up.

Joe: Samoa Joe. I feel like this is one of the easiest world title matches to predict. Shinsuke Nakamura may or may not become champion before getting called to the main roster. Joe worked too long and hard with Finn Balor for him to drop the belt now.

NXT Women’s Championship: Asuka vs. Bayley

John: On one hand, I could totally see Bayley becoming the first two time women’s champion. But, here’s the thing. She’s made her main roster debut, sort of, by showing up last month to help out Sasha. So, with that already done, I think it’s more logical to have Bayley put up a valiant fight, but lose and line her up for a full time main roster debut.

Joe: Asuka. We’ve seen Asuka embrace this heel persona since several of the females were drafted to the main roster. Having Bayley as the first two champion would make her more appealing to fans, but I think she’s headed to SmackDown. That way, Bayley can dominate the blue brand while Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Nia Jax handle RAW.

NXT Tag Team Championship: Dash and Dawson vs. Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa

John: This one is a hard choice. I love what the two cruiserweights can do in the ring as a tag team, and I think they are deserving of the titles. But The Revival have proven to be strong champions. I am going to go with the challengers here, however-but for one reason. I say Ciampa and Gargano win, only to be targeted by The Authors of Pain.

Joe: Dash and Dawson. While I don’t know what’s next for Dash and Dawson, they should hold the titles for a few more months. They’re the first champions in NXT to be two-times titles holders, so I see that angle being played out until maybe January. Maybe even until WrestleMania time.

Bobby Roode vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas

John: Here’s another easy one. Sort of. There’s just no way Roode loses his debut, even if it is to another recently debuted talent in Almas. Almas has shown he’s quite entertaining and gifted, but I have a feeling Roode has himself a ticket pretty much right to the top. Roode gets his first win tonight.

Joe: Bobby Roode. I like “Cien,” but this is Roode’s chance to show NXT fans what he can do in the ring. Roode will be in the world title picture within months and this is his start. Look for “Cien” to do everything possible, just to come up short. A cheap win is possible to help Roode get over as a heel.

Austin Aries vs. No Way Jose

John: Now, this one is a tough one. Think about it-Aries and Nakamura both debuted before WrestleMania, to much hype. And one is main eventing this very show. That being said, Aries deserves a win here, but I think Jose does too. A win for either could lead to bigger and better things. I really think Jose actually gets the win here.

Joe: Austin Aries. No Way Jose seems like a novelty act and Aries is a future champion in NXT. I don’t see Aries doing well on the main roster because of his age, so NXT is the best place for him. There’s no point in pushing someone who is in the final five years of their career. I can’t wait to see Aries hit the brainbuster.

Ember Moon vs. Billie Kay

John: Sorry, even though Kaye is herself a relatively new face around NXT, I just don’t see any way Ember Moon gets a loss in her debut match. It would be a stunning move, just figuring that NXT has given Ember Moon several weeks’ worth of hype via vignettes, so the investment there does not bode well for Billie in Brooklyn.

Joe: Ember Moon. This pick is solely based on how WWE has hyped her through vignettes. We haven’t seen much from Billie Kay, but her job to help sell Ember as a threat to the Women’s Championship. Time will tell if Ember is the real deal.
