NXT’s Tag Team Scene

Two divisions, I feel, have been rather heavily raided over the last 6 months, when it comes to NXT. The women (which is actually more like the last year), and the tag teams. The brand recently saw The Vaudevillains and Enzo and Cass get called up, and while it looked like The Vaudevillains would do big things early on, it’s Enzo and Cass enjoying the most success thus far. And then, on the WWE Draft, former tag team champions American Alpha got called up as well. That’s three really good teams, all now off the NXT roster. So how does the rest of the roster look?

Honestly, compared to the women, pretty healthy.

You have The Revival, the current (and only 2 time) NXT Tag Team Champions. You could argue that this duo is ready to be called up whenever the opportunity arises, but for now, they are locked in as champions.

Beyond them? Ciampa and Gargano sure want a shot at the champions, and considering they’ve beaten them once, why not? This is an exciting duo, and a strong tag team.

And we can’t go too far without mentioning The Authors of Pain. The team that decimated Alpha, is primed to run roughshod over the entire division. It’s not a question of if they hold the tag titles in my opinion. It’s just a matter of when.

And I’d be remiss if I ignored the recently debuted team of TM-61. They look dynamic, athletic and exciting, so these two should not be overlooked. With time, it’s not hard to imagine these two challenging for, and winning, the titles.

That’s a better grouping, or at least a more clear grouping, of top talent than the women have at present. And the beauty of tag team wrestling is that, while just as often you get a team that’s worked together for years, you can also have a team put together out of convenience or necessity, meaning two singles stars who wouldn’t typically be considered in this listing, could suddenly emerge as a tag team to be reckoned with.

Even if the four teams I called out are the only four teams in play for the next six months, I think that’s a healthy roster for some entertaining tag team action.
