RAW In A Nutshell: Cesaro Shines

WWE
As we creep closer and closer to SummerSlam, the temperature is rising still. The action in the ring is getting to be as hot as the thermometers outside, and that’s gotta be good for business. We already know a few epic matches, so let’s see what else develops tonight, live on RAW.

Best Match of the night:

I would be doing things a disservice if I didn’t at least make mention of Sheamus and Cesaro. I mean, that’s not even a typo folks. These two are working on an interesting little program, ever since neither was thrilled with where they got drafted. Cesaro has taken two in a row by my count, but regardless of that (because wins and losses rarely mean much in pro wrestling), the match was really good. When the crowd chants “this is awesome”, it’s usually for good reason. This one was too.

Worst match of the night:

As popular as the Cesaro/Sheamus match was, the Cesaro/Rusev match felt like a letdown. At least to me it did.

Crowd Chants of the Night:

How you doin’

Cesaro

This is awesome

We want tables

Boring

New Day rocks

Foley

Yes!Yes!Yes!

Star of the Night

I feel as though Cesaro did a lot of good work tonight, and may finally be turning a corner again. But, just when it seemed he might go over in the main event? Disappointment. Hard to read, but one wonders if, by Daniel’s comments, we might see a trade?

Spot of the Night:

Reigns hits Rusev. Rusev hits Lana. Lana hits cake. You knew someone was going to leave with cake all over themselves.

Cesaro’s escape of the Accolade was neat too. I mean, we’ve seen people escape it before, but like that? Was pretty awesome, I thought.

Jobber of the Night:

Jorel Nelson. I mean, the guy was getting fed to Braun Strowman. And with a name like Jorel, unless he’s directly out of the Superman comics, he had no shot.

Upset of the Night:

Sin Cara and Neville over The Dudleys. Heck, if Strowman didn’t crush Jorel, I’d have given the jobber spot to The Dudleys. Why did they come back to WWE? I guess the paycheck was that good, because, they’ve been used horribly outside of the first couple months of their return. I mean, if they are happy to be enhancement talents, then good on them, but wow, they’ve been neutered.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

That they only put Lana’s face in the wedding cake. With Reigns using the Spear, I figured there’d have been someone getting put through the cake and table. Disappointed.

The odd pre-main event segment between Foley and Bryan, which then evolved into Rusev being challenged by Cesaro, right on the spot as the main event, for the title.

Botch of the night:

Could it be? I didn’t catch one tonight. So either it was a clean night. Or i just missed it. OK, I didn’t miss it. They kept it till the very end, when Rusev took the speak from Reigns. The look on his face was like, 5 seconds before anyone actually saw Roman on TV…and he was already leaning/falling backwards before being hit.

Commentary of the night:

I’d rather relive the wedding between Kermit and Miss Piggy

There were some good lines, good banter, but not a lot struck me as worthy to land here.

LOL Moment of the night:

Seth Rollins, ripping on Finn Balor’s Demon name and persona, coming up with his own moniker: Seth “Rambo Apocalypse” Rollins. You know that’s going to be used down the road now.

I’ve never seen a wedding between a Bulgarian Sasquatch and a mail order bride.

Drs. Gallows and Anderson. Nice little spot there.

Noteworthy Moment:

Neville and Sin Cara teaming up to beat the Dudleys. Wonder if this becomes more than a one night partnership.

Daniel Bryan was invited by Mick Foley to show up on RAW, and indeed he has.

Overall lowlights:

Color me disappointed that Neville went with Sin Cara as his partner. I mean, I get the athleticism and whatnot, but surprise partners are a great vehicle to bring guys back, or really stun folks. Sin Cara doesn’t move needles.

Goldust and R-Truth fighting over Scooby Doo and who was or wasn’t in the movie. Look, we get it, hype the movie WWE put out and all…but it’s painful at times (most times) and, most importantly, should never ever…EVER…air at 10:45PM as part of the main show. Waste. Of. Time.

Though, nothing is a bigger waste than Puff Daddy. Or just about any other guest host. Ever.

Most of the last hour dragged. Felt severely lacking. This is when SmackDown, at 2 hours, looks great.

Overall highlights:

Roman versus Rusev at SummerSlam is official.

As is Enzo and Cass versus Jericho and Owens.

Cesaro and Sheamus had, in my opinion, the match of the night.

After the final bell:

SummerSlam had a few more matches made official. The card is looking good.

This card, however? Left some things to be desired. Not sure if I blame the pacing, or the available talent, or the booking, or a combo of things, but it wasn’t, for me, a great final hour of the show.

Things have to get a bit better heading into SummerSlam. And, with Lesnar on RAW next week, he may be just what they ordered.
