RAW In A Nutshell: Fallout From Vegas

Wyatt Family
Good evening folks! We are back, live, just 24 hours removed from a very action-packed, satisfying and eventful Money In The Bank PPV. Specifically, we saw the WWE Championship change hands, not once, but twice, thanks to a cash-in by briefcase winner Dean Ambrose. There’s much to cover, and much going on, as we turn our attention to Battleground, and of course the looming draft and brand split as well. So without further delay, let’s get things kicked off with that brand-new WWE Champion, live in the middle of the ring!

Best Match of the night:

I almost, by default, have to give it to the main event, don’t I? It was a solid enough effort, I will grant you that. But usually at some point during a show, I have one or two matches that stood out and laid claim to this spot. Tonight, I got to the main event and no match had made me say “wow, match of the night.”

So, by default to an extent, this one is for Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns. Partly because nothing else was given that much time, and partly because it actually wasn’t a bad match.

Worst match of the night:

Rusev versus Titus. Because, if for no other reason, it never really happened.

But, on a side note, I felt this action was a lot more enjoyable than last night’s match. Go figure.

Crowd Chants of the Night:

You deserve it

dude

How you doin’

Cena

AJ Styles

Let’s go Cena/Cena sucks

Welcome back

New Day rocks

New Day falls

USA

Stupid idiot

you can’t wrestle

Star of the Night

I am going to play it somewhat safe, and split it between two men, neither of whom wrestled.

The returning Bray Wyatt. And the new WWE Champion Dean Ambrose.

Because neither man had to actually wrestle to resonate tonight.

Spot of the Night:

Reigns spearing Rollins through the Spanish announce table. But, admittedly, before that happened, I really didn’t have much in mind for this.

Jobber of the Night:

Dare I say, the Vaudevillains? Their match against Enzo and Cass sure felt the part, as I could recall very little fight from them in this match.

If you don’t like that option, then I will go unconventional and say Karl Anderson, who was basically playing the part of the jobber to John Cena, until The Club made their move.

Upset of the Night:

None to speak of. This is becoming more and more rare, apparently.

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

I was about to say that Charlotte and Paige was kind of a blah match. They had a few spots that looked less than crisp. And I am not overly fond of Dana Brooke’s schtick.

But then Sasha Banks returned, and all was made better.

Botch of the night:

I won’t single out one specific thing, but Paige and Charlotte sure didn’t look super crisp on a few spots. From Charlotte landing funny on her moonsault, to Paige’s awkward looking rollup, they’ve looked better.

Commentary of the night:

Why else would you have a protege, if you aren’t going to use the protege?

LOL Moment of the night:

Folks, I couldn’t think of one. But then I realized, I forgot all about the brief return of People Power and John Laurianitis. If his surprise cameo wasn’t enough, he topped it off with a really loud red suit, and some rather bright white shoes.

Noteworthy Moment:

People power is back, if only for one night, and with a really bright red suit.

Look out, guess who is back tonight? Yep, that would be the Wyatt Family. And just as they got rolling, Bray got cut off, by none other than the New Day.

In the main event tonight, we got a number one contenders match for Dean Ambrose’s world title. Reigns and Rollins went toe to toe for the second night in a row, but this time things ended in a double count-out. So, instead of fighting one man at Battleground, Mr. Ambrose thought he was crazy enough to take on both men.

Overall lowlights:

Not a totally terrible lowlight, but a point of observation. Tonight there felt like there were a lot of short, 3-5 minute matches, interspersed with a bunch of talking segments. Which, it kind of was. Some of them worked out decently, like Bray. But some things just chopped up the show too much. Or maybe it’s just me.

In any event, last night’s show would be a tough act to follow.

Overall highlights:

Ambrose as champion.

Reigns as not.

Sasha is back

Bray Wyatt and his family too.

And we are getting the triple threat match I think a lot of people saw coming last night, as our Battleground main event.

After the final bell:

Not a horrible show, but not the best either.

I am curious to see what happens with New Day/Wyatt Family, as it seems like a curious pairing. But considering each side is good on the mic, that alone ought to add some entertainment value to things.

Waiting to see what gets added to Cena versus The Club. One would think this is going to require Cena to get some backup, but who? And when?

Where was that aggression last night for Rusev and Titus? Felt like a much different match, just one night after a disappointing one

And we are going to get a month of buildup before we get another triple threat match. I don’t dislike the match format, and this one ought to be good…but it sure seems like WWE has done a lot of triple threat and fatal fourway type matches lately. so I just hope this isn’t a bad move by Creative. Although, this trio in a triple threat match? Surely WWE can’t even screw that up. Can they?

A big botch was Dana holding Charlotte’s leg under the rope with the ref looking right at her. How do you not call that interference? Whatever lol.

  • The Shockmaster

A LOL moment for me was Reigns losing his cool at the crowd during the “You can’t wrestle” chant.
