Top 10 Myths and Rumors in the WWE

BannerOver the years, the WWE Universe has been home to some pretty outlandish storylines centered around its larger-than-life characters. Remember when Popa Shango placed a voodoo curse on the Ultimate Warrior? Or when Ric Flair altered photos to make it seem like he and Miss Elizabeth were a couple at one time? The list really could go on and on.

As life often imitates art, there have also been incredible urban legends that have circled around the company itself and its superstars for years now. Here are the top 10 myths within the WWE:

10. Hardcore Championship

The Hardcore Champion title was really a leather strap covered in smashed up plates that were duct taped onto it. Of course, some fans have put two and two together and concocted a pretty interesting urban legend around the origin of the title.

Rumor has it, the Hardcore Championship was in fact Hulk Hogan’s former WWE title. As the story goes, it is the very same championship title that Mr. Perfect smashed up with a hammer on the November 25th edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event in 1989. If you go back and look at the footage, it seems like the Hardcore title and Hogan’s WWE title may be one in the same; however, no one can really confirm that fact.

Also, there was a second and a third Kane. He was an imposter played by Drew Hankinson aka Luke Gallows. The Imposter Kane who wore ring gear that the real Kane had long ago retired debuted on the May 29, 2006 episode of RAW attacking the real Kane during a match against Shelton Benjamin. The two Kanes feuded until the June 26, 2006 episode of RAW when he cost the real Kane a match against Randy Orton then got destroyed by the real Kane and thrown out the door of the arena, never to be seen again. This was actually the third Kane. The second was The Dead Man himself, Kane’s half brother, The Undertaker. Undertaker impersonated Kane not once, but twice. The first time was on the August 24 1998 episode of RAW for what was supposed to be the first ever Hell in a Cell match in RAW history. The match was to be against Mankind. The real Kane unmasked Taker that night. Undertaker was returning the favor as Kane had impersonated Taker a week earlier on RAW in a segment with Stone Cold Steve Austin. The second time was on the March 15, 1999 episode of RAW when Taker impersonated Kane to fight with Triple H. Taker unmasked himself that night during an interview with Vince McMahon.
