Triple H Wins The 2016 Royal Rumble Match To Become New WWE Champion

Xavier Woods
Live from the at Amway Center in Orlando, WWE COO Triple H returned to action and won the 2016 Royal Rumble match, to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view(PPV). This is the 14th time the legendary wrestler has captured the WWE title.

Full results of the 2016 Royal Rumble PPV, below:

Mark Henry and Jack Swagger defeated The Dudleys (D-Von and Bubba Ray), Darren Young and Damien Sandow, and The Ascension (Viktor and Konnor)

Fatal 4-Way Match For Two Spots In The Royal Rumble – Pre-Show Kickoff Match

While Mark Henry and Jack Swagger may have won the match, Damien Sandow stole the show; and received a huge pop from the crowd when he entered ringside, and garnered a number of crowd chants while in the ring and on the apron. Some good action inside and outside the squared circle with this match, it was Mark Henry who pinned Viktor from The Ascension for the win; winning his team two spots into the 2016 Royal Rumble match.

Dean Ambrose defeated Kevin Owens to retain the Intercontinental Championship

Last Man Standing Match

The perfect way to open up the 2016 Royal Rumble, both competitors got right into the match; with Dean Ambrose throwing Kevin Owens over the top rope, into the announcers’ table, where Owens fell onto Michael Cole. It didn’t take long for the ‘holy $h!t’ chants to start, when Owens pulled a Cannonball onto Ambrose, and into the barricades outside the ring. Then the tables, chairs, and kendo sticks came out, and the match became an incredible brawl. In the end, it was Ambrose throwing Owens onto a table outside the ring (from the top rope), which got Owens the 10-count, and earned Ambrose the Last Man Standing win to retain the IC title.

The New Day (Big E. and Kofi Kingston with Xavier Woods) defeated The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) to retain the Tag Team Championship

With Francesca 2.0’s debut at the Royal Rumble PPV, the New Day seemed to dominate The Usos during a majority of the match. Surprisingly, the Orlando crowd was heavily behind The New Day, chanting ‘New Day Rocks’ and booing The Usos. While The Usos made a bit of a comeback, Jey Uso was in the ring with Kingston ready to seal the deal, and was on the verge of winning the match and titles back. A quick tag (that Uso never saw) to Big E, and the Big Ending move from the wrestler; and Jey was out like a light for the three count. New Day wins, and retained the Tag Team Championships.

Kalisto Alberto defeated Alberto Del Rio to win the United States Championship

In a classic ‘David versus Goliath’ storyline, Alberto Del Rio dominated the match from the get-go; throwing Kalisto in and around the ring, and the outside area. Del Rio even tried to take the wrestler’s mask off during one point in the match. Kalisto did make a comeback, and was able to lay his signature Salida Del Sol, but Alberto reached for the rope to break the count. After a miss along the ropes, Kalisto was able to hit the Salida Del Sol once again on Del Rio to gain the three count, and win the U.S. title, to become two-time United States Champion.

Charlotte defeated Becky Lynch to retain the Divas Championship

In an even-toned match (at the beginning), perhaps the factor in Charlotte’s favor was her father, two-time WWE Hall of Famer, Ric Flair. At one point, “The Nature Boy” distracted Lynch on the outside by kissing her. The match went downhill for her after that, with Charlotte taking advantage of this distraction, and regaining control of the bout. However, Lynch did come back. Both ladies used move, upon counter-move, with Charlotte getting out of Lynch’s signature submission the Dis-Arm-Her by lifting her up in the air, and slamming her down on in the middle of the ring. Unfortunately, while placing the Dis-Arm-Her on Charlotte a second time, Ric threw his sports jacket over Lynch, breaking the move; where Charlotte was able to spear her, and get the three count to retain her Divas title. At the end of the match, Sasha Banks came out, threw Lynch out of the ring, and then laid the Bank Statement on Charlotte; grabbing the Divas title and holding it high in air in the middle of the ring.

      • Lisa

So Reigns losing makes the PPV epic?

        • IM MAD JOHNSON #NewNation

Gahhh!!! Nooooo! Damn you WWE and your Booking!

  • Z….

I called it on HHH. I don’t know what happened, but I think he just tied flair at 16. Flair also won the title in the rumble, and I’m pretty sure I remember Vince winning the title in the rumble. B/c of the AJ Styles situation, I’m going to check this out later, plus I’m sure there was a classic HHH world champion celebration pose. As someone said earlier (and I’m sure all of us were also thinking), if he was going to win the title, he should have grown his hair back lol

    • Bite Me You Loser

Triple H is a 14x champ now not 16x. Vince didn’t win the WWF title in the Rumble.

  • The Shockmaster

    Anyone but Reigns :)

  • MEH

Well there goes my anticipation for Wrestlemania!
