I like the fact that Maryse has returned. She was never one of my favorite wrestlers, but I always enjoyed her promos; and one fact you cannot ignore is Maryse’s confidence in the ring, on the mic, and when it comes to her WWE persona in general. In fact, it only really took her moments into her return, post-slapping of Daddy Ryder that is, to garner some incredible heat from the RAW audience. She showed up, and she is simply hated; and whether fans hate her because of who she is in real life, or because of the lifestyle she and her hubby Miz have, or people just generally have a distain for her: booing, is booing, and it is no better sign that you are doing what you should be doing as a heel when you get heat (sorry, Roman …)
At the end of the day, she brings new relevance to Miz. He was kind of flip-flopping between heel and face territories pre-Mania. It’s almost like his character was so completely and ridiculously obnoxious, that fans may have started finding him humorous? Not over like the New Day, but he was walking a bit of a line there. Then, enter Maryse, and everything changes. He’s back in heel territory, back to still being obnoxious; but now he has someone by his side to add to it, and I will admit, I’m finding them both to be highly entertaining.
But will Maryse simply stick by Miz’s side, and help him with his career, or will she take the plunge back into women’s wrestling? She’s beautiful, athletic, and while she’s no where near the calibre of say a Charlotte, Becky, Sasha, or Nattie; she could probably hold her own in a match, or be a pinch hitter if they need another woman for a tag match. Ring rust may be need to be dusted off, but surely she’s better than say a Lana or Eva Maria at this point?
I’m guessing that Maryse probably won’t dive into the women’s division. She may have come back to help her husband enhance his character, because heaven knows he needed something to help freshen up his persona. Maybe she likes the idea of being on the road, or perhaps her sitting ringside has more to do with Total Divas, and the need for media savvy talent on the cast, than anything else.
Regardless, The Miz having Maryse by his side is a refreshing change, and it’s nice to see the two-time Divas Champ return to the ring, even if it is simply as a mouthpiece.
