At Night of Champions 2012, Kane and Daniel Bryan won the WWE Tag Team Championship from R-Truth and Kofi Kingston. Since then, no tag team in WWE has been able to dethrone Team Hell No, despite their dysfunction as partners.
It has always been perceived as inevitable that Team Hell No’s arguments and fights will eventually lead to the break-up of the champions. When that does finally happen, who will be the team to take the titles? That is, who will be the next WWE Tag Team Champions?
Brodus Clay and Tensai have made a good argument as the most recent up-and-coming tag team in WWE. Separately, neither superstar has found much success. However, as a team, the Monsters of Funk have been impressive. Although they are also a babyface team, Clay and Tensai can still be the next tag team champions. If Team Hell No defends their titles in a fatal four-way match, or gauntlet-style match, Clay and Tensai could have a good chance of winning the belts.
Team Rhodes Scholars have been on quite the losing streak since breaking up as a team. Sandow and Rhodes continue to lose to superstars such as The Miz and Sheamus. It has baffled me as to why WWE decided to split up Team Rhodes Scholars. It seemed as though Rhodes and Sandow would be the ones to dethrone Team Hell No at Royal Rumble. While the tag team division was growing, Team Hell No and Rhodes Scholars stood out among the rest. Rhodes and Sandow were two singles stars who were trying to compete with the likes of CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler and at the time Miz and Alberto Del Rio. Getting lost in the shuffle of many heels, putting Team Rhodes Scholars together looked like a great fit for everyone. WWE should recognize their mistake and put Sandow and Rhodes back together again so they can finally become the next WWE Tag Team Champions.
The Prime Time Players, Darren Young and Titus O’Neil, were on the verge of becoming tag team champions until their manager, A.W. was fired. Shortly after that, Kane and Bryan became a tag team, followed by Sandow and Rhodes, leaving the Prime Time Players out in the cold. Young and O’Neil are now the superstars usually chosen to face Team Hell No on a random Raw or Smackdown, but they never win. Titus O’Neil may have a bright future as a singles star at some point, but right now is not the time. The main event scene is too crowded for a young star like O’Neil, but the tag team title situation is open. If WWE chooses to keep Sandow and Rhodes out of the tag team division, the Prime Time Players become the top heel team and could be the next WWE Tag Team Champions.
The Shield could also make for a good argument as the next WWE Tag Team Champions. Whether it is Rollins and Ambrose, Rollins and Reigns or Ambrose and Reigns, The Shield would make for an impressive team. The Shield has shown great teamwork as a threesome, but it is unclear what the third superstar would do if the other two became a tag team. Currently, WWE seems set on continuing to put the group in six-man tag matches so they may not be the team to dethrone Kane and Daniel Bryan.
There are other teams, such as the Usos, Epico and Primo, currently injured Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel, and Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara. These teams seem to have less of a chance of becoming the next tag team champions than those discussed before. The teams discussed before are also more deserving than these teams due to their gimmicks and previous success.
