Let’s recap, shall we?
AJ Styles, former lead dog of the Bullet Club, defended his spot as sole number one contender to Roman Reigns’ WWE Championship.
Doc Gallows and Karl Anderson? Oh, they just jumped out of the crowd and attacked Jimmy and Jey Uso following their win in the tag team tournament.
Wait…Jimmy and Jey are cousins of Roman Reigns, aren’t they?
And, it wouldn’t be the first time in the last year when someone looking to send Roman a message, did so through family.
It could evolve into the next major angle in WWE. Talking about Nexxus, before Cena killed it. Shield, before they were broken up. New World Order, before everyone in the WCW locker room was in one faction or another. WWE did sort of address the elephant in the room on this week’s RAW from London, with AJ, Doc and Karl catching up backstage. And then AJ denied working with them, after Doc and Karl jumped Roman following the verbal confrontation between Styles and Reigns. Depending on how things develop between now and Payback, this could be huge. Like, fans being happy Daniel Bryan finally went over at ‘Mania huge.
Am I overstating things? I don’t think that I am. And here is why.
The WWE Universe, by and large, is not fond of Roman Reigns. He is booed, and often fiercely. Even pairing him with Bray Wyatt on RAW did nothing for the current face of the company. It’s a safe bet to say a large percentage of the WWE Universe would be thrilled if, come Payback, Reigns wound up being booked to drop the strap-and that would have been BEFORE the number one contender became AJ Styles.
But, could you imagine if Styles did it, with an assist from Anderson and Gallows, by way of an official Club reunion?
I think the roof would blow off of the arena.
Give WWE a hot, talented and legitimately “over” faction, and things get really interesting in a hurry. That Bullet Club was so immensely popular overseas is certainly a fact that has not been lost in Stamford. WWE has desperately been hunting for “the next big thing” for forever. Now, they have the foundation pieces on the roster, active within the company, and (in the case of Finn Balor) leading NXT.
If they play things perfectly, it may be a stressful next few months for Roman Reigns, but the WWE Universe may be overjoyed.
WNZ readers, are you up for a Bullet Club reunion?
