Did WWE Drop The Ball On Seth Rollins – Roman Reigns Program?

I hate to jump to conclusions based on one bad promo, but here we go. Who else thought the promo between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins was lame on the Memorial Day edition of Monday Night RAW? (I’ve just raised both my hands).

Off the cusp of Rollins’ awesome return, attacking Reigns at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view (PPV), and then his explosive opening promo on the May 23rd edition of Monday Night RAW; one would think their first face-to-face wouldn’t end in such an anti-climatic way.

I get it, let’s save something for their main event match at the Money In The Bank (MITB) PPV, but Rollins running up and down the ramp, to a very poorly executed in-ring speech by Reigns was just an awful watch.

I get it. Rollins’ character is a weasel, and to add further heat, the fact that he kept trying to run into the ring, only to run away, was enhancing his heel status; with the attempt to further position Reigns as strong. But still, considering these two men have had injuries come in the way of their very first major one-on-one match (one that was cancelled for the 2014 Night of Champions PPV due to emergency surgery for Reigns; and one cancelled for the 2015 Survivor Series, due to Rollins’ recent injury), shouldn’t this match be a little more anticipated?

Think about it. It’s a match, that is really two years in the making. Rollins has feuded heavily with Dean Ambrose over the past two years, since his split up from the Shield, and while he’s tossed around words with Roman, there has really been nothing concrete, no one-on-one; this is really a match many within the WWE Universe should be wanting to see.

But at this point, I’m more excited about The Club reuniting, John Cena’s return, and potentially Kevin Owens winning the MITB briefcase. Once again, the main event storyline of a PPV, the one that should have the strongest focus, is simply not being executed effectively.

With three weeks to go, and only two Monday Night RAWs before the MITB PPV; there is still plenty of time to add some excitement to this match. Yes, we are talking about one promo, but, one bad promo can really set the tone for a feud. Mind you, one bad promo can also be erased with two good ones.

So what does WWE Creative need to do? Perhaps draw in their histories (a little video montage can make a world of difference for a feud, especially when you add commentary from other talents and head office folks). Maybe, draw in the fact that they have never faced each other one-on-one within the main roster. Then add in the fact that these two were part of one the best factions in WWE history: and I do believe the program can be saved.

One can point the finger to Roman Reigns, one can say the WWE should’ve turned Seth Rollins face instead of heel; however, the fact remains that all the elements within this program are spot on. Creative just needs to step it up in terms of how the characters are booked at the end of the day. The story is there between these two personas, it needs to be pulled apart, be told to the fans in a way that will make them feel invested in the angle.

WNZ fans! What do you think about the Rollins/Reigns feud? How did you feel about their promo on Monday Night? Can one bad promo ruin a good program? Leave your comments below!

To me, like Cena, Roman will always be the heel in any match he has.

I think Roman gets worse reactions than cena ever has. That crowd had a lot of love for cena on Monday. The crowd were half with him and half with styles, that surprised me a little. That whole segment was fantastic. But Roman v Seth will be a fantastic match, and I do expect it to pick
Up over the coming weeks. I didn’t love the segment, but it didn’t take a genius to
Work out the weasel heel wouldn’t get straight in the ring with the Samoan bad Arse.

This post is as well thought out and constructed as your articles. Congratulations.

Shouldn’t you be off writing a list somewhere Lisnow?

Too soon to compare a veteran with a rookie.

Considering that summerslam is not even close to being sold out , I have a feeling , that we might have some panic going in in the back, and they might finally be realizing that no matter what do, Roman will never be this big star they were hoping for

  • ‘Drowen Hart #NN #NBNC ?????

Too early to tell for me if they dropped the ball on this storyline. I’ll be a little bit surprised if Seth wins the title at MITB.

      DQ ending or no contest.

        Probably a no contest
