WWE Fastlane 2016 Staff Predictions

Wyatt Family
It’s almost the end of February and Fastlane is finally upon us.

7 matches have been booked for the show and we here at WrestleNewz felt the urge to predict the card, like every other wrestling fan. We gave it our best attempt and here’s what the staff came up with.

Don’t forget to add your own predictions in our comments section. Let’s see if anyone correctly predicts all 7 matches. If that happens, let’s talk about a job.

Fastlane play by play coverage is being handled by WrestleNewz and the pay per view part begins at 8 PM EST. We’ll also have the fallout, so stay tuned.

Should be a fun, hectic, wild and uncertain three hours.

2-out-of-3 Falls Match for United States Championship: Kalisto vs. Alberto Del Rio

Dorathy: Alberto Del Rio. With Sin Cara’s return, I see Kalisto drifting back into tag team action; and he simply cannot do this as the U.S. Champion. I also see this as a way for ADR to save some face. It really has been a program that was win-win for both superstars.

John: I am bummed that this one is happening on the pre-show, because a best 2 out of 3 falls match appeals to me, and is something I think ought to be on the main card-especially because it involves a championship belt. That being said, I expect Del Rio to win the match and reclaim the championship. And I hope that, no disrespect to Kalisto, but that we get a better feud to take place at WrestleMania.

Joe: Alberto Del Rio. With Sin Cara back from injury, the WWE might want to focus on them as a tag team. So, Del Rio gets his belt back by default.

Chris Jericho vs. AJ Styles

Dorathy: -AJ Styles. Styles has won one match, Jericho pulled out a win against AJ on a recent SmackDown; this bout is the tie-breaker. Jericho is helping to push Styles over, and this is his first pay-per-view. It’s Styles all the way.

John: This one is shaping up into one of the more pleasantly surprising feuds. No, they won’t grab the headlines, but they may well steal the show. This one I see ending in either a draw, or a count out. If this were the good old WWF, they would announce that there is a 15 minute or 30 minute time limit, and this bad boy would go the distance with no decision. Why? All to set up ‘Mania, of course.

Joe: Styles. The win lets Styles be the winner in his first WWE feud and pushes Chris Jericho closer to heel status.

Intercontinental Championship Match: Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler

Dorathy: Kevin Owens. The IC belt (as per the usual) has been flip flopping around from superstar to superstar. I think it has a home in Kevin Owens until Wrestlemania 32, at the very least. #FightOwensFight #TheKevinOwensShow #KOMania #YesIAmAKOFan

John: As much as I would love to see Dolph win the title, Owens did just win it. I do not see KO losing the belt less than a week after he won it, though nothing really would surprise me. That being said, I’ll take Kevin Owens in this one.

Joe: Kevin Owens. I don’t agree with Owens being champion after losing the feud to Dean Ambrose, but he has the gold again and it’s too early to drop it.

Ryback, Kane and Big Show vs. Wyatt Family

Dorathy: The Wyatts. While I love Ryback, Show, and Kane; but, this match is set to prove how destructible the Wyatt clan is, and can be.

John: The head-scratcher for me here is that, once again, it’s the minions doing Bray’s dirty work, and Bray just orchestrates from the sidelines. Puzzling, for as good as he’s supposed to be. That being said, I think this one goes to the babyfaces, and in a manner that closes the door on a program no one really wanted to see. Especially if Wyatt might be headed for a clash with Brock.

Only way I want this one continuing past Fastlane? If it sets up a four-v-four tag team match, with Wyatt entering the fray, and Show/Kane/Ryback joined by The Undertaker.

Joe: Wyatt Family. This should be an easy win for the Wyatt Family, but some problem with Bruan Strowman will make the win a little harder to secure. This also allows Strowman to leave the Wyatt Family and be a singles star in the coming weeks.

Naomi and Tamina vs. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch

Dorathy: Becks and Banks. This is time for the NXT women to shine, and as much as I do love unity (insert high-pitched female voice here) … I see this match as an opportunity to continue to push Lynch and Banks into the spotlight.

John: I have a feeling Tamina and Naomi win this one, but not without outside help. Someone may do a run in (Cameron?), giving the heels the advantage and the win, in a match that they otherwise should have lost.

Joe: Naomi and Tamina. They might not be the better team, but a loss for Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch helps create the triple threat for WrestleMania with Charlotte.

Divas Championship Match: Charlotte vs. Brie Bella

Dorathy: Brie Bella. Yes, pretty stupid prediction considering all arrows are pointing towards a Triple Threat Match between Charlotte, Banks, and Lynch at Wrestlemania 32. Still, with Bella retiring in the summer, and off the cusp of DB’s huge retirement announcement, does the WWE capitalize on this and have a highly publicized WM 32 match between the two divas, where Bryan is in Bella’s corner? Does she get one last title reign before she hangs her boots up? Does she have the Trish Stratus effect, where she leaves the company on a high note? The promo between the two women on RAW was pretty intense.

John: My gut says Charlotte wins. So does my head. My heart might want a Brie win, but I don’t see it happening. What I could see happening? Ric Flair doing something in the match to influence the outcome, in such a fashion as Brie will wish she had someone watching her back. Which could lead to a re-match at WrestleMania.

Joe: Charlotte. She’s keeping the belt until at least WrestleMania. I say she holds the gold until SummerSlam, to solidify her spot at the top of the divas division.

No. 1 Contender’s Match for WWE Championship: Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar

Dorathy: Roman Reigns … because it is written in the cards. Hope the booing isn’t too loud.

John: Logic says this one is Reigns. For months, rumors and speculation have pointed to a Reigns/Hunter match at WrestleMania, and I haven’t sensed that thinking has changed. That being said, I think the “safer” pick would be Lesnar because he is a known quantity and a proven draw. Others would argue that Ambrose would be a popular choice, but I don’t think I’d be so bold as to push him into the likely ‘Mania main event. So I will stick with Reigns here, but would be more than OK if i was wrong.

Joe: Roman Reigns. The biggest shock of the night would be Reigns not winning. The WWE has been grooming Reigns vs. Triple H for a year and finally it happens at WrestleMania.

Hmm how about Rollins is good to go for WM32, and HHH gives the title to Rollins, Abrose gets the win at Fastlane due to interference from Hunter, thus we are spared the booing of Reigns in the WM main event and we still get HHH vs Reigns, just not for the title.

    • PlanoStu

They must know Reigns will be booed out of the stadium. Even if he wins, someone’s got to run down and interrupt the celebrations

    • MikeLo #NewNation

I don’t think Seth should come back so early

    • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??

Rollins ain’t coming back before or after Summerslam.

    my predictions:

Kalisto vs. ADR (U.S Title Match):

KALISTO Retains the Title, ADR destroys Kalisto after the match. In my opinion the reason to put this match on Pre-show is to make these pre-shows credible and increase their viewership. I don’t think wwe will hand over the title to ADR again, and we will probably have a Fatal 4-Way at WM.

K.O. vs Dolph Ziggler (Intercontinental Title Match):

K.O. will retain the Championship, hands down. This match could be the second best match of the night. ( #1 is mentioned below)

Y2J vs. AJ Styles (The Rubber Match):

My Pick is AJ Styles. AJ is new to wwe and we all know how good is Jericho in putting over other talents. This rivalry will end here and both competitors will move forward. This is THE MATCH OF THE NIGHT.

Naomi and Tamina vs. Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch:

I think a misunderstanding between Sasha and Becky will cost them their match and them BAD will be victorious. Sasha and Becky will fight each other after the match.

Ryback, Kane and Big Show vs. Wyatt Family:

This is the match for PRE-SHOW, but anyways. The Wyatt Family will win this and interfere in the main event to cost Lesner his Title opportunity and claim that they have conquered all the titans of wwe except for Lesner, blah blah blah

Charlotte vs. Brie Bella (Divas Title Match) :

There is no way Brie is going to win this. Charlotte has the momentum going and taking the belt away from her only to give it to Brie for next couple of months will be foolish. And as far as I can remember Brie has NOT been the longest running Divas Champion, so I don’t see any reason for her to retire as Divas Champion.

Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar (# 1 Contender Match):

O Man. RR is going to win this anyway, what remains to be seen is now wwe makes this interesting. As I have mentioned above, Wyatt family will interfere and cost Lesner this match, so he is out of the picture. And, I don’t think there will be any animosity between RR and DA after the match, as they both will ge their separate ways. RR will feud with HHH and DA will challenge KO for Intercontinental Title (He didn’t get his rematch, did he?)

I can sense a fatal 4-way tag team match being setup for Tag Team Tile Match at WM, at Cutting Edge Peep Show.

  • Crazy_Victor

Since the triple threat matches are no DQ, I expect someone interferes in this match. Maybe Wyatt, maybe Taker, both… Will see. At this point, I don’t think wwe is worried about RR being booed.

  • HOAK KOGAAN

I think it would be more interesting if Sin Cara turned on Kalisto because he’s jealous of the success he had while he was away. Unlikely, but not quite as predictable.

  • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??

Wyatt Family wins the 6 man tag team match

KO retains the IC Title against Ziggler

Sasha and Becky win against Naomi and Tamina

Brie wins by either DQ or countout

AJ wins against Y2J and Y2J turns heel

Kalisto retains the US Title against Del Rio

Roman predictably wins the triple threat match.
