WWE Royal Rumble 2016 Staff Predictions

WWE Royal Rumble
It’s nearing the end of December and the Royal Rumble is finally upon us.

6 matches have been booked for the show and we here at WrestleNewz felt the urge to predict the card, like every other wrestling fan. We gave it our best attempt and here’s what the staff came up with.

Don’t forget to add your own predictions in our comments section. Let’s see if anyone correctly predicts all 6 matches. If that happens, let’s talk about a job.

Royal Rumble play by play coverage is being handled by WrestleNewz and the pay per view part begins at 8 PM EST. We’ll also have the fallout, so stay tuned.

Should be a fun, hectic, wild and uncertain three hours.

Pre-Show: Darren Young & Damien Sandow vs. Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray & D-Von) vs. The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor) vs. Mark Henry & Jack Swagger

Dorathy: Mark Henry and Jack Swagger. They are the only team that really makes sense to win. I guess they are all jobbers at this point, with The Dudleys more focussed within the tag team division. I’d love Young and Sandow to win, purely to see Sandow in the Rumble, but he really has no real shot of winning the RR, so I guess I should just be happy with the fact that he is appearing in the pay-per-view in some form. With Henry’s size, and the fact that Swagger has been on RAW lately, they just seem like the two likely to win.

John: This one just seems like an odd match, given that it’s tag teams vying for the chance to move on to the Rumble. But, I suppose there have been worse matches. Bubba should find his way into the Rumble, but in this instance I am taking Swagger and Henry.

Joseph: Dudley Boyz. I like how the WWE is making these eight wrestlers compete for a precious Royal Rumble spot. It should be either the Dudley Boyz or Mark Henry & Jack Swagger as the other two teams don’t consist of major names. I’m selecting the team with more experience.

Tag Team Championship: New Day vs. The Usos (Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso)

Dorathy: The Usos. This really could go either way, but with the bad blood between Woods and Jericho recently, there may be a good chance that Y2J interferes in this match, helping the Usos win, and potentially strengthening a feud between him and The New Day/Woods.

John: As much as I want to see a change, I strongly doubt this is when we get it. New Day, whether you love them or not, are over. The Usos may be likable, but now doesn’t feel like the time or place for a title change. Look for the trio to retain yet again.

Joseph: New Day. While New Day don’t need the tag titles to get over, I see them keeping the gold until WrestleMania 32. At that point, the Dudley Boyz will win the tag titles as they continue to cement their legacy.

Divas Championship: Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch

Dorathy: Becky Lynch. I’m hoping to see Ric Flair try to interfere, but Lynch overcoming the odds to become the new champion. The divas division deserves a true heroine to lead the pack, and I believe that Lynch can do just this. She’s built a tremendous amount of steam, and now it is time for her to shine. REALLY excited about this match!

John: While it would make an abundance of sense to have Charlotte retain, I am really liking Becky’s chances here. However, because The Dirtiest Player In The Game is going to be ringside, I have a bad feeling that, while Becky will win, it will be by way of a DQ, so no title change.

Joseph: Charlotte. The WWE is high on Charlotte and she’s keeping the Divas Championship for the foreseeable future. I wouldn’t be surprised if she holds the belt for an entire year, surpassing Nikki Bella’s record.

United States Championship: Alberto Del Rio vs. Kalisto

Dorathy: Kalisto. Perhaps it is wishful thinking of my part. Kalisto has won over many WWE fans, including me, thanks to his high-flying moves and heart in the ring. Here’s hoping he pulls out a win and gets a solid run with the U.S. title.

John: As shocking as Kalisto’s win was, I was just as shocked that he lost the belt in the same week in which he won it. So, come Sunday’s Rumble, no outcome should shock. Right? I really think Kalisto shocks us yet again and takes the belt back. And if that happens, what i would really like to see happen is either a 2 out of 3 falls match, or a new championship series where it’s best of 7, running on concurrent RAWs and Smackdowns. Because regardless of who wins, this series has been really captivating. Give me Kalisto for the win here.

Joseph: Alberto Del Rio. I’m all for Kalisto regaining the United States Championship, but the WWE would rather push Del Rio as their top star from Mexico. I feel the quick title changes were due to John Cena’s injury and Sin Cara getting injured. Kalisto stole the show at TLC, so the WWE awarded him with a very brief title reign.

Last Man Standing Match for the Intercontinental Championship: Dean Ambrose vs. Kevin Owens

Dorathy: Kevin Owens. I really feel this could go either way, and I’d be happy if either man wins. It’ll be a great match, regardless.

John: This one was a hard one for me to predict, because it really could go either way. I hadn’t expected Owens to lose it to Ambrose, but I can totally see Ambrose dropping it Sunday-and perhaps working up to a much bigger match, suitable for WrestleMania. Like say, a Hell In A Cell match. I am going to say Owens takes this one.

Joseph: Dean Ambrose. This one is tough to call, but I’m going with the idea that Chris Jericho turns heel in the near future. That way, Jericho can feud with Ambrose heading into WrestleMania 32 as he looks to break his own record for the most intercontinental reigns. The storyline was teased at Night of Champions and will conclude at WrestleMania.

WWE Championship: 2016 Royal Rumble Match

Dorathy: Roman Reigns. This is such a wildcard match to begin with and so hard to call: especially when you think that really anyone could be a surprise entrant, and the WWE could actually go the route of throwing a huge wrench in their plans and go with said wildcard (AJ Styles, a cleared Daniel Bryan). There is also a huge possibility that Triple H could win – although it will be no surprise when enters the Rumble. But for now, I guess I’ll predict that Roman Reigns will win. They are stacking the cards against him with placing the title on the line, and giving him entrant number 1. If the idea is to show how strong his persona is, than giving him the win, seems like the way to go.

John: For this one, I give more than one prediction. My final four? Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Alberto Del Rio and Bray Wyatt. If Reigns doesn’t at least make it this far, it may be quite the stunner. That being said, of this foursome, I expect one of the heels to be eliminated, if not both. And at some point, one or both of those eliminated heels will take umbrage to having been heaved over, and will return the favor by grabbing Reigns and pulling him out. Winner, and new champion? Brock Lesnar.

Joseph: Triple H. I was thinking Brock Lesnar for the past six months, but that feeling as passed. Not sure why. There’s always next year for Lesnar, while others can benefit more from the win. Making Roman Reigns the number one entrant throws another twist into the match. I see Reigns making it to the final four before Triple H enters at 29 or 31 (Vince McMahon would add him as an extra entrant to screw over Reigns). This sets up Fastlane, where Reigns must earn his WrestleMania 32 title shot. All of this is done to help Reigns get over with the fans;  not because Triple H needs another title to his name.

I am so confused..first you told me that you didn’t know who was booking TNA’s POP shows and I would think someone running a sit would either know that or easily find out and now basically what you’re telling me is that you don’t read the articles on your site????? days ago right here Jim Ross had his comments and one of the things he said was that HHH should be the 31st person in the rumble
not that I am being confrontational with you right now but I am really addled that someone in your position says that..isn’t part of a moderator’s job checking and moderating what goes on here? which means they have to read everything that posted here?

ps by the way the article was posted january 20th by ravens under JR blogs which is 4 days after the post and at least 2 or 3 after I discussed it at length..so good guess I also have 2 guesses for you..the broncos will beat the pats by 2 points and the panthers will slaughter the cards…NA just a guess
