Sunday night, Billboard held the 2013 rendition of their annual Music Awards show from Las Vegas, Nevada. While this site is not one that delves into music, something happened Sunday night that has to be addressed. Emerging R&B star Miguel gave a new meaning to the phrase, “the leg drop heard around the world.” While performing his hit song, Miguel leaped in the air from one part of the stage to another with hilarious results. This 7-second video, with appropriate Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler voice-overs, provides clarity:

Miguel took the incident in stride, mentioning later on Twitter that he was merely caught in the moment and even found the girl and did interviews with her after the show, but he also inspired a viral hit. The hilarious incident sparked the phrase, “Did Miguel,” which was trending worldwide Sunday night, and has become a viral hit—at least the videos that Billboard hasn’t taken down yet. If there was a Botchamania for awards shows, a still frame from this vid would be the cover photo for the website.

Miguel’s limited leaping ability revealed a skill that was previously unknown. His leg drop technique is picture perfect and his execution was flawless, but the girl no-sold the hell out of it. At barely 5’0” and with a small frame, the world of professional wrestling and Miguel probably collided Sunday night for the first and last time. Suspend your disbelief for a little, while we take a light-hearted look at the other musicians who wouldn’t be a fit for the wrestling world. (Neither as a talent, nor as a manager)

Axel has another big supporter – The Rock. Rock and Axel trained together to prepare for Rock’s most recent WWE pay-per-view matches.

- WWE is very serious about preventing concussions right now. Due in part to the Dolph Ziggler concussion, talents at Extreme Rules were told to be very careful and stay away from their opponents heads.

- For those wondering, Triple H is fine and the angle at the end of last night’s RAW was the beginning of what appears to be a concussion storyline.

The idea right now is that the McMahon family will be brought into the storyline eventually. Triple H will likely be off WWE TV for a while and when he returns, Stephanie McMahon and Vince McMahon will try and talk him out of ever wrestling again.

At Extreme Rules on Sunday, Vince McMahon was telling people he had something big planned for RAW and apparently the Triple H angle was it.

There’s more to the world of pro wrestling than the rumbling giant known as the WWE and the growling hound known as TNA. In fact, there’s a ton of indy stuff out there – stuff you might see if it came to the high school gymnasium or Elks Lodge in your town, but more often than not stuff you’d only hear about in passing, or not at all. Which doesn’t mean it isn’t sometimes worthwhile. Heck, sometimes it’s even worth a slideshow.

Evan “Slamminphotos” Arnow photographs indies in the New York/New Jersey area, and this past Saturday was in Queens for a Pro Wrestling Syndicate show. The following pics and captions are his. And if you’re wondering why there seems to be about 50 people in the audience, Arnow had this to say: “They usually draw a sellout. They have better crowds in New Jersey for sure – at least 1,000 if not more a show.”

2 Legends went 1 on 1 with Marty Jannetty and Flash Funk at PWS.

- Mark Henry may be returning as a babyface. As seen on the Extreme Rules post-show, Henry left the trainers room and said he was going home. There has been some talk for months about turning Henry face.

- At Sunday’s pay-per-view, Vince McMahon was being very secretive, to even the WWE producers, about where he wanted to go with the Ryback and John Cena angle.

- It appears Brock Lesnar has been written off WWE TV for the time being. Paul Heyman noted on RAW last night that Lesnar has fulfilled his obligations to WWE. Lesnar is expected to be back in time for SummerSlam.

- Several WWE stars went on Twitter and commented on Michael McGillicutty being re-packaged as Curtis Axel on RAW last night:

Chris Jericho: “Proud & excited for the debut of #CurtisAxel! He’s been waitin for this his whole life. Somewhere Mr Perfect is smiling his mischievous grin”

Curt Hawkins: “Couldn’t be happier for the former @WWEMcGillicutty …& don’t worry about me guys. Nobody has ever refered to me as “Curtis”. I’m ok. #RAW”

Howard Finkel: “Curtis Axel has become a WWE household name over the last 15 min.. Opportunity knocks, and I think that he’ll open the door and embrace it”

Ezekiel Jackson: “Curtis axel… Kid deserves it… Congrats bud”

Tyson Kidd: “Curt Axel has some amazing music. Natural from day 1, he doesn’t know his own potential. He can go in the ring #Raw”

Dolph Ziggler: “genuinely proud of @WWEMcGillicutty go get em, kid! (curt axel)”

Mick Foley: “I think @RealCurtisAxel has a real shot at getting over. Otherwise, the master (@HeymanHustle) wouldn’t be guiding him”

The Bella Twins: “Everything Paul touches turns to gold…. We see money in Curt Axel ???????? #RAW”

Lance Storm: “Anyone who thinks Curt Axel as new @HeymanHustle guy is a miss, doesn’t understand building to the future. #RAW”

Paul Heyman: “I always wanted to manage @RealCurtisAxel’s father. A better-than-Perfect debut tonight! @WWE #RAW”

Ryback comes out of the back of an ambulance after it pulls into the arena. He announces that he will face John Cena at Payback in an ambulance match and then goes off on a rant.

^This was Ryback’s best promo thus far, but that isn’t saying much. I’m looking forward to their rematch. Good opening.

It’s announced that Paul Heyman will reveal his newest client tonight.

^PLEASE tell me that Rob Van Dam is coming back! Do I sound like a mark there? Only a bit…

Chris Jericho and The Miz defeat Wade Barrett and Fandango. Fandango dances on the outside with Summer Rae while Jericho finishes off Barrett and Miz applies the figure four for the victory.

^Good tag tag team match. It’s the first time we’ve seen Fandango join forces with anyone, and my guess is that it will probably be the last time he teams with Wade Barrett. I liked the scenario here because it shows that Fandango is an equal opportunity heel who doesn’t care about anybody. I like the creativity here for the tag match, but I’d like it even more if it meant Wade Barrett is going to have a serious rivalry with the IC Title involved.

Jericho dances with Summer Rae after and spins her in for a kiss, but then pushes her away and mocks her.

^This was typical Jericho being Jericho. I loved it! Summer Rae also sold it well; that girl has a bright looking future in WWE!

Fans get to vote on who Jack Swagger will face tonight: R-Truth, Khali, or Randy Orton. Thanks Vickie for the tough choice!

Kane and Dbry are arguing backstage about losing the tag titles. Kofi tries to calm them down.

^Another six man match? Oh hell yeah! Dbry and Kane need to split sooner rather than later, but I’m not sure what WWE would do with them if they did.

Sheamus defeats Titus O’Neil in a one on one match.

^Nice to see Sheamus get another win here. I’m surprised his feud with Mark Henry didn’t carry over tonight. Decent match, but Titus O’Neil could be doing more in the mid card if WWE cared about those titles a bit more.

Paul Heyman introduces his newest client, Michael McGillicutty, but he’s been repackaged as Curtis Axel(a spin off both Curt and Larry the Axe Hennig’s names). Triple H interrupts.and has words for Heyman. Axel mouths off and Hunter knocks him down. Hunter says he will face Axel tonight and kick Heyman’s ass afterwards.

^How do I describe my excitement right now for the repackaging and push of Joe Hennig? I can’t, so I’ll just tell you how THRILLED I am to be witnessing the push of younger talent on WWE TV right now! Great segment, and nice to see Hunter’s willingness to step in the ring with the young buck.

Big E. Langston defeats Alberto Del Rio after a distraction by AJ Lee.

^Big E. continues to impress. Good match, and good finish for the heel. Something tells me Langston will be a strong candidate for winning Money In The Bank this year. How the hell does this guy get over so easily? Well, the simple answer is that he was partnered with Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee, and thus being in top storylines made him relevant. Perhaps WWE should’ve done this with other guys like Antonio Cesaro. Del Rio losing doesn’t hurt because AJ helped, and I’m anxious to see what sort of match he and Ziggler put on for the World Title.

Layla goes one on one with AJ Lee. AJ wins the short match.

^AJ is great. This one was too short to matter much, but I still expect to see her holding the Divas Championship in the near future.

Cody Rhodes defeats Zack Ryder in a short match.

^Good for Rhodes! This guy has been almost buried lately, so any win he gets is worth something to me. Part of me wonders if his last name is why he gets held back so much. After getting the big rub from Booker T in late 2011, he’s done almost nothing in terms of being booked. What’s up with that?

Ryback attacks Zack Ryder after the match and tosses him in the ambulance. The ambulance pulls away.

^Nice preview of Ryback dominating an ambulance match, but I still don’t think he’ll be able to take the WWE Title from John Cena this year. There’s a number of guys lined up to face Cena, and I don’t think Ryback is going to carry the gold just yet.

The Shield comes out and brags about all the damage they’ve caused in WWE. They take on Team Hell No and Kofi Kingston in a six man tag team match. The Shield wins the match when Reigns spears Kane and gets the three count.

^Another great wrestling match involving these guys! They just continue to be so dominant and booked to be unstoppable. Part of me wonders if WWE will bring up other guys from developmental to challenge them and eventually end their streak(or turn on one another to add more Shield members).

Triple H is told by a trainer that the doc doesn’t think he should wrestle tonight. Hunter says if the doctor doesn’t like it, then he can seek employment elsewhere.

^You can just see where this is going in terms of Hunter’s ‘health.’

Natalya accuses Cody Rhodes of being Kaitlyn’s secret admirer. It turns out not to be him after Kaitlyn checks his phone.

^I was hoping it was Cody Rhodes too, but it seems more likely it’s the Bellas or AJ setting her up. Maybe my hope that it’s Big E. will still come true!

Jack Swagger goes one on one with Randy Orton(as voted for by WWE universe on WWE app). Randy Orton defeats Jack Swagger with an RKO.

^Long match! I didn’t say it was epic, but it was certainly solid on all levels. Orton should be chasing top gold with guys like Del Rio and Swagger, but the problem with WWE is that they’ve developed so many top guys that the depth of the main event scene is as large as its ever been. What do you do to keep it interesting? My suggestion is to develop rivalries based on random things like attacks and double crosses. As long as we’re entertained with good wrestling matches, who cares how it’s done?

Curtis Axel goes one on one with Triple H. The match is stopped when Triple H starts to have trouble standing and moving around. The show ends with Hunter falling all over himself around ringside.

^Axel looked good, but the match was cut short before any real story developed. I really hope we see a rematch at Payback or Summerslam. I honestly think I was more excited for this main event on Raw than any other so far in 2013. Great ending. Hunter’s ‘injury’ allows them to promote this match for one of the pay per views in the future.

Let’s sum this one up: Lots of great wrestling(Del Rio/Langston, Orton/Swagger, six man match, tag team match), some good wrestling(Sheamus/O’Neil, Rhodes/Ryder, Divas), new character introduced(Axel), and rivalries developed/fueled. I’d call this a damn good edition of Monday Night Raw! I’ll be back with Jee-S early Saturday with the rundown! Until next time, you’ve been ThunderStruck!

- WWE announced that Kofi Kingston will get his United States Title rematch on this Friday’s SmackDown against Dean Ambrose.

- After Monday’s episode of Raw went off the air, trainers continued to check up on Triple H. Triple H was asked if he remembered anything from the match, and he said his entrance. The trainers asked him if he knew what day it was, and he didn’t reply. They then proceeded to pick Triple H up and escort him to the backstage area.

Paul Heyman and Curtis Axel left the ring once trainers started checking on Hunter.

The first Raw after Extreme Rules opened with a wailing siren, but thankfully it didn’t signal the return of Scott Steiner. Instead, Ryback drove an ambulance directly in the arena and delivered a promo from its rooftop that immediately began hyping the next pay-per-view, Payback. In full-on heel mode now (“I don’t give a damn what any of you think anymore!”), he challenged John Cena to an ambulance match. It was an unexpected way to open an episode of Raw, which had a few more surprises up its sleeve. Here’s a look at the ups, the downs and the sideways swerves of an entertaining episode of Raw.

Best Match: Six-man tag matches are rarely spectacular, since they have the tendency to become convoluted and cluttered. But the showdown that pitted The Shield against Team Hell No and Kofi Kingston featured some spectacular action and physical storytelling. The match opened with Kofi Kingston and Dean Ambrose engaged in a lightning-quick series of combinations and reversals. Then Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan delivered the kind of hard-hitting action that wouldn’t be out of place on a Ring of Honor show. It was an exciting 22-minute battle that featured some of the most talented young wrestlers in the world (and Kane).

Worst Match: Layla and AJ Lee squared off in what was actually a better-than-average Divas match. They ably dished out some respectable action, which was capped off by AJ’s fantastic new finisher, the Black Widow. Even so, it was a quick and ultimately pointless dollop of filler, as Divas matches often are.

Surprise of the Night: Paul Heyman’s announcement of the newest “Paul Heyman guy” revealed someone nobody was expecting: a repackaged Michael McGillicutty, now dubbed Curtis Axel. The arrival of Heyman’s new protege got a deflated reaction from the live audience, but it had an interesting twist: WWE finally stopped hiding the fact that McGillicutty/Axel is the son of Curt “Mr. Perfect” Hennig and grandson of Larry “The Axe” Hennig. The arrival of Triple H during the segment seemed to indicate a mammoth push (or quick burial) for the newbie.

LOL Moment of the Night: The opening match of the show was one of the most peculiar and entertaining tag bouts of recent memory. Most of the entertainment came from Fandango, who decided to abandon partner Wade Barrett in the middle of the match, utter his own name into a microphone, and then dance with Summer Rae at ringside while Barrett got pummelled. The punchline came when Fandango darted off into the crowd (apparently tackling a fan in the process), and Jericho wooed Summer Rae with some fancy footwork before jilting her at ringside.

Logic Fail of the Night: It was intriguing to see Curtis Axel revealed as the new “Paul Heyman guy,” and great to see that WWE is acknowledging his impeccable wrestling lineage as heir of the Hennig clan. But since Heyman boasted about Axel’s wrestling bloodlines and pedigree, why didn’t WWE just let Axel go by his real name, Joe Hennig? Surely it resonates more strongly than any made-up monicker.

Tweets of the Night:

Curtis Axel has become a WWE household name over the last 15 min.. Opportunity knocks, and I think that he'll open the door and embrace it
— Howard Finkel (@howardfinkel) May 21, 2013

Michael Cole's #Raw script: "WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app, WWE app."
— Kayfabe News (@KayfabeNews) May 21, 2013

I applaud @heymanhustle for bold, outside the box choices in #CurtisAxel..and fashion.

Congratulations to @tripleh for breaking his own record by burying Curtis Axel during his debut segment. #RAWTonight
— WWE Creative Humor (@WWECreative_ish) May 21, 2013

Commentary Line of the Night: ”Kid’s got a set!” In those four quick syllables, JBL lauded newcomer Curtis Axel for having the cahones to stand up to Triple H. It’s was simpler, more efficient way to praise Axel’s “testicular fortitude.”

Jobber of the Night: Here’s a hint: he has new tights and a new hairstyle, but he’s doing the same jobs as ever. Zack Ryder managed to put up some offense against Cody Rhodes — not much, but more than usual — before getting pinned as expected. But Ryder earned his real jobber paycheck by becoming Ryback’s crash test dummy after the match. He suffered a violent powerbomb and a Shell Shocked before Ryback tossed his limp body into the back of a waiting ambulance.

WTF Moment of the Night: Keen-eyed viewers might have spotted a creepy horse’s head at ringside. For those who missed it, check out the screenshot below. WTF indeed.

Upset of the Night: With a distraction provided by AJ Lee, Big E Langston pinned former World Champion Alberto Del Rio. It was by far the most prominent singles victory in Langston’s burgeoning career, and an important milestone for him. As JBL expressed it: ”I don’t care what you do — you get a pinfall against Alberto Del Rio, that’s huge!”

Crowd Sign of the Night: There was a disappointing lack of clever signs in the crowd at Raw (and no amusing typos like the sign at Extreme Rules that read “Jhon Cena”). But there was a guy in the third row who held up what looked like a blank sheet of letter-sized paper. Either it was the most useless sign ever, or he was helping a WWE camerman perform a white balance.

Crowd Chant of the Night: “Daniel Bryan! Daniel Bryan!” It wasn’t the most original or amusing chant we’ve ever heard, but it was hugely appropriate, given Byran’s show-stealing performance in a six-man tag match against The Shield. Bryan is arguably the hardest worker and the best pure wrestler in WWE today, and the Kansas City crowd acknowledged it with rousing chant.

Overall lowlights: Incessant entreaties from Michael Cole to download the WWE smartphone app; a ridiculous “vote” for Jack Swagger’s opponent (with only one viable candidate); some serious lapses in logic (even by WWE standards).

Overall highlights: an outstanding six-man tag match pitting The Shield against Team Hell No and Kofi Kingston; an unpredictable and intriguing addition to Paul Heyman’s stable, a main event that nobody would have ever predicted (with an equally unpredictable ending).
