- The UFC has cut two fighters from their light heavyweight roster, as Tim Boetsch and Mike Ciesnolevicz were both released from their contracts this past week.
Boetsch had an impressive octagon debut, as he fought at UFC 81 on just ten days notice as a substitute for Tomasz Drwal. Boetsch made quick work of David Heath, but then went 1-2 in subsequent UFC appearances. Most recently, he suffered a decision loss to Jason Brilz at UFC 96. Ciesnolevicz also made his UFC debut as a late replacement, taking Justin McCully’s place in a heavyweight match-up with Neil Grove at UFC 95. Ciesnolevicz won that fight via heel hook, but was then defeated at his natural weight class when he was stopped by Tomasz Drwal at this past Saturday’s Ultimate Fighter Finale. Ciesnolevicz also failed to make weight for the fight, coming in two pounds over the light heavyweight limit.
- UFC’s Ultimate 100: Greatest Fights debuts on July 5th at 9PM ET. Spike and UFC have picked the top 181 bouts, and if you go to SpikeTV.com, you can vote for each fight and help shape the top 100. The show will run in the 9PM timeslot during the week, and then, on July 11th, Spike will show UFC’s Ultimate 100: Greatest Fights in a 5-hour marathon running up to UFC 100.
- It is being reported by Ticketmaster that the Limp Bizkit concert that was to take place at the Mandalay Bay Beach in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Friday, July 10 for the UFC 100 weekend event has been canceled. No reason was given for the cancellation, and it is unlikely that the UFC will be able to find a replacement on such short notice.
