Brooke Hogan Wedding: A Review

So TNA has decided to dabble in wedding storylines with Brooke Hogan and Bully Ray, an angle that has virtually come out of nowhere.

Bully Ray has been rather impressive since splitting from his longtime tag partner Devon and it felt like TNA was toying with the idea of giving him a world title push, but the Hogan family continues to smother the promotion.

Brooke isn’t a wrestler or a manager. Her role since the summer had been general manager of the TNA Knockouts. She wasn’t great at it, though her TV time was short and it made her bearable. Now, she is cutting into the wrestling too much with a wedding that went 30 minutes. Even the WWE doesn’t use that much time for any wedding storyline that actually has buildup. This wedding came from nowhere with a week’s notice.

Going into the wedding, I debated not watching as I didn’t want to be responsible for increasing their ratings for the segment. But I gave in. It was clear that the wedding wasn’t going to happen. TNA tried to make the whole experience seem legitimate through social media, but who would believe that an ECW original, in his 40’s, was going to marry the 24-yearold and become a Hogan? It felt like a Jerry Springer episode – and it would have been if Nick Hogan or Linda Hogan showed up. Imagine if the entire divorce between the two was staged for all these years? That would be dedication.

Throughout the show there was no appearance by the Aces & Eights, so it only made sense that they would spoil the wedding. The only real importance of the angle was Taz turning heel and joining the renegade group. I didn’t see the turn coming until he took the microphone.

That’s the way TNA does booking. Everything is so random that it’s shocking. Even though the stable has been around for the better part of half a year, their purpose hasn’t been made public. They are a group of ex-WWE wrestlers with no direction. In that sense I guess Taz works, as they have a mouthpiece now.

It’s like that we’ll have to endure several more months of appearances by Brooke until she gets tired of the wrestling business and goes back to making reality TV or music.

The tension between Hulk Hogan and Bully Ray will continue to grow until the leader of this group comes forward. It could be anyone, including a Hogan family member, or Bully Ray himself. The fans will just have to deal with the Hogan’s nonsense for a little bit longer. Hopefully, the wedding was a huge moment in the storyline and not just used to turn Taz, currently a commentator, into heel.

I don’t think TNA knows where this storyline is headed – and they continue to circle the drain with pointless plot turns until the angle ends.
