– R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, David Otunga and Santino Marella react to events from Monday’s Raw SuperShow on this week’s episode of Backstage Fallout
– Ring of Honor releases a two-disc DVD set today on CM Punk entitled The Summer Of Punk.
The synopsis reads: “For three months in the summer of 2005, Punk shocked Ring of Honor fans & officials alike and it all began one night in June when ROH gathered to bid farewell to one of their own as Punk challenged for the ROH World Title one final time. What happened that evening kicked off three months of chaos as Punk took the World Title hostage and left ROH scrambling to find the man he would dethrone him. Be it Roderick Strong, Samoa Joe, or Christopher Daniels, they each faced off with Punk in hopes of reclaiming the title for Ring of Honor. They were three of the most exciting, unpredictable, chaotic months in ROH’s history, and they have since come to be known as “The Summer of Punk.”
Here’s capitalizing off of CM Punk’s current popularity, that is actually great. When TNA did it, the fact that Punk’s time in TNA was miniscule made it unnecessary to watch. With ROH, especially just focusing on his 2005 Summer, it’s smart.
Speaking of Summer. 2005, ROH champion. 2006: debuted in WWE’s ECW. 2007, by the very very end of it, wins ECW title. 2008: wins world title. 2009: wins world title twice, engages in entertaining feud with Jeff Hardy. 2010: nothing. 2011: becomes the most popular superstar today, wins WWE title, and had an epic match with John Cena.
So, for the most part, Summer has been kind to CM Punk.
