Backstage Update on WWE, Foley and Vince...

- Mick Foley’s contract with the company expires at the end of the month and the fact that he did not appear at the SummerSlam pay-per-view appears to be a sign that he is not long for the company. The original plan was for Foley to appear at the show as part of the Undertaker vs. Edge match.

Two weeks before SummerSlam, a source close to the situation estimated that while there was a 50/50 chance of Foley returning to WWE after the pay-per-view, he was a lock to appear at the show. Likewise, Foley told friends that he would be at SummerSlam in some capacity. He even noted that if he did not agree to a new contract, he was happy that his run was concluding with a hot storyline.

Given Foley’s excitement, one can surmise that Vince McMahon made the decision to pull the plug on Foley at SummerSlam and to treat his television angle with Edge as his blowoff. Vince mentioned to the writers during a meeting last week that they should not consider Foley for anything creatively moving forward. There’s still a chance that a last minute agreement could be hammered out, but it appears both sides are playing hardball and that Foley’s run with WWE will conclude at the end of the month.

Foley is represented by the Gillespie Agency - the same company that represents Ric Flair. He was also up for the lead role in a television pilot when he was approached by McMahon about taking over the Smackdown role. Foley has told friends that he will become a free agent on September 1. No word on whether there is a non-compete agreement included in the deal.
