Chris Benoit Biopic to Be Filmed in 2012

SRG Films has announced that the company’s first film will be “Crossface,” a biopic about Chris Benoit. The film, which will be based on the book “Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry,” is tentatively scheduled for release in 2013. The official press release is below:

“Crossface”, a biographical thriller, delves into the pressures WWE superstar Chris Benoit faced throughout his wrestling career as the combination of drug-use, depression, and head trauma became increasingly impossible for him to handle. The true story made headline news in 2007 when Chris murdered his wife and young son before taking his own life.

SRG Films head Dale Alexander Carnegie is producing the film, while William Morris Endeavor (WME) is on board to package the project. Former Weinstein Company staffer, Sarah Coulter, turned in the first draft of the script in mid-October.

“All of us grow up believing that wrestling is fake, but looking at the shocking number of deaths in the industry, it quickly becomes evident that there is nothing fake about the dangers of this sport,” Carnegie said. “Chris Benoit has become a poster child for everything that’s wrong with professional wrestling and Sarah’s terrific script captures his struggles and the many factors that led to the deaths of three people.”

Coulter added: “People immediately point to steroids, never thinking about the brain trauma these wrestlers can, and do, incur in their profession, nor do they consider the rigorous schedule that keeps them working even when they shouldn t be. The Benoit story is one that needs to be brought into the light.:

SRG Films, currently in talks with directors and actors, plans to begin filming in the fall of 2012.

Let us hope this biopic is less biased than the book. Just to clarify…it was NEVER proven that Benoit committed the murders. Just because there’s no evidence to the contrary doesn’t mean that it proves anything.

I don’t know if he did it or not. I don’t believe he did, honestly. But there’s just no way of knowing. People will believe what they want to believe.

  3. ‘It was NEVER proven that Benoit committed the murders’.
Are you for real? It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that when a house has 2 murdered bodies and a body that committed suicide, the suicide case was obviously guilty of the murders.

And I’m sure if Benoit got home and found his family dead, the last thing he would do is place bibles at their bodies and then kill himself.

Chris Benoit’s own father knows that Chris committed the murders, and knew more about Benoit’s mental state in his last days than anybody else. If his own father is prepared to accept that, then so should you. Get your head out of the jar and accept it, instead of coming up with deluded conspiracy theories that have little or no substance.

  5. Son of a bitch. As if The Wrestler wasn’t a depressing enough depiction of the business, now comes an even WORSE situation than The Wrestler being made into a film, except this ACTUALLY HAPPENED!

I know Ready To Rumble wasn’t that good of a movie, but even THAT didn’t make me feel so shitty about being a wrestling fan.

  7. @Peter Ballack:

Here’s the thing. Neither one of us knows for certain that he did it. Everyone “thinks” he did it based on what we know. Reality check:

    - You weren’t at the scene of the crime when it happened.

    - You didn’t see the state of the bodies in person. You’re going off of reports. Reports that often leave details out that really matter (see JonBenét Ramsey).

    - You likely don’t know the deep history behind certain people who really didn’t like Chris or Nancy.

    - The last text message he sent was not that of a person who was on the verge of murder/suicide. It was of a person who believed everything was perfectly normal – unless you subscribe to the theory that someone else sent it. Which is a distinct possibility that people don’t understand.

    - Benoit’s success was at a peak. He was slated to win the ECW title at the PPV just prior to the murders. He was over with the fans in a big way.

    - Beer bottles and cans found at the residence yet no alcohol content in any of them?

    - If Benoit was indeed affected by concussions and/or steroids he would certainly have said or done something to one of the WWE roster or office staff. NONE of them had any inkling that anything was wrong, not even Chavo or Malenko, the closest to Benoit at the time.

    - The anonymous posting on Wikipedia that just happened to reference Nancy’s death shortly after the actual event? “Coincidence”?

In other words, neither you or anyone else know for SURE what happened to them except the ones who are now dead. I don’t buy a theory unless it’s got hard evidence backing it up, otherwise I’m more inclined to believe something else.

In my opinion – he didn’t kill Nancy, and he didn’t kill the kids. A whole weekend with dead bodies? Come on.

  9. Revelated, it’s obvious that you don’t understand mental illness or the effects of brain damage. Your name is ironic. You probably don’t believe we landed on the moon either. You’re an idiot. You’re welcome.

  13. @lorcroft: @Me: You guys are more stupid than he is, not because you dont agree with his theory(I dont either) but because you’ll just insult him for having a different view and you won’t even attempt to debunk some of the points hes made.
Maybe the guy is just mistaken, maybe he got some bad information somewhere, but rather than correcting him with your vast amount of knowledge on this case, you decide to insult him. Thank you guys, you’re a gift to society.

  15. @@Me: Last time I checked this was a free country and he has a right to his opinion. Since when did the court of public opinion become the truth. You may disagree with what he says but at least he has facts to back up his opinion. Even if I don’t agree he can say what he feel and he apparently has even read the book I wonder have you?He has facts to at least make what he has to make some sense and by just belittling him it makes it sound like you belong in the caveman days.
