WWE Considering Taking Title Off CM Punk Due To Poor Ratings

F4WOnline.com reports that WWE officials are considering taking the WWE Championship off CM Punk due to ‘terrible ratings patterns’ for his weekly segments on Raw.

The matter was broached prior to Sunday’s WWE TLC pay-per-view event, which saw Punk ultimately retain the strap in a Triple Threat Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match against Alberto Del Rio and The Miz. The trend of lackluster ratings for his segments continued the following night on Raw as the program’s overrun, which saw the Straight Edge Superstar, Daniel Bryan and Zack Ryder overcame The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler, only gain 59,000 viewers.

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer analyzes: “That’s almost impossible given people tune in to see the following show, which basically meant wrestling fans must have been tuning out in droves (they were during the first half of the match but then started gaining at 11 p.m., but hardly gained anything).”

The main event garnered a 2.67 cable rating (2.55 for the first half of the bout), which Meltzer says is by far, the lowest-rated main event on Raw in 2011 and possibly the lowest since 1997 for a non-holiday show in its regular time slot.

Awesome, great, wonderful. Like when they took the title from ADR because Raw got a sub-3 rating one night between PPVs. Can’t wait for Raw CenaShow to start back up again. How about we keep Cena in the main event picture, but have him lose every once in a while? Keeps the belt on Punk, but also has Cena in the final segment of Raws.

I’m taking this with a grain of salt. The difference between Del Rio and Punk, Del Rio had only been a main-eventer on SmackDown, which is the B-show in all fairness. So when Del Rio won the title for his first real big push on Raw, that was basically his test run. And test run failed, in their eyes at least. So instead, they want to do a gradual build up with him. Punk already has had the gradual build up (understatement). A few months ago, when he was opening and closing the show with 15-25 minutes of just him talking, he was pulling in high ratings and more outsider interest than the WWE has seen in years. They’re the ones that pulled the carpet out from under him. He just needs to build up his moment again. And with his skyrocketing merch sales, I find it hard to believe that even the WWE can ignore moving forward with Punk as champion.

2 weeks ago, there were reports about skepticism within the company about who the next top heel will be. And well, with them capitalizing on the people’s differences with Cena and everything, if WWE didn’t have faith in Punk wouldn’t they instead be shitting their pants over who the next top face is going to be?

I hate to say it but they probably need to unify the titles.

They also need a better feud for Punk. I could see Miz having an awesome feud with Punk if it got personal, I gotta think what Punk says in the media about Miz would piss him off.

Aside from that if there is any justice in this world a Punk/Ziggler feud will draw.

As far as ADR goes, losing his championship match at Wrestlemania to Edge in 10 minutes took all the momentum he had going right out of him. That match was a huge mistake, he obviously should have won seeing as given Edge’s retirement there was no upside. It didn’t benefit Edge and it made ADR less credible as a champ when he finally did win it.

At this point he needs to have a midcard feud with a former champion.

I thonk Punk is in desperate need of someone to really feud with. People were comparing him to austin earlier this year, but they forget Austin was nothing without Bret Hart. Rock didn’t take off until his feud with Mankind, even Cena had JBL. Right now Punk is on top, but it’s like now what? They have a potiential feud Del Rio if they can present it right. Have John Laurinits try and screw Punk out of the title. A lot of potential and Bread and Butter if they stop paying attention to other sports and just focus on what they have. The NFL was around during the attitude era but it wasn’t a problem to WWE because they were to busy focusing on wrestling.

But seriously, if those rumors are false, and he doesn’t end up back in the WWE, you’re right and Punk’s going to need someone. Miz is my first choice (well, technically second). I’d love to see a Ziggler/Punk feud, but that’s more so just for the match itself. To do it now, the rivalry would have little heat and therefore no heart. And I’d hate to see them jump the gun and blow any potential that feud has for the future.

The Miz, though, just makes great sense for CM Punk. The backbone of Punk’s giant following right now is that people like that he is a true professional wrestler. Miz, however, is hated for the fact that he is more of the “Superstar” mold.

Again, I’d rather see Jericho, but if that should not happen, I think Punk and Miz would be the next best thing. At TLC, I sensed some chemistry between the two. Lord knows, they’re probably the two best promo cutters WWE has. Not to mention, their pretty public opinions about one another. You wouldn’t even need writers for this feud…

I don’t get it. The RAW main event this past Monday was one of the best RAW main events I’ve seen in a very long time. It was actually the one time where I wasn’t watching the clock waiting for it to be over. Punk, Bryan, and Ryder worked extremely well together, as did Ziggler, Miz, and ADR. The spots were great. It was back and forth. It was a very good match.

If this story is true and Punk loses his prominent role and they put the title back on Cena, I’m seriously going to have to stop watching.

CM Punk’s star has faded considerably in the past months but this is just another one of those cases where the WWE sabotages a guy’s push when they’re a threat to take over John Cena’s spot as the top guy in the company.

WWE toomk the momentum out of Punk, he was the most talked guy since Austin and they had a chance to get something like the attitude era again, but no, they made Cm Punk and asskisser who shakes hands with John Cena and CM Punk was awesome heel, and he was about to get better than John Cena then suddenly they make him just like anyone else face who wins the title, Vince is so old, its probably the age that starts prohibit him from doing the risky and asskicking good ol things what he did when i used to watch wrestling regulary and always talk then next day with my friends “Did you guys see RAW IS WAR last night?” but WWE is just as fucked up as todays music industry is. @ Later Marks…how was the ADR/Edge match a huge mistake! At the time, it was not known that it would be Edge’s last match! Edge did not know how serious his situation was until AFTER WrestleMania! He wasn’t going to retire yet, but with his well being in grave danger, he ended up with no choice! So that match wasn’t a mistake!

As for the current situation…Punk is the best guy to hold the title right now! He is the complete package! He can get it done in the ring, on the mic and outside the ring! As others have said, he just needs someone to feud with! And The Miz would be my first pick! I just dont want to see the belt back on Yawn Cena which is unfortunately likely where WWE will go if they take it off Punk!

Here is a better idea Vince, Keep the Title on Punk..wait it out a bit for a change. Turn Cena Heel for fuck sakes already and ACTUALLY give us some entertainment for once. We all already know the January 2nd 2012 Promo will be a flop/big disappointment…even if it is for Jericho/Taker, which I am only 50/50 on(Part of me thinks with the NWO rumours floating about…theres a 50 percent chance it could be the rebirth of the NWO. Yeah were not that lucky/unlucky) And people it is not in any shape or form and NO way in hell, Sting. Stfu about Sting rumours, He’s never ever showing up in a WWE ring. Nah, he’s too busy destroying his own career pretending to be the Joker on a half assed show.

Alright a little carried away there. There are many many things WWE could do to improve their ratings. Terrible Booking, Flopping Storylines, Horrible writing does not help the situation one bit. I mean wtf ever happened to the Anonymous RAW GM? It was one of the biggest mysteries to me and it was fucking cancelled out after nearly a year of keeping me waiting for so goddamn long. If it werent for the Rock, I would not touch this show nor its PPV’s anymore. Cena needs to change, there is your true answer WWE. He needs to turn Heel already at least until Wrestlemania, then if he goes back Face I will least be able to half ass cheer him. To us fans, Cena needs to turn Heel, While YOU WWE need to turn Face. We are all waiting.

At least CM Punk gives us a semi-legit reason to keep watching. I know WWE is doing its whole PG Crap, and it is really killing the show. Because their version is not PG…its moreso G rated with occasional PGish Swears… Can you honestly believe full grown men, fighting in a 4 squared ring, nailing one another with chairs or wtfever…without a single cuss word? LMAO. Okay dont get your panties all in a bunch, I loved the Attitude Era but it honestly doesnt need to return. I mean Ive been watching WWE since the early-mid 90′s so I came around the time of Bret Hart/HBK, and yes I was a teen in the Attitude Era and had the greatest WWE Memories with it. However it is over and done with, time to move on. TNA is 14 plus I hear….and look how good its doing…LOL.

TV-14 Does not need to come back, Remember the Good Ol’ days of PG…when Jake the Snake Roberts could cut a promo that was so chilling, so real, so unique that you could of sworn the Rating just jumped up to an R?

@Bad News Bro: Miz and Punk as one of the Main Events of Wrestlemania 28? Think I’ll pass on it lol. If I had it my way, CM Punk vs Stone Cold WM 28. I mean, hell with Rock vs Cena headlining, Triple vs Undertaker Part 3 probably and ugh I know and 100 percent am grossed on the thought of it as well lol. Why not an Austin match? If you all think about it, This Wrestlemania is technically the Attitude Era vs the PG Era, what a better time to have this match no?

And it doesnt need to be the Main Event. The Rock has the torch from Hogan, now he needs to sadly pass it to Boring ass Cena. Thats the Main Event here and thats the bottom line because I said so.
