A.W. Released By WWE, Goes On Twitter Rant

WWE announced they have come to terms on the release of A.W. (a/k/a Abraham Washington) as of August 10, 2012, weeks after the boisterous personality made a crass remark on a live program. Upon learning of the news, A.W. went on a multi-post Twitter diatribe ripping the sports-entertainment organization. He stated, “AWPromotions is no more ladies and gentlemen. Thank you for your support and hate, it’s been a great run. Now I get to do me which isn’t PG!

“@TitusONeilWWE & @DarrenYoungWWE thank you for allowing me to speak on your behalf. You guys are the best and I’m glad to call u my friends!

“I’ve offended the wrong people that taught me how to have ATTITUDE It was the #WWE that made me bold and now it has turned it’s back on me

“Let this be a lesson to up and coming talent in the WWE don’t try and be great like the Rock or Stone Cold. WWE isn’t the same…

“Just be normal shut up and be a yes man so you can collect your check and feel like your special. #SELLOUTS!!

“I remember a time when the WWE didn’t care about breaking the mold but now everyone is so afraid of their own shadow. #RemeberTheFans

“Thanks to the fans who showed me support over the whole Kobe thing and to those I upset I apologize again. Remember It’s entertainment folks.”

A.W. then indicates that his termination is tied to WWE chief Vince McMahon’s wife Linda’s pursuit of a United States Senate seat in Connecticut, which many have speculated has led the sports-entertainment organization to steer clear of any controversial matters as to not attract negative press to the campaign.

“I really do hope Linda wins that election because If not then all of this BS has been for nothing. #GoLinda!!” he wrote.

During a live WWE Raw broadcast on July 30, 2012, A.W. made a crass joke referencing NBA player Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault case in 2003 and 2004. As client Titus O’Neil tangled with Kofi Kingston in a singles match, A.W. yelled from ringside, “Titus O’Neil is like Kobe Bryant at a hotel in Colorado hotel room. He’s unstoppable!!” When Raw returned from commercial break following the bout, WWE apologized on-air via announcer Michael Cole and A.W. subsequently issued an apology via Twitter, noting that “there was no malicious intent behind the joke.” After Raw, WWE issued an official apology via TMZ.com stating that they had “taken appropriate action in the matter.”

Prior to joining the main roster this spring, A.W. was a fixture on the final episodes of ECW on Syfy with an in-ring interview segment called “The Abraham Washington Show.” He had been under contract to WWE since 2009, where he also performed for developmental promotion Florida Championship Wrestling.

Washington noted on Twitter that he would doing stand-up comedy going forward, remarking, “If you think that Kobe joke was bad wait till you hear my Vince jokes.”

AW is 100 percent right but it looks like the prime time playas are done and just when the tag divison was getting intresting again

  • xXwindsofchangeXx

I’m with AW on this one. His crack may have been ill-advised, but 10 years ago nobody would have batted an eyelash. And he’s absolutely right – this is all up to Linda and her politics obsession. WWE and its talents have no room to be edgy on the microphone because, as AW said, everyone’s afraid of her own shadow.

Regardless of what you think of AW’s talent on the mic or lack thereof here, WWE fucked up on principle – and I’m actually hoping somehow that karma comes back to bite them in the ass. I hope Linda McMahon never wins a Senate seat, because now other people’s careers are being sacrificed to further her political ambitions.

  • Jimmy

Not a shock. I said AW would probably be released after he made the rape comment.

  • Brooks

He’s right, we will never see another Rock or Austin or Attitude, no matter how much WWE shoves people down our throats.

  • jay

no more millions of dollars ,prime time players are donee. thats fucked upp!!

  • maxpower

I am not surprised, WWPG fired Bryan for choking somebody with a tie.

  • xXwindsofchangeXx

Although they did bring him back, so you have to wonder whether they’ll give AW a second shot once Linda los-I mean, the election year blows over.

  • xXwindsofchangeXx

Additionally, as much as I hate to see anyone get buried for something that’s not their fault, and as much as the PTP were starting to grow on me (might make better Faces with AW gone? It’s worth a try.) This may be a blessing in disguise. If it’s indeed DOWN WITH THE PRIMETIME PLAYERS…maybe that means it’s UP WITH REKS & HAWKINS!

  • RCmaster305

    ^PTP>>>rexs and hawkins

  • bork lazer

I cannot even begin to say how sad I am. A.w. was great. And I saw him on wwe inbox And he was really cool and nice I fucking hate the WWE so much for this,AW fit so well with the PTP,I’m pissed :@

Somewhere Tony Atlas is laughing! Seriously, though, AW could be a great stand-up comedian. He’s very quick, and has a nice delivery. Best of luck to him.

  • WrestlingHarold

It is a darn shame that the WWE is cutting its own throat by making it PG. It’s gotten boring as the story lines have gone PG. Time for the Mc Mahons to realizes that Linda senators bid is ruining what made them a name. Wake up Vince your killing your business. Send Cena on Vacation and start working on teviving it. Thought Vinnie didn’t give a crap about goverment because his attitude in the past shows it. Hey Vince this is the same goverment that wanted you jailed for life during for doing what you did. Does linda think she has a prayer in the senator position.

  • Deviln

If I was a.w I would sue the wwe! Hell, TNA is suing them and if they have the balls to sue wwe then a.w should sue those lying ass bastards!

FUCK LINDA MCMAHON! I hope that winkled up bitch lose!

    JOB CREATOR MY ASS!

  • Rg41982

All this for a senate race that she won’t win! I think they pissed off the grown fans so much if I lived where she was running I would vote against her. All that money Vince spent I would divorce Linda’s flat ass.

  • IWC AMBASSADOR

She apparently have a debate coming up! And we the iwc should invade that debate and let that woman know that

” you claim to be a job creator but you still let a man that busted his ass for years go because he made a mistake”

you talk about “be a star” and “stop bullying” but yet you pick on a man with Bell’s palsy!

IMO, this “political bullshit trip” that Linda and Vince is pulling is just a ploy to get Linda in washington so then her “hubby” can do his dirt!

    SO TO MY IWC BRETHEREN:

INVADE LINDA MCMAHON’s DEBATE!!!! And let her know that:

WE ARE NOT GONNA FALL FOR HER “trickery bullshit”!

    Pro wrestling fan!

  • Fritz

cant make new stars when you fire anybody that gets even close to entertaining.

  • todd

best of luck to aw. he was cool with the ptp. man im sick of the wwe what a bunch of sell outs. pg sucks. now they will continue to shove cena sheamus and aj down r throat

  • Mindy

Randy Orton fails wellness test 3 times – Still in WWE

A.W makes one stupid comment about rape once – Fired

  • http://wrestlenewz.com Mark Daza

One year ago, when I first saw CM Punk’s Pipe Bomb promo, I thought the PG era was done, it made him big, famous, was on a roll, won the WWE title on his way out, and I thought he was starting a revolution against the PG product but HECK no! Vinny Mac didn’t fire John Cena, must’ve manipulated his son-in-law HHH to keep the PG shit alive! Now with AW fired, people are jump shipping to watch new and improved WCW (Impact) Wrestling, Former WWE stars are being used fairly, Women’s Wrestling matters to them, but NOT WWE! What the hell happened to the wrestling show that we loved watching?! You know what? I say it’s time for CM Punk to stand up and throw Pipe Bombs @ WWE’s PG product and its PG leaders, Vince McMahon and John SuperCena

  • BSW

This is a joke right? Bullsh**. WWE needs to stop being so stupid. Im turning to tna. I am FED UP with the bull crap that wwe puts on my tv every week. 2 hours for recaps 30 minutes of promos and 30 minutes wrestling.

  • blake

it’s time for heyman to manage this guys now after brock leaves

  • Alejandro

^ Heyman is not under contract for WWE. He’s leaving after the Brock Lesnar and Triple H storyline is over with.

  • Richard

Wow! That was a dumb move by WWE. I feel sorry for the tag division now…that’s all I have got to say.

  • peter

finnaly we had a good fun manager and wwe facks it up
come on you give him a suspendsion not a realease
    faking asswhite linda mcmahon

  • Zack Ryder

That is comeplete $h!t. The PTP’s aren’t good on the mic, so AW would do all the talking for them. I loved listening to him during the matches, and throwing shoes!

This is a long shot, but this could lead to Ziggler turning face? I’ll expain…PTP’s are going to need a manager, somebody who is good on the mic. So WWE decide to put Vickie with them, but they won’t want her with a tag team, and mr mitb, so the week before she joins them, he could turn on vickie?

    ^Like I said, a long shot..

Still gutted for AW, why not head to tna, you’ll have freedom of speech! If you’re quick you’ll catch Kharma on the way!

  • http://wrestlenewz.com Mark Daza

WWE could’ve just suspended him til SummerSlam ::|

  • Jay

I wish AW didn’t go on this rant. I feel like this would of been the same situation as Daniel Bryan getting fired for choking Justin Roberts. I feel if he just was quiet and didn’t bash anyone, WWE would take hime back in December. After the Senate campaign was over.

  • Heisenberg

This guy needs to go anyways. No matter what he says or does, doesn’t mean anything. I’ve got two words for you. Your fired!

  • Heisenberg

He is entitled to voice his opinion. And so are the others. I’m just glad i don’t have to see AW’s face on WWE anymore. Good luck w/ his future endeavors.
