AJ Styles & Austin Aries Seen Highly By WWE, Original Plans

WWE
WWE is changing their thoughts on smaller stars. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter stated the reactions to AJ Styles and Austin Aries haven’t gone unnoticed by WWE officials.

The report continued how Styles was originally going to be a mid-card wrestler at best, but WWE changed their mind. Styles just pinned John Cena and Austin Aries started his first major NXT program with No Way Jose.

Good. They’ve earned their followings. In AJ’s case, he probably doesn’t have much time left to showcase his talents. They should use their time with him wisely.

Yeah, let’s not pretend Aries is a spring chicken, either. He’s about the same age, and why the hell he’s in a program with No Way Jose is beyond me. I’m not disappointed in what appears to eventually be a Samoa Joe/Shinsuke Nakamura matchup, but I was hoping to see Aries and Joe get a program. They need to s%$* or get off the pot if they’re going to bring Aries to the main roster. He’s 38 himself, and given that indy high-fliers tend to rack up a lot of mileage on their bodies, he probably doesn’t have a hell of a lot of time left.

Im disappointed with how they turned Aries heel just by punching No Way Jose. It was completely stupid timing, and very underwhelming. I think No Way has the potential to be something good, like a mid or lower card staple (his music is too catchy – he just needs to improve to live up to that hype), but when it comes to being on the level of Aries…NO WAY JOSE! (pun absolutely intended)

Jose will be a jobber soon

I’m wondering if they shouldn’t just go ahead and purge NXT of all the former indy veterans when the draft happens. The young guys they’ve been training at the PC need room to grow, and those older guys deserve better than to be stuck down there in NXT anyway. Leave maybe one or two for the young crop to work with and learn from, maybe send back one or two guys that haven’t panned out on the main roster, but Samoa Joe, Nakamura, Aries, and Balor all need to be brought up – the first three in particular, given that they’re all in their late 30s and don’t have much time left to perform at peak.

They have done more to prove that they are capable of elevating the company if given the chance. If WWE’s writers cant adapt to rising popularity of their superstars, then they should be fired. That’s why there needs to be a balance between short term and long term booking. If theres no opportunity for a guy to work his way to the top, then they are going to raise a generation of lack luster “stars” and slowly kill their own company.

Listen to Steve Austin’s podcast on Podcastone – the latest episode with Vince Russo. They talk at length about the problems with modern day WWE, including not allowing wrestlers to elevate themselves. Russo can be difficult to listen to sometimes, but there are nuggets of genius in there (much like how he booked wrestling in the past).

I won’t believe it until I hear it come out of Vince’s mouth lol
