AJ Styles Signs TNA Wrestling Contract Extension

PWInsider reports that AJ Styles and TNA has agreed to a short term contract extension. Styles’ contract was originally set to expire very shortly and both sides were said to be working on a compromise that would keep him with the company.

The report states that no one was able to comment where Styles has agreed to a short term or long term deal, but it’s clear after the events that took place on Thursday’s Impact episode that he will be with the company for a little while longer.

Allen Jones is the soul of TNA. He was flawless in his match with Roode. That moonsault from the ramp to Roode, was a thing of beauty and he landed on his feet. His dropkick is graceful, I can’t say enough about the man’s in-ring abilities.

    • Mike Smith

He is good but I don’t see either company really using him like they should. I’d still rather see him in WWE just to have new faces to match up with.

      • Daniel_P1

I agree with you there, that AJ isn’t being used in the best way that he could. But hopefully with this new push he is getting he will once again rise up and carry TNA on his back and be the champion. I don’t think we will ever see AJ in WWE, the guy truly loves TNA.

He doesn’t have a option to join WWE. They offered him contracts all the time and he always deny it. Even at the beginning of his wrestling career when he was working on the indies he was offered a contract by WWE but then again he turned it down. Due to the fact of him apparently not wanting to be away from his wife and kids and how he always think they’ll just fire him right away and that he doesn’t trust the company enough to ever sign a deal there. Just like Sting, kinda the same deal there. So he’ll probably will be stuck in TNA for at least another 6 months or so since it’s a short term contract. I’m estimating it to be around that kinda of time frame. He’ll probably use the 6 to 12 months to decide on where he wants to go to WWE, ROH, Japan or DGUSA and if it’ll affect him in anyway possible.

          • mrCpoprun

You know he did wrestle one under card match for WWE. Dont believe me look it up on YouTube. WWE said they saw no potential in him. Ha! Look at him now.

          • KO Kid! Kassius OooohNooo!

I already know he did. He wrestled several times on WWE Jakk and Heat. Along with Samoa Joe and Low-Ki but Samoa Joe and Low-Ki weren’t offered contracts only AJ styles was. Till later on when they showed abit of interest in Samoa Joe but he didn’t sign with them too only Low-KI. I follow practically every wrestlers career which is why i said that they offered him a contract at the beginning of his career and when he did matches for WWE in the early 2000’s. So yeah, but he turned them down citing that it would ruin his wife’s plans and he wouldn’t get to be with his family and that he didn’t trust the WWE and said they would’ve probably fired him anyway so he turned them down. And then later on too when he became a known name on the indies and while he was in TNA and at the top they offered him a contract again but he always refuses to sign with them for the same reasons. Right now he’s considering jump shifting to another company but he’s probably trying to play his cards right first before he’ll actually make a decision and seeing if TNA would pay him what he wants and if they don’t he’ll likely would consider joining WWE now due to him wanting to help out his family and feed them.

You seem to talk about only his Wrestling skills

      • Daniel_P1

-Wrestling skills: perfect, he is one of the best pro wrestlers in the USA today.
-Mic skills: Average, they could be better but he has improved a lot; especially after being aligned with Flair, his mic skills improved.
-Charisma: In promos, again his charisma needs work. In-ring his charisma varies but overall, its not below average.
-Outside of wrestling: Allen Jones is a true role model, he always puts his family ahead of work, he overcame a difficult past and succeeded in a little known company and he helped put it on the map.

        • Maddox

You just mentioned something that I hadn’t thought of nor anyone here did and that is that fact that outside wrestling he is a true role model. This is one department he clearly outshines Punk in

          • Trey Doss

            not really punk is straightedge

          • Maddox

Yea but sometimes his attitude towards fans is rude

          • Trey Doss

            i agree

          • Damian Starr

Being straight edge doesn’t make you an untouchable icon of how you should be

    • http://WWW.WrestleNewZ.com/ Bork Lazer Living Legend

I hate when people use wrestlers real names >:(

      • KO Kid! Kassius OooohNooo!

So do I. I respect all of them and I don’t really like it when people call them by their real names, it’s disrespectful and everyone should know that. I remember some writer on here kept writing articles about wrestlers and kept calling them by their real name it made me disgusted at how disrespectful that writer was. Just ask Raven or C.M Punk they both feel the same way.

        • Damian Starr

          A) Allen Jones= AJ and B) he used his real name in his promo on thursday

          • KO Kid! Kassius OooohNooo!

I already know AJ stands for his real life name initials. All i’m saying is it’s disrespectful to call wrestlers by their real name. Punk cut the exact same promo on Triple H calling himself by his real name instead of C.M Punk. But that’s the difference there, it’s himself who’s calling themselves by their real names. But if a fan were to walk up to a wrestler and call them by their real name or anything including on social sites. The wrestler would feel pissed off and disrespected. Just read Raven’s thought about it and how people kept calling him Scott whenever they greeted him. Or some idiots who kept calling Punk Phil like they knew him. Several others have said it themselves too. To not call them by their real life names, cause it has nothing to do with what you asked them, and has nothing to do with wrestling, or whichever place you met them or tried to talk to them anywhere. But Raven and Punk knows that the most and it’s disrespectful to them even if some decide to stay quiet that means they were disrespected and just don’t wanna answer anything and stuff.

  • Mrs. Ambrose

I am not surprised to say the least but i am glad that they came into an agreement

  • Aaron

What is so funny about this is AJ might not even see the end of the extension because, I don’t think TNA will make it another year!

  • Tyler Drummond

Well how short is how short? It could just be a couple weeks to get through the next 1 – 2 tapings. Could be a month just to get through Bound For Glory. Don’t be surprised if TNA puts the title on AJ to keep him happy. Which would be the best thing they could do anyway because AJ shouldnt have gone almost 4 years without the title anyway.

    • mrCpoprun

They did the same thing to Hardy last year at Bound for Glory because Hardy’s contract was up soon after so they gave him the title just so he would sign and to make him happy.

  • Devon

AJ is the best TNA wrestler in history

    • Mrs. Ambrose

      Not the best

      • mrCpoprun

Then who else then in the history of TNA is the best ever? Who has accomplished more than Styles.

        • Mrs. Ambrose

Samoa Joe ,Jeff Hardy, Austin Aeries etc

          • Damian Starr

Although great wrestlers they haven’t accomplished more than him though?

          • Mrs. Ambrose

Well you might be right but i still think that they are excellent wrestlers

  • Mrs. Ambrose

Well everybody can stop talking about if he choose to stay in TNA or go to the WWE we know now that he is going to stay in TNA

  • Macho Man

DUMB AJ! You should of jumped off the TNA ship before it went completely under! Now when TNA does go under (and yes when not if) if he wants to continue wrestling on a worldwide stage he’s got one option, WWE. So Vince/WWE have AJ between a rock and a hard place as far salary and contract. AJ should of used TNA as leverage for a better WWE contract.

    • Maddox

You talk like they were in a bidding war him. Maybe there was no interest from WWE and TNA offered him the best deal they could offer

      • Macho Man

With this new 3 hour Raw format and talk of a 3 hour Smackdown format they could use(in my opinion) a couple more main event type guys. AJ can in ring wrestle with anybody! He would already have a following of people and it wouldn’t take much to build his charcter. I don’t think there was a bidding war but if AJ would of become a free agent and spent a few weeks/ month away from wrestling I think WWE would of jumped on trying to bring him in. It won’t matter if he’s a main event guy in TNA, when there is no TNA to be a main event guy in! The writing is on the wall for TNA, cutting talent left and right, cutting live shows and PPV’s, ratings sinking to all time lows. I give TNA a year at the most!

        • mrCpoprun

The only issue that might impede on AJ rising in WWE ranks is that he doesn’t fit the Vince McMahon wrestling type and that could hold him back unless they really push him once he gets to the E cause you never know, he could be one of those surprise entrants in the Royal Rumble.

          • Maddox

He has better body than Punk and Bryan. I think it’s his charisma than might hold him back

  • Maddox

Why do people really want AJ to go to WWE? He doesn’t have the charisma to carry a big organisation but atleast in TNA he is a guaranteed Main Eventer unlike in WWE where he might just end up as a midcarder

    • Mrs. Ambrose

      You have a point

      • Maddox

Exactly. People seem to focus on the fact that he is an amazing wrestler and tend to forget you need more than that to succeed in WWE

        • Mrs. Ambrose

You sure do because you need the whole baggage to succeed in TNA

        • disqus_zGeoFRB0Aa

In ring abilty is as important as anything.

          • Maddox

It is but you also need charisma and good mic skills to be a top player

        • Mrs. Ambrose

          I meant the WWE

    • disqus_zGeoFRB0Aa

Dude AJ Styles can go in the ring with anyone in wwe. He is a excellent in ring performer charisma or not. Not all great wrestlers were great on the mic and not all guys who were great on the mike were great in ring performers. You say he would be mid card while he is better then the wwe’s mid carders., You think the Miz for example is better then AJ?….lol. Not even close.

      • Maddox

Dude am saying he is the face of TNA which is a good place for him to be than risk going to WWE where he might not have the same level of success. He is a great wrestler no one is arguing that fact but he need good mic skills if he wants to be at the top at WWE. Am not talkin about Wrestling skills here as there are already tons of wrestlers in WWE who has wrestling skills but don’t have the mic skills to carry them to top and unless you want AJ to risk joining those guys, I suggest he stays in TNA

  • Aaron

Word is the deal is just til BFG or shortly after!

  • Z….

Was a pretty good promo by AJ last night…
