Chris Jericho Speaks on WWE Pushing the Wrong Talent

Chris Jericho spoke with Maxim about WWE fans complaining about WWE pushing “really huge guys” who can’t wrestle.

“I don’t see it that way,” Jericho replied. “Wrestling is all about new talent and new turnaround of the stars. I could be the main event guy there for 20 years, but there’s going to have to be other guys that come into that picture or else it’s pretty boring and business will go really bad. There’s only so much Jericho or so much HHH or so much Rock people can take. So you try different guys – some of them are bigger and don’t really have the talent, they have more of the look.”

“Some guys are small and go against the traditional WWE superstar, but yet are so damn good they make it to the top – I’m talking about guys like Eddie Guerrero, or even Shawn Michaels or Daniel Bryan right now. You have guys who would never be the typical WWE superstar, but because they were so damn good, they would rise to the top of the mountain. You have to realize that if you have 60 guys on the roster, the WWE is going to try and get every one of those 60 guys to world championship level. Some of them will make it, the majority won’t, but until you try, you just never know. Everyone’s got to get a full chance, if not, why are they even there on the payroll?”

Also in the interview, Jericho talked about wrestling Ric Flair with a massive hangover, and named Shawn Michaels his best opponent. You can check it out here.

I don’t believe that everyone is pushed equally, sometimes people put on good matches, get good crowd reactions and still get stopped in their tracks half-way up the card.

Whilst other people have mediocre matches, get less of a reaction from the crowd and get pushed to the moon.

To suggest that everyone gets a chance and some people just ‘do more with it’ is felonius and a little daft when evidence to the contrary is right in front of our eyes.

I think that they push certain people because they have a lot of faith in that can be the top guys in the company for example like John Cena, Batista Triple H, Randy Orton etc.

Vince said he isn’t running a primarily wrestling company. He stresses the entertainment in sports entertainment. Which means he likes entertainers primarily. That is why Hogan became the man who made wrestling what it is. He is a horrible wrestler but he is one of the most entertaining & charismatic of all time. But guys like HBK, Bret, Austin & Brock were great entertainers as well as great wrestlers who deserved the top spot in the company
