Chris Jericho Discusses Match Quality During Last WWE Run

Chris Jericho spoke with Donald Wood about taking time away from WWE and his match quality during his last run with World Wrestling Entertainment.

“People are always putting words in my mouth I never once used the word hiatus or retirement; I’m just not working there,” Jericho said. “I don’t know if it’s a long time, if it’s a short time, forever. I’m not taking a hiatus or sabbatical, my contract was up. I have a bunch of other stuff going on. “As far as why the matches were great, I don’t know, man,” he continued. “It was just a really good roll. It was like every match was better than the last and I was just in the zone. Experience level wise, many don’t have the experience that I have and I also think outside the box when I’m putting together matches, which other guys don’t. It just seemed like every match I had clicked. There were probably a few that weren’t as good as others, but the majority of them I was really, really happy with. Some bona fide best matches I’ve had in a long time. The Rob Van Dam match on Raw and the CM Punk one at Payback, I thought those matches couldn’t have been any better.”

I hate that Jericho is basically a glorified jobber now. He pops in for a month at most works a short program with someone and then jobs to them and leaves again. Then we see the same process repeat a month or two later. At least let the guy get a win on a main stage once and while! He was/is one of the most decorated pro wrestlers ever. Lesnar&Rock do the same thing as Jericho but WWE lets them get a win here and there!

Jericho admitted many times that he doesn’t work in WWE for titles but to help younger talents get over (Punk, Ziggler, Fandango, Axel). And also for fun. He’s a legend for what he did in the past, now he doesn’t need to win more titles, do anything else or prove something more, cause he already did that.

I didn’t say he needs to win titles did I? Hell they won’t even let him win a match, let alone a title! It doesn’t help the younger talents get over if they’re beating a guy who never wins anymore. They need to give Jericho some wins to reestablish his credit with the younger fans. There’s no shame in having younger talents lose to Jericho, a future HOF’er! Then beat him later down the line. Doesn’t seem to “creative” when you ALWAYS already know the outcome!
