Future Plans for Roman Reigns, Backstage Talk on HBK, More

– WrestlingFigures.com spoke with Rob Van Dam and Kaitlyn at Ringside Fest 2013 in New York City last week:

– For what it’s worth, there are still many people within WWE that believe Shawn Michaels will wrestle one more match. They insist that despite Shawn and others denying it, something is going on regarding a return down the road.

– As seen on RAW, WWE did subtle teases for a Roman Reigns babyface turn. It’s going to happen but probably not for several months. The long-term idea is that Reigns splits off as a big babyface and the new feud with The Wyatt Family vs. CM Punk and Daniel Bryan is the first step towards making The Wyatts the new six-man main event unit.

I can see why Roman Reigns will be a big star in WWE but truth is Dean Ambrose is the best of the group

I’m not sure if all three will become top-card champions, but I don’t see anyone in this stable where I go, “Oh, he won’t amount to much as a singles guy.” It’s all going to be down to how WWE decides to book them, and that’s where I’m worried about potential hiccups because they all have qualities that WWE could very well use as excuses to keep them out of the main event.

I love Dean Ambrose’s mic ability, but I don’t see anything distinctive in his wrestling style. That’s not to say that he can’t wrestle, because I know he can, but Reigns has his power and explosiveness, Rollins has his speed and agility. I guess you could say that Ambrose is probably the most brutal striker of the three, but I feel like I might be reaching on that one. That said, Ambrose makes a great antagonist, and I think he could also be an anti-hero, underdog face if pressed into service on that side. He’s got good size but he’s not built the way WWE likes to see their top-card guys. He’s going to flourish on the mic, and my concern is that they don’t give him enough of an avenue to do so when he’s still in the midcard.

My main worry about Reigns is that they push him too quick. I could see Reigns with an extended IC Title reign (no put intended) but if they bump him to the top too quickly, he’ll get the pushback from the crowd and I don’t know if he’s got enough mic skills to fight through something like that.

As for Rollins, he’s the smallest, but not too small. He’s equal in size to CM Punk, and a bit taller than Bryan, so he’s coming into WWE at the right time. He may not have had a prayer 5 years ago, but in 2015 and following, he might have a good shot. He may also sell far too well for his own good. I still think that’s the one prevalent thing that’s caused Dolph Ziggler to hit the glass ceiling, even more than the backstage politics. Dolph makes getting his ass kicked look extremely convincing, which in theory, is a good thing to have as a wrestler. Problem is, in WWE, if you look convincing getting your ass kicked, they’re going to keep booking you to get your ass kicked.

Interesting theory on selling well being Ziggler’s handicap.

Guys like RVD, the Rock, Flair, HBK (older HBK) and others sold well and got to the
upper ranks of the WWF/WWE–although Flair’s selling was a part of his
shtick. After hearing your stance on Ziggler’s lack of a push, what would you say to people who would say that past top stars have sold well too?

        • xXwindsofchangeXx

I’d ask how big those guys were, what era they wrestled in, and how many established stars were already at the top of the food chain before they came along.

    • tt2000

      That’s debatable.

    • Bignic

Lets remember who Regins is related to. He’s the Uso’s and the Rock’s cousin. That’s why Roman.

      • 1MC3

No, it’s not really that…If that’s the case, he would be world champ right now. Uso’s would be tag champs, Tamina would be divas champ. Just cause they’re related to The Rock doesn’t mean anything. Roman will be a big star because he’s what WWE wants in a “star” , just like Batista. But Roman will be bigger than him because he’s way younger than Batista was when he broke out out of Evolution and Roman is better than Batista.

    • Mrs. Ambrose

      I agree.

  • HDZ

It sounds good. My ideal will be, Reigns splits off and down the road he gets attack by the Wyatts and it keeps happening and then we see Dean and Rollings do the save for old times sake. Eventually, leading up to feud and face them at WM30. Like I said, that’s my opinion; I really didn’t want them to split as they have become my favorite stable so far, but good things need to come to an end. We’ll just see how WWE handles them, hopefully in the right way.

    • tt2000

I can see that happening but in two or three years. They shouldn’t break up the Shield to have them reunite after a month or two.

Have you guys downloaded the WWE App?

    • Just…Joe. from C.P.

      WWE has an App?

    • Alpha_Omega

      Michael Cole, is that you???

  • Devon

Hbk better stay retired. His 26 match wit taker is one if the best and most important matches ever. If he returns it will ruin the legacy of that match

    • xXwindsofchangeXx

I don’t think HBK has any desire to step back into the ring for just one match. If he still wanted to wrestle, I think he’d just wrestle full-time.

      • Devon

He said he was done. I hope he doesn’t pull a ric flair

    • YM5

      not if he wrestles Bryan

  • Casaer

what were the subtle teases? i don’t remember any on raw.

    • tt2000

Reigns looked annoyed and angry at Ambrose showing off his championship.

  • Travis Rogers

Honestly, The Shield shouldn’t break up. They all can dominate. They all the potential to be world champs

    • xXwindsofchangeXx

But that’s exactly why they should break up, isn’t it? If you keep them together in a stable too long, it stunts their development in terms of being singles performers.
