In 1982, Jerry Lawler brought wrestling to another audience by piledriving Andy Kaufman on the Late Night with David Letterman. The two men were friends, but remained separate as not break kayfabe and make the heat seem real.

“The thing with Andy Kaufman and I was the first time that wrestling did a cross over into the entertainment world,” said Lawler. “Sometimes I look back and say, I may not like all of this ‘sports entertainment’ but I may be partly responsible for it.”
