Konnan Reveals Advice HBK Gave To Rey Mysterio About Doing Jobs

AAA matchmaker Konnan and MLW President/former WWE Creative Executive Court Bauer once again joined Mister Saint Laurent on MLW Radio presented by BarberShopWindow.com, the official podcast of Major League Wrestling. Both spoke about Shawn Michaels’ disdain for losing.

“I remember that was a big thing with Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan. It was supposed to be three matches and it became one match, which was a cartoon match because of the sensitivity of who was going over,” said Bauer.

Konnan added, “Shawn told this to Rey Mysterio once and I couldn’t believe it and I told Rey Mysterio, please don’t follow that advice. He said that Shawn once told him, ‘Do you like doing jobs?’ and Rey said, ‘I don’t mind.’ Shawn said, ‘I don’t. I don’t like doing jobs and you shouldn’t either.’ I was thinking to myself, that’s the worst advice you can give to a young guy. You just never know when a wrestler is going to go to Vince when nobody is listening and say I’d rather not do this. I don’t want to put these guys over.”

oh please, true or not… hbk has put over many young guys in the course of his career… he put over benoit, angle, cena, kennedy, jobbed to triple h, jobbed to taker, jobbed to mysterio himself at the eddie guerrero show and the list goes on and on

It’s true. Shawn hated jobbing to talents. So did HHH. But sometime in 2005 I think he realized he isn’t the youngest anymore and that the WWE needs new stars. And to build new stars current ones have to job sometimes. But I feel like jobbing is the wrong word sometimes. Would you say Cena jobbed for Rock? Or CM Punk jobbed for Del Rio? Austin jobbed for McMahon? No, it was all part of storylines and there has to be one losing. And I bet my ass even after Shawn realized all that he hated jobbing but he atleast did job to talents that in his eyes deserved to beat him. And those guys are on top right now. So he didn’t do anything wrong.

stop living in the past…just like naidu said, hbk has put over ton of guys, he never even won the world championship after 2001 for gods sake. HBK is a living legend, no konnan or shane helms can ever compare to him so give these little interviews all you want cux in the end you come out looking like a complete douche. And just because you said so doesnt make it true, bunch of whiny drunkards.

I think Konnan completely misunderstood what Shawn was trying to say. To me, even though you’ve got to be willing to be booked anyway the company wants to book you, you shouldn’t be satisfied with being a jobber. Otherwise, well…you’ll always be a jobber.

    REY MYSTERRRRRRRRIO!!!

There was no misunderstanding. Konnan is absolutely correct in what he said, and it was common knowledge back in the day that Shawn hated jobbing for anyone other than his friends. Shawn was young and was simply trying to hold onto his spot at whatever the cost.

HOWEVER, and this is the most important part of the story, Shawn legitimately changed his views on “jobbing”. As he became the legend we all respect, he realized that losing does NOT have to be “jobbing”. Losing was a way to bring the next crop of stars into the light. It was a way to give back to the wrestling community as a whole. It was a way to truly earn respect for the right reasons.

Simply put, Shawn was young and dumb, but we all are at some point or another! However, he then grew up, did the right thing, and gave back to the wrestling community (older and up-and-comers alike) 100 times over!

HBK lays down for absolutely nobody!

What a egomaniac. This guy forfeited more belts in his prime than anyone in history. He was just jobbing more to make up for his jackazz behavior back when he was pill poppin.
