Kurt Angle Comments On CM Punk Fighting In The UFC

v
Kurt Angle recently spoke with Digital Spy to promote TNA’s upcoming European tour. During that interview, Angle commented on CM Punk transitioning from pro wrestling to MMA. Angle said that he thinks Punk is a beat-up 37-year-old and that there is a big difference between wrestling and fighting.

“I wouldn’t say he is a young 37, I think that he’s a beat-up 37, but he has been able to take the year off – that’s going to help,” Angle said. “I just don’t know how good he is. I know he’s training, but I don’t know how good he is as a fighter. He’s a great pro-wrestler, but fighting is a different story.”

Punk is expected to fight Mickey Gall, a 1-0 fighter from New Brunswick, N.J., at UFC 199.

What does Kurt Angle know about MMA training, and what the hell does it have to do with him anyway. Angle is more beat up than 10 CM Punks. I am not even a CM Punk mark by any stretch but really, he is giving it a shot because that is what he wants to do, it is taking it seriously and as a personal challenge. He isn’t out to prove anything to anyone but himself. He hasn’t been boasting he is going to breeze through and become a champion or anything, he is pretty humble, a bit like Kimbo Slice was. It is people on the internet that seem to think they are big headed douches. He may just do a Batista, have one fight for the sake of it and call it quits.

Punk said he’s not just going to have one fight and Batista sucked ???

While I agree angle probably shouldn’t have said what he did here but remember the man seriously considered MMA after leaving the WWE so I would guess he has some idea that he knows a little bit about the subject

      • Philip Hollett

He seriously considered is not the same as actually doing it though. I seriously considered doing a charity parachute jump once, doesn’t make me a Para.

        • Damian Starr

Well apart from an inappropriate analogy I would say he had enough knowledge about it to make a decision. I mean I’m sure on a pod cast he said the reason he didn’t take it up was purely a financial/ the sport having a far inferior media profile to what it has now point of view rather than he wouldn’t be able to hack it

CM Junk is gonna get his a** kicked in a matter of seconds. Mark my words.

    • MikeLo #NewNation

He will win mark my letters

      • Lisa

Lol. CM Junk doesn’t stand a chance against whomever he faces. I know Dana is gonna give him a jobber but CM Junk will still lose – probably by tapping out in the opening 20 seconds of the fight.

Wow! Are you on meds to be so hateful or are you naturally this angry at the world? Maybe smoke a joint or two before you have another thought. Punk is doing something with his life, so if he initially fails, so be it.

          • Lisa

            He’ll fail and QUIT.

Unless the opponent he gets is paid to “job” in order to “make him look strong”? Dana White is a smart businessman. He could milk a few more ppv sales out of a former WWE star by feeding him some nobodies to give him a credible streak.

      • Lisa

Thats exactly what I think he could do. But I really hope Dana White doesn’t go that route because it would be unprofessional.
I wanna see CM Junk getting beat like a government mule (sorry JR) inside the octagon.

Amazing how people rip on someone for following their dream. He dreamt of being the best “wrestler” and he proved it. No one in this generation held the title while beating the people he beat, including Cena. At least he has the guts to go after his dreams, win – lose – or draw. No one can ever take that away from him.

  • Mean Dean

I’m still in doubt this fight will ever happen, he wants ufc 200, but he most likely getting ufc 199, and we all know what Phil does, when he doesn’t get what he wants, he quits

    • Joseph Lisnow

I think he fights on an FX or FOX card. I think Dana White confirmed those plans- though anything can happen.

      • Mean Dean

I was just referring to how his attitude has been these past few years, it’s easy to fake a trainings injury right before a fight
