Major Change To The Royal Rumble PPV

WWE Network
Vince McMahon announced during Monday’s episode of RAW that Roman Reigns would be defending his WWE Title in the Royal Rumble match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event.

This is only the second time in history that the Rumble match is for the title. The last time that the WWE Title was on the line the Rumble match was back at the 1992 Royal Rumble PPV, which Ric Flair won.

Royal Rumble takes place on January 24, 2016, at Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. It will be the 29th event under the Royal Rumble chronology and the first WWE pay-per-view of 2016.

Down below is the updated card for the event:

30-Man Royal Rumble WWE Title Match: Roman Reigns (champion), Big Show, Curtis Axel, Ryback, Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho, TBA.

This event will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets.

Vince tries REALLY hard to put Reigns over. Didn’t he learn the last 2 years? Add 2013’s rumble to that mix. Roman will probably retain to a clusterfuck of a match and even if he loses he will still be in the main event. Stupid.

Roman reigns has been over now for months.

      • Rizzy

True but not with everyone yet. He still gets mixed reactions in some areas. I’ll admit he’s grown on me but this invincible booking will get tiresome real fast. It feels too much like Cena lol

        • ‘Drowen Hart #NewNation ??

With the way Roman has been booked the last couple of weeks, it’s been better than with how they have booked Cena the last couple of years lol.

          • Rizzy

True but all the guys he’s facing are Sheamus and whatnot since everyone is injured. They lined up everyone in front of Cena and he knocked them all down it’s only a matter of time before Roman wipes out the whole roster lol.

Let’s hope Reigns gets thrown out early.

Well, we have to wait and see what happens. BUT, if Roman is going to win that Rumble, entering number 1, and having in the match guys like Jericho, Lesnar or Bryan, you’re gonna screw up what you have accomplished this year with him. And I’m the first who want to see Roman leaving WM with the title, but there is no need to have him winning the Rumble this year. Like i said, lets see what happens.

I see 1 of 3 things possibly happening:

    1. Reigns wins and retains the title. People sigh.
    2. Cena wins becoming 18 time champion. People sigh. Gives Reigns/Reigns earns a title match at Mania and beats Cena for the title thus Cena passes the torch to Cena 2.0. People sigh
    3. Lesnar wins. Reigns earns Mania title shot. Same main event as last year so Reigns can get the win he never got. People sigh.

      lot of sighing.

    • Fat Owens Fat

Not “people” sighing, just the Indy smarks. :’D

    • Philip Hollett

HHH wins. Vince McMahon see’s Hunter as the end boss of WWE.

  • Mike

I like this. It is new and different. It’s not happened since 92 and then the wwe title was actually vacant. No one has ever defended in the royal rumble. I’m
Not sure reigns walks out champ now. Ive got a feeling the stage might be set for Cena to walk out champ. What a brilliant and unique way to tie flair. Of course Lesnar has a fanatastic shot too. Bray wyatt is a dark horse as well, of course I wouldn’t count Roman out.

  • Philip Hollett

Ok obvious HHH wins the Rumble and defends against Reigns at Mania.

  • josh

Could this be the settings for Cena vs. Cena 2.0 at Mania? Vince must be creaming his jeans at the thought.

  • Jacob’s Verbal Fist

Triple H will stay off television until returning at the number 27 spot, winning The Rumble, then passing the torch to Reigns at Mania.

Given that Lesnar is scheduled to appear at the Royal Rumble, common sense suggests that he will be in the Rumble itself since there simply isn’t anyone on the roster worth a singles match against him. What does this mean? Brock will be buried by Roman Reigns at the Rumble itself or as suggested below, at Wrestlemania in a retread match.

For the last few weeks, Roman has been pushed organically; allowing the crowd to assess his value. Suddenly, we’re looking at a repeat of last year’s Royal Rumble: creative shoving Roman Reigns down everyone’s throats.

Brock Lesnar has been, still is and forever will be, more over than Roman Reigns. Using a monstrous star like Lesnar, who has been billed as unstoppable for the last few years, as a jobber against Reigns will only turn the fans on Roman again.
