Randy Orton: Speculation Abounds About Failure To Pass Medical

It was being reported prior to Backlash that Randy Orton was not cleared to perform on the card. And, indeed, during the pay-per-view broadcast a backstage beatdown angle was worked in before the match which led to Orton having to forfeit.

There has been some speculation as to what the real reason was for him not being cleared. According to PWInsider, it was a concussion that prevented Orton from lacing up and laying it down in the ring. Apparently Orton had passed some of the Impact concussion tests but wasn’t passing enough of them to suffice the medicals.

However, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio were befuddled by the fact that Orton still went and delivered an RKO to Bray Wyatt in the ring. If it was truly concussion related, seems odd he would still go out and execute his finisher. So perhaps, they conjectured, it was actually because of the staples in his head. Maybe the cut suffered at the hands of Brock Lesnar had not healed enough and there was worry it might reopen during a match.

Bottom line is: There are no answers available but quite a bit of maybes, perhaps’ and possibilities.
