The Rock Debated Getting Into MMA After WWE

CM Punk and Brock Lesnar made the jump from WWE to UFC, but there’s another major star who almost followed in their steps. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson thought of giving MMA a shot 10 years ago.

“In my head, I felt like it was at least a two-year process for me to even get in the [cage], let alone the UFC,” said Johnson on the UFC Unfiltered podcast. “I wasn’t quite too sure what to do or what kind of people to put around me at the time, so the idea kind of fizzled out and I continued to stay on the path of movie making. Still a big fan and love the sport. But at one time, I did consider it.”

Instead, The Rock kept working in Hollywood, which has been a major success for him in recent years. On occasion, The Rock does appear for WWE and occasionally wrestles. He last appeared at WrestleMania 32 and won a spur of the moment match against Erick Rowan. It was the shortest match in WrestleMania history.

See The Rock in theaters now alongside Kevin Hart in Central Intelligence.
