Seth Rollins & Randy Orton Return Details

WWE Champion
Randy Orton and Seth Rollins will be returning this year from injury, though the WWE Champions won’t be back at the same time.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter says Seth Rollins will be back shortly. As for Orton, he’s looking at a late summer return.

Both wrestlers have been out since late fall and missed WrestleMania 32.

How injured is randy? I see alot of wrestlers returning before him but he was injured before them.

Kinda wondering myself. He’s been off for long periods repeatedly over the last few years. Got a nice, high paying downside guarantee, so maybe he just doesn’t care anymore.

I don’t know if it’s that so much, but he’s struggled with injuries – particularly his shoulders, which is what he hurt again – throughout his career. He’s 36 now – no spring chicken – and has been a guy on which WWE has leaned very heavily since his mid-20s. He might just be trying to make sure he’s all the way right before coming back as opposed to coming back too soon, having another issue with that shoulder, and ending up back on the shelf. An extra couple of months now may save him six to eight down the road.

There’s a report saying that he’s taking his recovery process slow and he’s not rushing it.

Feels like forever when Orton was last on TV but it was only back in October.

Sometimes Orton’s forced on us a little bit (not to the degree Cena has been), but when he’s on his game, healthy, and interested, he’s as good as anyone. I’m looking forward to seeing him mix it up with some of the new(er) blood when he gets back.

Interesting. I wonder what ‘soon’ means? Once I heard the nature of the injury, I had Rollins pegged for a return around Summerslam. So many debuts have happened since he was out. I’d love to see Rollins in the ring against KO (yeah, I know KO was already up when Rollins went down, but the two haven’t locked up yet), Zayn, or AJ.

Actually, the most obvious course of action at this point – maybe too obvious – would be for Reigns to go full heel and go up against Rollins. And anyone that questions whether Rollins can work as a face need look no further than his appearance at the Slammy Awards a few months ago. A long hiatus, particularly an injury layoff, makes a guy a sympathetic figure by default. Rollins is one of the gifted performers that can play either face or heel very well, but there’s probably a need for an established face to slot in right at the top of the card, especially if he beats Cena and/or Orton back to the ring.

We’ll see what happens. Rollins coming back at this point is almost like getting a new guy, and your matchup and feud options open up that much more. My question is, can Creative book that much returning star power (Cena won’t be far behind Rollins in returning, and may even be back first) in a way that doesn’t undercut the momentum of Styles, Zayn, and others that have seen their visibility increase as a result of the injuries?
