Steve Austin Wants WWE To Stop Writing Roman Reigns’ Promos

WWE Hall of Fame
Steve Austin was at WrestleMania 32 and heard the negative reaction Roman Reigns received from the 101,000 fans in attendance. The WWE Hall of Famer thinks if Reigns had less scripted promos, fans would treat him differently.

“He’s one of the nicest guys in the locker room and well-spoken and smart and doesn’t need anybody writing convoluted promos for him,” said Austin. “I just think many people consider him [to be] entitled because of his looks and that [has] actually worked against him, so the kid is in between a rock and a hard place.”

Getting booed by the crowd is nothing new for Reigns. He’s been facing backlash for about two years now from fans, but it doesn’t matter. Reigns is the current WWE Champion, having defeated Triple H and recently defending against AJ Styles.

Or if he just stopped giving promos altogether…lesnar, undertaker, kane, sting, goldberg, and big show all had great careers with rarely touching a mic

Agree…. But among those wrestler they actually can perform in the ring except Goldberg. Romain has no ring skill either. He is simply waste

      • TXRAWDOG11

Well I grew up watching Goldberg and almost of all of his matches were squash matches but it was still amazing to watch and must see TV. It was simple Fireworks, Spear, then Jackhammer and repeat.

I agree with austin. His promos feel so forced. It’s my only real problem with the guy. I wouldn’t mind him otherwise. Let him say his own stuff. If he ends up sounding like sid vicious or Scott steiner, so be it. Actually, that’d be an improvement.

    • TXRAWDOG11

Yeah they should let him be a little more out there (I watched the current roster give Macho Impressions and his was one of the best), or take the mic away from him, or give him a mouthpiece…but no more of im not a bad guy, im not a good guy, im the guy crap

Comment section debate: Would Reigns be better suited to having a manager speak for him, if one miraculously appeared? (a good manager is a rare commodity these days)

    • TXRAWDOG11

Yeah they could do a Samoan Stable maybe call it the Samoan Empire and have the USOS, Reigns, and then pull up Samoa Joe from NXT and let Joe be the mouthpiece of the group.

      • Joseph Lisnow

        rather see joe battle alone.

at least not until he loses the title and even then he doesn’t need one…I still don’t know why everyone is so against him.I said it here before.for his size? he is athletic as anyone around..he has the look and if he can talk like Austin thinks then let him

  • Mizanur Mowla

He maybe wwe champion but the fact remain he sucks and he doesn’t know how to wrestle. His wrestling skills wrost then MIZ.

    • Fat Owens Fat

      Oh that irony!!

    • Mikey Shango #DunDunDuuunnnnnn

Miz is good in the ring

  • Brett in MN

Well, remember, the man is also a THREE TIME WWE Champ at this point, because his other title reigns were so short. I’d rather not see him being a 10-time champ in just a couple of years because of this same booking.

But yes, less scripted promos would help most of their talent. Just look at New Day. They’re trusted to run their own show these days and it makes a huge difference.

You could give a mouthpiece, something along the same lines as lesnar. He doesn’t really need to talk at all. He may be better by doing his own promos but in my opinion he still lacks that charisma that is needed to move an audience.

One of the greatest cheers Roman had with a promo, was when he went out of script for once. It was long ago, when the crowd was chanting “Cena sucks”, and he said: When Roman Reigns is in the house, of course Cena sucks! He got a great reaction for that.
