Steve Austin: WWE’s Putting Lots Of Pressure On Roman Reigns

WWE Championship
Steve Austin sees similarity in the Roman Reigns – The Authority angle to his time against Vince McMahon. On The Ross Report, Jim Ross spoke to Austin about the current Reigns – Authority angle.

“It’s interesting because with so many guys out, the number one guy in the [professional wrestling] business, John Cena just going through shoulder surgery, and Seth Rollins being out, these are all people [Reigns] needs to be in the ring with,” said Austin. “By the way, I’m just saying, you’re putting a lot of weight on this guy’s back, a lot of pressure on this guy, and the spotlight is clearly on him.”

Austin said he was 99% sure he would be at WrestleMania 32. Cena is out with a shoulder injury and Rollins a torn ACL in his knee.

Reigns  defends his WWE Championship inside the Royal Rumble.

If Reigns gets injured WWE would be in a mess. With so many stars currently out nursing injuries, anything is possible at this point. But I’m a Reigns fan and I hope he stays healthy and has a good run – at least until John Cena returns.

    • The Shockmaster

So he’s no longer ‘Low-man Reigns’?

      • Lisa

I’ve never called him ‘Low-man Reigns’. I have always been a fan of his.

        • The Shockmaster

Oh wait that must have been that imposter Lisa :O

          • Lisa

Yes. I had an imposter who pretty much hated on all the wrestlers that I liked. That idiot also liked most of the wrestlers that I hate like CM Junk and Daniel Bryan.

          • siddus

Yes, because the way to distinguish yourself from someone using terrible nicknames like “Low-man Reigns” is to use ones like “CM Junk”

          • Lisa

To me he has always been CM Junk. An overrated, good-for-nothing idiot.

          • jeff

Hahaha, everyone is on to “Lisa”.

      • Mean Dean

She use to hate Cena too, I remember the cenanuff posts

It would actually probably be better for WWE’s LONG-TERM future if they lost Reigns to injury as well. It might finally wake up WWE to the fact that they would be better served having many guys that can carry the main event, instead of always just pushing 1 guy with the rest stuck in 50/50 booking.

wow get over yourself man. Wishing injury on an entertainer just because you don’t like him/her is really pathetic standards of fanboyism. They work to provide for their family, how would you like it if somebody hoped you didn’t get home from work someday just because your colleague didn’t like you?

      • siddus

Slow down there internet police. Read what I wrote again. At no point do I actually wish on him to get injured, or say anything at all to imply that i wanted him to get hurt. I merely pointed out that if they no longer had their chosen guy to be front and centre of everything then they might actually realise that relying on 1 guy is not the way forward. Just for you, I’ll re-word it but in a way that gives it the exact same meaning and point….

“It would actually probably be better for WWE’s LONG-TERM future if they lost Reigns to RETIRING ON THE POWERBALL JACKPOT as well. It might finally wake up WWE to the fact that they would be better served having many guys that can carry the main event, instead of always just pushing 1 guy with the rest stuck in 50/50 booking.”

They do have many guys on the main event. They cannot do anything if said guys are injury prone and spend most dates on their contracts at rehabs or their home. All those who won the title at Mania are out with injury. What Austin is pointing out here is that with the lack of credible talents in the top scenes, the champ cannot get into a realistic feud. When was the last time you saw a WHC feuding with mid-carders and jobbers because the guys who were supposed to put on a rivalry are all bedridden?
The WWE post its talent and budget cuts have pretty much toned down their roster which is why people wrestle on RAW and SD back to back. Up until one time, the two shows had their own top level stars who would occasionally cross into the other show. Now, they cannot afford to do it. And apart from Lesnar, there is no older star attraction to put over the young guys and make it stick after Kane lost his mask and Taker only works Manias.

I always see you defending Reigns like he’s your family member or something. You have the right to be a huge fan of his but I just don’t understand why. Reigns is really boring thus making him less talented and a worse choice for face of the company than John Cena.

          • Fat Owens Fat

I always see you defending The Rock like he’s your family too even though he no longer is part of the active wrestling roster. Are we even now?

Btw, I don’t defend Reigns because I’m a fan. The whole point of my post is to showcase the hypocrisy of the IWC’s Indy fangirls club who belittle old stars for “taking the spot that youngsters worked every day for” and then when a youngster is given the spot they are still whining as if only their Indy darlings need to be given that spot and nobody else will suffice.

Its basically a bunch of internet cry babies who want a fictional storyline to be written ONLY at their whims and fancies. Remember that time when the people gave Rocky a hard time because he was a “via satellite guy” / “part timer” / “old guy who’s taking new guy’s spot” etc etc just because he was going to have a Mania match?
This was also the same kind of people who were mocking Lesnar’s part time schedule and title reign and how the champ isn’t on Raw between ppvs. There was also the HHH buries young guys thing going.

Now suddenly, they don’t mind Lesnar/Rocky/HHH etc wrestling at Mania and they suddenly have stopped whining over old guys taking over new guy’s spots.

          • D.M.T

No we’re not exactly even because I haven’t defended The Rock in years. Last time I did was when it was announced that he would be on the cover of WWE 2K14 and that was 2+ years ago. But I agree, the IWC consists of hypocritical cry babies who think their indie darlings are wrestling gods. The Rock won’t wrestle at WM32 because he’s not allowed to so they won’t give him a hard time. So yeah I agree with you on that but Reigns is not a good choice for face of the company, he’s boring and he’s the reason why I didn’t watch RAW in weeks until it was announced that Reigns will defend the title in the Rumble match.
