Sting Talks WWE Owning Footage of His Career, Match with Undertaker, More

The Phoenix New Times is featuring a new interview with Sting. Here are some highlights.

Differences between TNA and WWE: “I have not really watched their product for some time now, occasionally I’ll flip though and I’ll see little bits and pieces here and there, but I really don’t know what’s going on up there. And for 27 years I’ve been doing this now, and I have never — hardly ever — watched our product. Watched anything that I’ve ever done. So I’m more of a hands-on guy while I’m there in the thick of it and it’s happening. But watching it happen on TV after it’s already been done? You know, I just never have done that.

“I’m glad that the storylines are what they are now…eh, I don’t agree with everything happening, but, again, whatever is put before me, I will always just try to enhance or tweak or make changes that I think will make it better for everybody. And I’m not just talking about for myself, I’m talking about for everybody.”

Who he’d like to make into a big star: “There’s some great talents here. Magnus is somebody who I’m watching and going, “Man, there’s definitely that could be done with him.” He just needs to find his niche. There are few others that I’m interested in working with and I want to do that.”

If he’ll ever be inducted in WWE’s Hall of Fame: “Well, I know every year there seems to be talk of it. There’s rumors that always fly. It was all over the Internet pretty big last year or the year before. So, I don’t know, especially now that I will be inducted into the TNA Hall of Fame. They may just turn the page at that point. I have no idea.”

WWE owning footage of his career: “Yeah, that’s tough for me. It really is. I’ve been public about this over the years, although I don’t feel that way anymore. At that particular time [when WWE bought WCW] it was like the enemy came in and took all the women and children, raped and pillaged and whatever else happened. It was a hostile takeover. It was surreal. I could not believe it, you know? And when [WCW] ended it was a weird deal. There have been times over the years where I wanted to have some footage to use for other personal things in life and I don’t have it. Although I did call once and they were great. They gave me whatever I needed and it was nice.

“It was for religious purposes. I was giving testimony in churches and different places like that and I just wanted to have some footage. And, of course, as long as it was going to be used in that setting, they didn’t really mind.”

If he would ever join WWE: “Ahhh…It’s too tough of a question to answer because its not just what they would do. It would have to depend on what the dynamics of that particular time would be. What’s going on? What’s the context? For example, right here with TNA. What are my choices? You just never say never.”

Who he’d like to face outside of TNA: “Everybody knows, as far as non-TNA wrestlers, it would have to be Taker. Always wanted to have one real cool thing with Taker… The last time I spoke with him is when he was with WCW [when he was “Mean” Mark Callous]. Teddy Long was his manager and I actually worked with him. We worked a few matches.”

Sting is loyal to TNA, he will sink with the ship.

this ship is up and moving

Up HH and Bitchoff’s ass u mean. I guess the “dream” match will never take place. Just glad he and Taker(although 4times a year) r still around and pretty healthy. 2 of the greats.

  • Bane

Although I wonder what HHH would do if the match actually took place and he was relegated 2 being considered Taker’s 3rd best opponent in WM matches. The match being better then expected and possibly surpassing what Shawn and Taker did. I know the crowd reaction would b crazy. Make it happen Vince, ur already throwing money away on ur dumb wife and her hopeless, pathetic political campaign. Plus, this match, story could work within this PG era, and u would b making extra dough.

This is the main reason why i hate WWE fan boys, You have been saying that TNA have been sinking since the start of 2010 and it is nearly three years later.
You can’t keep saying that TNA are sinking and looking like jealous children who want TNBA to sink, get over yourself and stop hating because TNA product at the moment is better than your dwindling product where your number one is a broken 35 year old HJORT wearing fag who will be the first person to wrestle (and win) crippled.
F#ck off fan boys and eat sh!t

^^Admire your passion for TNA Shaman but what’s a “HJORT”?

TNA MARKS: TNA is and has been a sinking ship. A sinking ship is a promotion which isn’t making money. It’s like WCW in the early days. In the late 80s/early 90s, Ted KNEW he was losing money, but he had plenty and didn’t care. As soon as it was in AOLs hands, they pulled the plug because unlike Ted, they don’t give a damn about wrestling if it’s not lining their pockets.

Same thing with TNA and the Carter family. TNA pulls the same ratings that ECW on TNN did, except they have to pay far higher production costs, especially now that it’s live, and ECW never had to pay fat contracts for names like Hogan and Sting. If Paul Heyman had Carter family money, ECW would still be going. And if Dixie had to start almost from scratch like Paul did, TNA would have died a few years ago.

TNA just did a live show that 400 (!) people attended! Four HUNDRED people! RoH does better! And you clowns think that TNA is doing better?

You idiots think that just because the show may have SOME quality content, and at times that week’s iMPACT may be better than that week’s RAW, that means TNA is making progress. Not at all. When most people hear “wrestling” they think “oh, like those WWE guys? like John Cena or Hulk Hogan?” They don’t say “oh like those TNA guys?”. They think “TNA?!?! Hulk Hogan is still on TV? When did this happen?!”

TNA is an INDY that happens to have a TV deal and a lot of money. THAT’S IT. SINK-ING-SHIP!

I don’t hate TNA, nor am I a WWE fanboy…I’m something that is rare in the IWC- an objective realist. TNA is as fucked as fucked can be. I guarantee you if Spike pulled the plug, they’d have 3 months to find a TV deal or they’d be done. They NEED Dixie’s wallet for survival. 10 years is plenty of time to have raised brand awareness and become a competitor. Think about WCW…in exactly 10 years, WCW was actually ahead of WWE, pulling monster ratings. So TNA fans, stop making excuses. They’re all bullshit. TNA is a sinking ship. It will last however long Dixie’s wallet will allow it to, and then die. There is NO WAY they are making profit. Hell, I’d be surprised if they break even!

  • Anonymous Raw GM

IF TNa wasnt a sinking ship explain to me why Dixie took a huge loan from Panda Energy in the last two years you idiots!

  • The_Shaman

No need to use name calling- lowest form of intelligence, and considering that panada energy pretty much own TNA i wouldn’t see it as a loan.

i would go on record and say if TNA were “indy” then it is the greatest “indy” fed ever because at the moment they broadcast to over 15 countries including some that haven’t seen wrestling on TV in ages, I would go as far as to say that they funded a new promotion in India and are currently beating WWE in England and other countries.
because they have low ratings in America they must be “sinking” i would really like TNA to leave american and move to a different country because you American fans are so clueless to what good wrestling is, all you do is complain about everything TNA do and hate on it instead of sitting back and saying ‘it’s not great but it is better than the alternative”.
i have no delusion about how TNA is and what they are but i would rather spend my money on TNAthen give it to a company that treats it fans as morons and keep given us a worse product than a company with much less money, And if more people watch their product the longer they can stay around and maybe in another 5 years they can brake that stigma called WWE “fucking wrestling since 2001”

  • Anonymous Raw GM

errrr.. WWE is still numero uno in India. Nobody cares about TNA there. Why do you think WWE still has Khali and Mahal on their roster?

  • The_Shaman

you jump all the points you can’t say are crap and talk like WWE is still number one because they have a killer and an indian in their company so when WWE bring in a chinese wrestler they will be the number one company in Asia, Their lack of relavance in the world is only double by finding out they struck a deal with the worst wrestling company in japan(AJPW).
Shows what WWE know about other wrestling company, they only know by hiring guys who steal information then sell it to them for when they get found out, they blame it on the employee.
WWE are the biggest bunch of fucking idiots that it takes vinny mac to realise they are going about it wrong and when trippers get the company it will be the end.
thank you Linda McMahon and your deluded dream to be a politician.
