What Did Austin & Jericho Think of Heyman’s Heart Attack?, Striker Disses Heyman, More

- The talk about Paul Heyman and CM Punk mocking Jerry Lawler’s heart attack on RAW continues on Twitter with several wrestlers weighing in such as Steve Austin and Chris Jericho. The Baltimore Sun’s Arda Ocal spoke with some Superstars and got their reactions:

Steve Austin: “I believe in pushing the envelope in an aggressive fashion. But when a guy damn near dies at ringside, let it go. You look at all the contributions Jerry Lawler has made in this business: from a work standpoint, a promo standpoint and then as a broadcaster. I think that’s pushing the envelope in the wrong direction. There’s better ways to go get real heat than that.”

Chris Jericho: “I think it was pretty obvious, don’t you? I kind of expected it. Punk’s promo was awesome. It’s wrestling so you knew it would end up as an angle sooner or later. I got the same complaints when I did the alcoholic angle (earlier this year with CM Punk). It would be like being mad at “Breaking Bad” because the dad was a drug addict or something. It’s just a TV show, after all.”

Lance Storm: “Thought it was poor. Both he and Punk are capable to get real heat, no need to sink so low. Also thought it was out of character for Punk so it hurt. Punk is about Best in World and himself. Why bother joking about heart attack it goes nowhere. Interuption was okay and in character. Fake heart attack was cheap and pointless.”

WWE’s Matt Striker wrote the following on Twitter:

“Watching Paul Heyman makes me feel like I need hand sanitizer”

Heyman replied:

“I think @Matt_Striker’s comment about me is low brow, uncalled for and insensitive. MY FEELINGS ARE HURT!!! cc: @CMPunk”

  • Chelsii.

How dare you talk to Paul Heyman like that Matt Striker. Shame on you.

  • http://wrestlingvengeance Jessica

    CM Punk sucks

  • Opie

I totally agree with Jericho’s comment

  • Opie

Also I think @Jessica is just another Hoeski

Matt Striker’s tweet was kayfabe, Heyman’s response made it obvious. Good or bad, the Punk/Heyman angle gave a shot in the arm to the whole company in pushing the envelope and getting everyone talking. Jericho made a good point with the alcohol angle in that it was bashed upon early on, but it all had an endgame of making the feud more personal, which is good business. Especially when the blowoff was an amazing Extreme Rules match. With Punk and Heyman, and Lawler: the heels get more over, which can be argued as cheap, but consider Punk being so beloved even as a heel, it’s obvious they try to push him into a heel. Can’t blame them. Lawler was mocked, but let’s not forget that Mick Foley’s part in the segment put Lawler back over.

Everyone looked at the perceived “bad,” as in Punk and Heyman’s act, yet nobody noticed the counterpoint. Just shows that bad news travels fastest.

Steve Austin said it all & said it best. That wasn’t an Attitude Era-style of pushing the envelope. It was just plain sick. As for Paul Heyman he just proved he’s no genius; he’s just an asshole riding someone else’s coattails. I don’t usually agree with Lance Storm but he got it right too. As for Jericho, well he’s entitled to his opinion.

  • Lisa

That was a terrible segment, the worst I’ve seen in a long time. Punk’s promo was just plain horrible and his (and Heyman’s) acting was ridiculous. I tried so hard not to throw up.

  • later marks

I thought it was hilarious, if Lawler was comfortable with it why should anyone else be bothered?

  • John

that was an amazing promo but the heart attack was pushing it but omg it gave him huge heat if jerry lawyler was ok with this angle then im ok with it .. idk why people like lisa dont understand hes suppose to be a badguy hes the best badguy wwe has has in a longwhile why do you think he’s had the title for nearly a year ? he’s an amazing wrestler with a Huge fanbase & people will hate just bc hes the best .. im sure you hated edge too lisa bc he was just as big a heel as cm punk is now BUT WAIT he was last seen a face so lisa automatically likes him now

  • Lisa

John, what an idiot you are. You really think I hate/like wrestlers because they are heel/face? A few days ago I branded Mark Black “the most stupid person on this site” but I think there is now another contender for the title. What a foolish piece of trash.

  • Rg41982

Like y2j said its a tv show. There has been a lot worse things then that on tv. Wwe and grand theft auto gets the worse reps. I’m sure Jerry didn’t mind and don’t forget they don’t write the stuff they do what there told all of them. Rem boss man and bigshows fathers casket? Y’all 2 soft for the attitude era. Because it was crazy back the.

  • Joseph

I agree with Lance Storm. But cannot blame Punk or Heyman. It was probably the writer’s and Vince’s idea.

  • Opie

A lot of people say this CM Punk, Paul Heyman, Jerry Lawler Heart Attack segment was Distasteful, but dosen’t anybody remember the Katie Vick storyline?

  • rob

Is Chelsii the only female on this sight that isn’t a fucking dumb mark cunt?

  • Brody Lawrence

PSSHH!! Thumbs down me all you want to idiots but I agree with Steve Austin; the biggest star in wrestling history and the patron saint of the Attitude Era that you all pretend to respect. He thought it sucked and so do I. Jerry Lawler being a good company man by reluctantly approving it and CM Punk playing his character is beside the point. Mocking someone who almost dies on the air shows what a low life Vince Mcmahon has become. That wasn’t attitude, that was obscene. I agree with Steve Austin so I wipe my ass with all your mealy-mouth opinions approving of that travesty.
@Rg41982 Big Show’s father didn’t really die and Boss Man didn’t crash a real funeral. Learn the difference.

  • John

Lisa woulda cried herself to sleep in the attitude era OMG JOHN CENA LOST 2 TIMES IN A ROW !!!

  • John

& lol “the most stupid” you mean stupidest lisa ?

  • Lisa

Rob, so all the females on this site (except Chelsii) are “fucking dumb mark cunts” because they aren’t CM Punk ass-kissers? Get a life, you idiot.

  • Lisa

John, shut the fuck up you fool.

  • Mark Black

Lol lisa you’re a funny bitch. Me the stupidest? Look in the mirror cunt. A dumb blonde has more brains then you.

  • Lisa

John, if you ever attended an English Grammar class, you should know that both “most stupid” and “stupidest” are grammatically correct. However, “most stupid” is the most recommended of the two. Go back to school, idiot. Mark Black, go fuck yourself.

  • carol

    First of all…..STOP SWEARING!!!
I didn’t care for that cruel segment at all. Although Jerry was agreeing to do it, it was morally WRONG! Did they make fun of when Owen hart died, no. Did they make fun of when Eddie Guerrero died, no. Although it was a good angle to make CM Punk more of a heel….IT WAS STILL WRONG, WHAT WERE THE WRITERS THINKING!!!!!

  • brandon

How could you say anything bad about CM Punk???

  • Chelsii.

Carol, pretty sure Randy Orton said Eddie was in Hell. That’s exploitation, if you have a problem with this segment – don’t be involved in Professional Wrestling.

  • Hawkins

i thought it was fucked up and funny at same time!! and c’mon…really…people were offended? well then they did their jobs! lol and hell it was probably Kings idea to begin with…and did you hear him through the whole show? he kept ribbing himself…which were pretty funny too…

    lol Trolol

  • Mayhem7

I didn’t really mind the segment with Punk and Heyman, what do you expect, they’re being packaged as heels. The thing I didn’t like is the way they’re pushing Ryback. That’s what this all leads to in the end, bigger cheers for Ryback, bigger boos for punk. Anytime ryback attacks punk, people love it. If Ryback is going to be the face of the WWE for years to come, I’m done with it. Ryback is boring to watch, I’d rather watch Cena, only because he is kind of funny. Ryback has ZERO appeal. Point is, this is all to get more Ryback fans. And punk vs. the rock would be a sweet ass match.
