WWE PG Paying Off, News on Cena’s Return, WWE Tag Team Plans

– The current plan is for John Cena to return to WWE TV for the October 28th RAW, the night after Hell In a Cell. WWE wants his first appearance back to be on the pay-per-view as opposed to putting him on the go-home show to build his World Heavyweight Title match against Alberto Del Rio.

– In 2008, WWE’s total revenue from corporate sponsorships was $7.4 million. Now, after 5 years of pushing their PG product publicly and promising sponsors that there would be no more risque TV, the number is expected to hit $20 million this year.

– Triple H has once again sent the directive to re-focus on the WWE tag team division. The plan as he laid it out was to first get some teams ready in NXT to bring to the main roster, as well as take some talented guys on the main roster who officials recognize are underutilized and try and get them going as a tag team. Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel are one example of a new team we may see here soon.

Talk is cheap, Trips. You’ve been saying the same thing for the past 2 years. Let’s see it happen.

      • Tommy Colosi

wasn’t that like for 2 months before Kidd got hurt?

        • Maddox

They were like WWE’s MCMG and they were getting quite popular before Kidd got injured

          • Tommy Colosi

I liked em, international airstike right?

          • Maddox

            Yea, They were amazing

So wait. For all of this PG programming, they’ve only raked in $7.4MM this year? Despite partnerships with Capri Sun, Fruity Pebbles, Nothing But Nets, B.A. Starr, GLAAD, K-Mart, Totinos…(I could go on for days)

Are you freaking blind? Read that part of the article once more, this time with your eyes wide open.

      • Jay Ess

Ah, I completely missed that. I knew something was wrong with there.

But with the heavyweight organizations that they partner with, I thought that the $20MM that they’re taking in this year would be a bit higher. Not saying that $20MM is anything to scoff at, but as a multi-billion dollar company with assets valued at over $3B, I figured that the complete, all-encompassing shift that they made in programming (and even language as another news article points out) would have brought some more to the table.

Still, that $20MM would be a significant addition to their profit numbers, operating income, and overall revenue numbers. Just thought that for all the effort they’ve put into making things PG, those figures would have been in the 30’s or 40’s at least.

    • Tyler Drummond

No, in 2008 they made $7.4M from sponsorships and now they expect it to be nearly tripled since they have been pushing a PG product.
