SummerSlam was supposed to be Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship. SmackDown would then get the Universal Championship with AJ Styles being the title holder. As mentioned earlier, Finn Balor was set to wrestle Chris Jericho in a standard singles match. Between the WWE Draft and Roman Reigns getting suspended a few weeks earlier, plans were drastically changed.
The report continues how Reigns and Rollins weren’t expected to be in the main title picture for several months. Now, both are in the fatal-four way match next week on RAW to crown a new Universal Champion due to Balor’s injury.
No word on where Dean Ambrose would fit into the storylines if plans didn’t change.
